We tried this place a week after its grand-reopening. The overly-generous five-star reviews here aren't doing this place a favor, as its long-term survival will depend on things getting a whole lot better than they are right now. (Reviews prior to late April 2014 are for the prior establishment, under different ownership and management.) I had not been into the Tavern under its prior ownership, so was seeing the interior for the first time. It is nicely done. The chairs at the tables and bar are a nice deep red, appear to be new or very nearly so, and are comfortable. The bar is fairly long, although table seating (for us with kids) is fairly limited. The place was not very crowded when we arrived with one kid, but we still had trouble finding a table that would accommodate three of us - and ended up having to borrow a chair from another table. The table was too small for three of us and our food, but we worked around it. If you come here with more than a couple, and can't sit at the bar, you may have trouble finding a good place to sit. Plenty of TVs, with a couple of different events on and viewable from anywhere. No music at first, thought at one point during our meal some music came on. Once we sat down, we were greeted only very cursorily, and the waitress did not return for ten minutes or so to take a drink order. It was so long that I wondered if we were supposed to order at the bar - not a good first impression of the service. During this time, we didn't even have menus to peruse - and those weren't brought until after we finally placed drink orders. Our first round of drinks was a bloody mary for me and a mai tai for my wife. These took forever - I'm guessing close to fifteen minutes. The bloody mary was fine, not great. The mai tai was a bright red, definitely not what it should look like, but reportedly tasted okay. The food we ordered (when the waitress finally returned) came out fairly promptly. I ordered the Cherry Valley burger, which according to the menu comes with lettuce, tomato, etc. - so I was surprised when my burger came out plain: Just a burger patty with cheese on a bun. The patty itself was pretty tasty, the bun mediocre. Regular fries were tasty, as were the truffle fries my wife ordered. They couldn't make the sandwich she originally ordered, but she seemed to enjoy the second choice she ordered, as did our kid her grilled cheese. The waitress who initially took our orders essentially disappeared, not that she was every very "present". Although she never seemed all that busy, another server stepped in, and brought our second round of drinks quickly - mine the Triple Horn Imperial IPA, and another mai tai for my wife. The second mai tai looked and tasted nothing like the first - a red flag regarding the bar's quality and consistency. In summary, it is clear that from the service, to prep of drinks at the bar, to the kitchen getting orders right and being able to make the things on the menu, things need a lot of work here. We'll return again in a few weeks, when hopefully some of these kinks are worked out. We very much would like a rival to Pete's here in the Valley, but right now the Duvall Tavern isn't there. read more

Been back a few times over the past few months to try and give them a fair shot. They seem to be settling in to what they're going to be doing it looks like. The service seems to be much improved. That was the most noticeable change. I give them props there. The food remains the weak point. It just isn't good. While the other establishments in town like Duvall Grill and The Grange have much more thoughtfully crafted menus and higher quality ingredients, the Tavern is just a swing and a miss. I get they're not trying to be as "high end" as the other places, but they're not pulling off that "dive bar" greasy goodness either. It's like a lower quality, more bland version of what's being done elsewhere in town. The beer selection has gotten even worse, which I didn't think was possible. I get that IPA is what all the cool kids drink these days, but devoting 4 of your limited taps to IPA is a bit excessive. With all the great beers being made around here, can't we get at least ONE other style option? And no, Mack and Jacks doesn't count. Duvall Springs beer continues to be as horrible as ever, and still continues to occupy tap real estate. The best thing they have on tap is the root beer. All said: It's worth going if you don't expect a superb meal. But the place just seems to not know if it wants to be a dive bar, family restaurant, or bar and grill. It's an odd mix of the three types of places, and isn't pulling either off particularly well. Pick one, and own it, I say. read more

You have to be kidding me. If I could go lower on the stars, I would. Standard pub fare, maybe even a bit subpar, but forgivable, when you have a couple drinks. So I have those two drinks. Two double bloody marys. Total charge? $61 fricken dollars. For a burger, onion rings, and two double bloody marys that were NOT even top shelf. Spoke to the waitress, who was apparently the "manager" and I consider myself to be a fair human being, so sucked it up and even tipped her $10 because she did her job, but I will never, never, never darken their door again. I recommend the Duvall Grill and Tap Room, for no reason other than I'll walk out of there having paid maybe half of that for the same meal. I hope they go out of business. read more

I visited the Duvall Tavern this Wednesday night for beers and dinner. We scored a table on the patio, and as it was a lovely summer evening (and trivia night) the place was thronged with people. Let me state up front that the atmosphere on this patio (a happy crowd, streams of late afternoon sunshine, strings of Edison lights) is what earns Duvall Tavern two stars. I understand from other reviewers that this patio is newly expanded and improved, so it may also bear some responsibility for the negatives about the place too. After finding our table, we waited ten minutes or so for menus, but that was ok because in the meantime we had discovered it was trivia night, and so were distracted with the task of coming up with a suitably hilarious team name. That done, and menus in hand, we studied the beer list keenly. I'm not sure if it's to avoid the cost of printing a fresh beer list every few days, or if they are changing tons of kegs, or if there is some other reason beyond my imagining, but the "beer list" appears to be a list of breweries with whom the proprietors occasionally do a little business. Not beers, not styles, literally just a list of brewery names. When our waitress arrived, we asked about this and were told "oh, that's super out of date." She also couldn't tell us what was on tap beyond 2-3 options she knew "off the top of her head." We chose doors 2 and three, and hoped something resembling beer would arrive at our table. Alas, ten minutes later when my beer arrived, it was riding solo on the tray. Apparently in the interim one of the kegs had blown and been replaced with Bud Light. My companions, wishing to drink beer (and not lukewarm toilet water) declined the offer of Bud Light to replace the porters they had ordered, and asked what else on tap was dark. This was met with a frown, and our server retreated to the bar with a vague promise to return with "dark beer". With a small eternity to kill before the next visit of a staff person to our table, and our dinner order not yet taken, we set about devising a survival plan. It was becoming clear that it might be several days before we saw food, so best to prepare for the worst. Fortunately, we thought ourselves likely to survive a long-term marooning, given the plentiful supply of ants crawling over the patio railing and dropping (like mana from heaven) onto our table. Protein is important in a survival situation. Beers (or something resembling beers) in hand, we at long last were permitted to submit a food order. The menu is fairly typical of pub fare: Nothing exceptional, but pretty much covering the bases I want covered on a summer afternoon to accompany a delicious glass of... well.. A delicious glass of whatever this is. It goes without saying, our food took several years to arrive, and by the time it did, we were halfway through breaking down the table for firewood and every ant in greater King County was running for its life. But what did arrive was surprisingly creditable. The Washington State Burger, topped with caramelized apple, was delicious. Sweet potato fries were crispy, well seasoned, and thoroughly satisfying. The Pub Club was graced with bacon so thick one might believe it was cut from the pig as it was trying to escape, and a thoroughly creditable pesto (thus earning the third and final star). The nachos (topped with a sort of "fancy cheese sauce") were a failure and cannot be recommended, however I give the kitchen credit for attempting something different. Further service-related disasters ensued, alas, which marred the experience. I will spare the reader the full details, however suffice it to say that by the time we left at 6:00 or 7:00am the following morning (or so it seemed) our little party had been presented with several additional mystery beverages, had a confused experience with a bill that only marginally represented our order, and were considering the launch of of very own pest control company. In summary: If you find yourself in Duvall on a sunny summer's evening, thirsty and famished, consider the Duvall Tavern a viable option, but plan on a stop at the convenience store first to lay in supplies. It just might save your life. read more

I absolutely love this place! The food is great and very reasonably priced. The service is always friendly, and understandably it can be a bit slow when they are really busy, but we always have a great time when we are there. Very kid friendly during the day and very laid-back atmosphere. The drinks are delicious too and they always have great specials each week on their "fresh sheet" menu. read more

The owners may be WSU grads but there is no way they are graduates of the Hotel and Restaurant Management Administration program that WSU is famous for. We went there tonight which was admittedly a busy Friday evening compounded by good weather which had been forecasted for a week. The place was full but not packed. We order an appetizer, 2 entrees and a take-out entrée for our daughter at home. 75 minutes later our orders arrive, (kind of) the appetizer is late and served along with the entrees, my wife's French Dip sandwich is cold (the bread is warm but the meat is freezing) and they forget our take-out order. When the bill comes, or course they we're charged for everything even though I send the appetizer back and the take-out order is no-where to be seen. I mentioned it and they graciously offer to strike the appetizer and to-go order which is novel because we didn't have either. It's can be a fun place with decent food but either the kitchen is too small or the staff to slow to handle the restaurants' capacity. What's funny is that they have an expansion to double the patio space which is about to be completed so don't expect this to get any better as they expand to fulfill the greed of more seating. My advice? Avoid this place when even moderately busy if you want reasonable service times and good service. read more

When I approached this spot on motorcycle with my gal, we thought this is a great spot...And as far as location, it was. I promptly ordered a burger Hippie plate and soup. Well...I had 3 drinks, played some Ms. Pacman, listened to an artist on the deck and wondered where my food was. Unfortunately, literally took 50 minutes to get a burger and soup. The service was very good (TONY I THINK) ....don't get me wrong...our waiter was hustling and doing a fine job. HOWEVER....THE KITCHEN WAS THE BOTTLENECK and others were complaining too. The owners need to quit being so cheap and place a few more employees on the payroll. It's costing them business and good reviews. My burger was pretty good and so was the soup and natural frys. BUT....IT STILL TOOK FOREVER and the owners are to blame....this place is not sufficiently stafffed. read more

My wife and I have lived in Duvall for almost 15 years. We love the Duvall community and we always try to support our local businesses. This summer we were excited when we heard that the Duvall tavern was going to be redone. Like most Duvall residents, we went right after it opened. Our first experience since the remodel was great. Great food and great service. Unfortunately each subsequent visit has been progressively worse. Tonight, we went with another couple and our four year old. Our entrees came out in two waves, 30 minutes apart. The burgers we ordered were under cooked. The child burger we ordered was so spicy that our 4 year old couldn't eat it. We mentioned it to the waitress and she just shrugged it off. I would have expected her to offer to get him something else or take it off the check. Nope. Who makes a child's burger off the kid's menu spicy? We got a to-go burger for our teenage son who was at home and it was also under cooked and overly spiced. He ended up just throwing it in the garbage. Like all of our local businesses, we want Duvall tavern to be successful but they need to make some changes. I don't think we'll be back nor will the other couple who went with us. read more

Had dinner here the other night with my family. The service was friendly. There was plenty of seating outside, as it was a beautiful evening. The tables and chairs outside are red picnic tables and benches. It's cute because they have matching kid picnic tables right next to the big one. Perfect for my two kids. We ordered truffle fries which taste good but I wasn't impressed ( won't order them again). However their onions rings are amazing!! And the tots are pretty good as well. I got the Tavern Burger. I was warned by our waitress that it's really good but it would be spicy because of the jalapeño and some ingredient in the chipotle aioli. She was more specific but I can't remember. Anyways it was spicy but in the best way. I couldn't put the burger down it was so yummy. My husband got the Ruben, he enjoyed it and said he would get it again. Overall we loved our dinner and will be coming back. We didn't order root beer but our friends that did said that they charge by the glass. So sorry to do this...I go to the tavern roughly twice a month for an activity and the only thing I can eat is the tater tots. The "nachos" are not only not nachos, they've made me sick the two times I've eaten them. The grilled cheese is literally two slices of cheese on panini bread and is not worth the steep price. At least I've figured out how not to spend a small fortune on a meal there--I don't eat a meal there. The staff are very friendly and attentive. They're the reason I gave the tavern as many stars as I did. Were it not for them, I would have given one star. read more

Such a great place with an awesome location and atmosphere. ALL the staff are amazing! I am not sure what that "ginger" girl was complaining about lol. The patio is the perfect place to enjoy a beer on a sunny day. I also love how the inside is nice and open so you don't feel like you are shut up in some dark bar if you happen to go in during the day time. If you are looking for a tasty burger I suggest the Washington burger, it may be named after wsu but it is still delicious even to this huskey fan! I have to say, this place continues to improve in quality and service. I would say it's the best burger now in Duvall, among the 4 places to get a burger, and I would say it's on-par now with some of the better burger joints, like Tipsy, Teddy's, etc... I would highly recommend it. On a holiday Monday for MLK, ordered a few different burgers for the family and some fish and chips all for lunch. The burgers were still juicy and warm after bringing it home, the buns were lightly toasted and in a separate container so as not to get soft. Condiments were plentiful and also in separate containers. The patties were in a container with their vegetables and a bit separated from the fries it came with. The tater tots were perfectly crispy and so were the fish and chips. The sweet potato fries and the onion rings were also perfect. Icing on the cake is that everything was packaged in paper containers rather than the toxic Styrofoam. Perfectly cooked, prepared, and nothing missed during packaging. read more

Duvall tavern is what i would say is a "visual trap" because the outside and inside of the tavern is very visually appealing. It has the right vibe and feel of a tavern. Lots of cool decorations on the inside and this place has lots of potential.. if I was rating on interior design alone. The staff was very young, and not anything special. The menu is very small and limited. The drink list is primarily beers, mainly IPA's. I ordered a $10 margarita bc I wanted to splurge. 10$ margs might be normal for WA locals but that's a pricy ass margarita. The tequila was good but that bartender definitely doesn't know how to make a margarita- too limey. Then the food... so so so bad. I am gluten free so I always order my burgers with no bun-lettuce wrap. These people deadass laid my burger on top of some soggy SHREDDED iceberg lettuce. Like what. The actual burger patty was nothing special. The only good thing about my meal was the white cheddar cheese option for the burger. I can't express enough how regular and boring our burgers were. For 40 something bucks: 2 burgers 1 soda and 1 drink, NOT worth it at all. Go home and make your own burgers and margs and it would taste better and cost you waay less. Ate off the brunch menu - was really tasty and fresh. I was a bit worried about trying it out with it being a tavern but was happily suprised to find it well lit with super friendly staff. Duvall Tavern is a regular spot for my family and I. When we first moved here in 2000 it was a pretty rough biker bar, but after being bought by different owners it has been totally transformed. Kid-friendly until 9pm, and then it is a legitimate bar. The servers are very friendly, and the beer list is usually focused on local brews. Food is decent, and can take a while to get to your table, but that comes with the small town vibe. Wednesday Trivia Night is super fun as well! Great spot for Happy Hour, a dinner with family, or for a brew with friends. The staff is why I keep coming back. Karaoke on Saturdays is amazing with DJ Paul. Talk about someone that gets into his role as DJ. He knows every song that could be played and has a fantastic list to choose from. Every Saturday from 9-close (10-close if you want to avoid children). Danica, Braxton and Katie are always a treat. The food is very good for a tavern and the beer selection is ever rotating which makes it a love you won't get bored of. I would give 5 stars if they would add cheese balls on the menu. read more

Ok, so its been almost 2 years since our first, troubled visit. Our experience today was as different as night and day. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, clean tables, good smells, and quite a few busy tables. Our waitress, which was one of the best I've encountered in a decade, was on fire. She managed the entire place plus the bar without any issues or delays. The kitchen was knocking out the food super fast, and it was fresh and HOT! We decided to try two burgers and they were great. They were cooked to medium well and were super juicy. The buns were firm and whole grain and toasty too! The fries were good, but the tots were PERFECT! The selection of dressings and dips were house made and really spot on. We'll have no problems coming back to the Tavern and we actually look forward to trying moe of the items! This is our go-to eating spot in the summer thanks to the (always great) burgers and the amazing outdoor patio with live music on the weekends. My kids love the mac n cheese but they also dig in to the veggie and hummus plate. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is that they recently stopped listing a variety of wines on the menu ( it now just says 'red wine' or 'house wine') I asked the waitress about this and she said it's so they don't have to keep reprinting the menus but it's a weird thing to do in such a wine-centric area of the country. read more

Ok, seriously the CUTEST little place! We were coming back from an event out in Carnation, and the bright patio and warm weather were calling us. They even let our dog sit with us outside, which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered a beer sampler and the Turkey BLT, my husband had a beer and the Prime Rib Dib. The taste of the food is heavenly, very well prepared and full of flavor. The beer selection is unique, mostly local, but still delicious. The service was fast, friendly, and polite.
