I am a bigger guy. However, I really don't care about all the crazy fashion that crops up every season. I just want nice looking jeans, button down shirts, and 1/2 zip and hoodie sweatshirts to fit right. For awhile, some stores had good clothing for plus size people. Kohl's carried a couple brands that were stylish and fit well, but then they stopped carrying them only to re-introduce those same brands with ill-fitting plus size options. Marshall Field's had a few items which became Macy's, and they had fewer still. The Winston Box, a monthly subscription mail order service boasts a way to find great options for any plus size and truthfully, they never sent items that fit well. However, DXL (a.k.a. Destination XL) has always had options that work well with my body type. I'm a Polo fan and not a big fan or their house brand, Harbor Bay. With that being said, Harbor Bay's t-shirts and jackets are awesome and fit great. DXL always has new options and brings in new brands that offer nice options such as Vineyard Vines, Psycho Bunny, Robert Graham, and more. Lately, I love the Lucky Brand jeans as they fit so well, and recently purchased the softest, most comfortable Vineyard Vines hoodie (actually, wearing both the hoodie and jeans right now). Plus, DXL offers workout closes, casual clothes, dress clothes, suits, shoes, and accessories. Lastly, the Vernon Hills location (close to me) has such a wonderful staff. Over the years, their staff has changed, but they are very friendly and always offer to help you find what you're looking for or are happy to remains hands off and let you do your own shopping. And they remember you whether you frequent them often or your visits are limited to a few times a year. I hardly visit any other store and if they don't have something in their store, they are happy to reach out to other locations to help you find your size and color you desire. it was OK. the clerks were helpful, but it was pricy. the pricing style also was headed into Macey/Kohl's level of complexity, that is, of if you buy two of these get this other one at half price, but you can't mix sleeve length, but this is 15% off of marked up to $150.... I may be misguided, but I don't think you want to be compared to Kohl's. Or Shaw's. and the half-priced dress shirts I can only hope they brought in to sell full-priced shirts because they were laugh out loud funny. Like purple and black cross , really large squares, odd colors. it did a disservice to have them in the store. some one might buy them. Talbots and Brookes Brothers have a good name because you can buy anything the sell. Here, some clothes are dangerous like buying at target or walmart. I might go back. a bit meh, but I left with what I needed, but at at 150% of what I expected. read more

By far some of the WORST customer service I have experienced in the area. Tried to refuse a refund for a new still tagged belt. Still waiting on said refund, and am really regretting I didn't get some kind of paper work back to prove that one took place. Not to mention,He tried to NOT let me in the store because I had a toddler with me. Clamed they were restocking and didn't open at 10 like the sign says. He was incredibly rude when I first stepped into the store to buy a belt for my husband. But on my return he was a soulless monster. I understand you may not like kids but,damn! I do not recommend and will not return! Pretty sure I just got scammed outta 91 bucks for belt. read more

I've been going to this place for a while and getting tired of the poor service and lack of clothing selection available. Go inside and look for your size thinking they should have it and be greeted with friendly person but NO you get Mr. Grumpy more interested in his cell phone texting and hardly any clothing available. I go to JC Penny and get better help than at the Vernon Hills DXL store. If hard press and need to use that DXL gift card, just use it online and use the store as return place just in case or better yet give it to another person who doesn't mind poor service. read more

This place has some of the best costumer service I have ever seen. They carry men dress clothes to workout clothes. They have shoes and they will be more then happy to call others stores and have it shipped to the store for you. Sign up for coupons and they email them to you so you can save. read more

This is a new store and took the place of the Big & Tall just up the road. All I can say is WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT! Especially when it comes to the layout of the store and overall look and feel. They really raised the bar and are going top scale, although it does not seem to have caused the prices to increase. There seems to be a wider selection of clothing... at least more of it. The store is much more roomy enabling you to browse about without getting caught up on hangers. The dressing room area is very nice as are the bathrooms. I for one am really glad to see these improvement! read more

Two sales clerks working. First sales clerk a young man I told I didnt want to spend more than 50 dollars on a dress shirt, he suddenly became uninterested and told me he was going on his break and the other sales clerk Jamie would help me. Well , when I told Jamie my budget she said we dont have much and literally grabbed four shirts and tossed them on the display. She told me she would be right back, went to help another customer and never came back to help me. I make a blue collar wage and I guess this store is for better people with more money. At least that's how the two sales clerks made feel . My eight year old daughter even asked me why the lady was being mean. This place does have very nice clothes a little pricey but good stuff . I did buy a Bears Jersey with no assistance from the two clerks. It was 35.00. Not bad. I ended up going to JC Penney were the sales clerk there was excellent. He picked shirts out for me. Helped me match a couple ties. I wish I could remember his name. Well, tired of blabbering here. Just letting you know to probably try another DXL store . What GREAT costumer service!!!! My boyfriend and I came here searching for a gift for his dad for Christmas - upon entering we were greeted by 3 very friendly employees within our first 10 minutes in the store. Everyone was super personable and told us their names in case we needed help. When we did need help, we were able to literally turn around and find help. We were in search of a screen printed tee we found in the booklet that they didn't have in the store. We were brought to the front of the store while she called around different stores to get the size we needed shipped to our store. Also, while we waited someone else brought us up those miniature water bottles for while we waited. I wish I remembered everybody's name but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew - GREAT, nice, hardworking people work here who deserve recognition. I would *highly* recommend shopping here! I had to do some last minute shopping for my wedding. I was greeted immediately when I walked in by Alexis. Alexis was probably one of the most professional and friendly people I've ever met in my life. He was so helpful and informative without coming off as pushy. He made a nerve wrecking time for me a easier and simple experience. I sincerely appreciated how well he treated my wife and I. I am in sales and I always appreciate a great salesman. Someone who actually sells you something by showing you the benefits of the product and how the product will help me. The cherry on top was when he offered to press my shirt for me so that I wouldn't have to. I've spent A LOT of money at Casual Male/Destination XL stores over the last 6-7 years and I've never encountered a individual quite like Alexis and I will be giving him my business going forward. read more

If you are seeking a career as a sale consultant, not to consider working for this company. They pay you $9.00 per hour. Then you MUST pass a role playing oral role play with the the store manager and then be pass off to the regional manager. All you do is greet customers and fold clothes to the stores specs. They are grossly understaffed and you will be running cleaning up after the guests. The staff is nice to work with. If you see ads that say $13 - $14 per hour. (Indeed ads) This is misleading. It's your hourly. They base this dollar amount of your average hourly that includes commission, assuming that you qualify to earn commissions. read more

I was welcomed with a nice greeting upon arrival as normal. Salespeople around but nothing pushy. I selected a pair of Harbor Bay Jeans and Khakis, there normal store deal $55 each or buy 2 and pay 44.99 each. I had my standard email coupon save $20 on purchase of $75 plus my Holiday gift coupon.(which i was once told was like a gift card) I was told i could not use both togetter so i used my holiday coupon on the first pair and was charged $55 minius the holiday card. Then the seconded pair again for $55 and used my email coupon for $20 off if i spend $75. So in all i was charged $55 or two pairs of pants that should of been $44.99 each. I did use the holiday coupon of$20 and yet the 2nd charge was only for $55 but still received the $20 off as if i had $75 purchases. But if i got the both pairs for 44.99 plus the 20 off for $75 purchase i would of still had the holiday coupon to use on another purchase. I feel i paid $55 for 44.99 pants and used $40 worth of coupons to save $20. The place was not that busy but only one clerk at register while 3 other salespeople where chatting and folding shirts. I feel that the clerk was trying to help but was confused and the rest of the staff was just as confused about nothing. read more
