But I have to say that Lou Edwards has created what now stands as the most impressive piece I've ever commissioned. This was a very significant project for me: I wanted a special gift for my husband, Jim, to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Jim's special motif is armadillos... he collects them, and he likes to wear silver armadillo pins on his jeans jacket. When we met almost 25 years ago, Jim had an armadillo-ouroboros tattoo on his shoulder... a tattoo he designed himself. And twenty years ago, for our wedding, I'd had a tiny white-gold armadillo lapel pin created for him. So for our 20-year anniversary, I had the idea of commissioning a handcrafted silver and gold pin based on Jim's tattoo. I approached Lou with this project idea, and a couple months later, he turned it into a beautiful reality. Lou somehow managed to make it not only exactly like what I asked for, but even better. He made it even more beautiful and three-dimensional than what I'd had in mind. I adore the 3D details of the little Norse-Viking-ship style head of the armadillo, with the matte gold squiggle and ruby eye, and adorable teeth! The entire thing is so beautiful and perfect that I am at a loss for words. And my husband Jim really loves it, which is the most important thing. I also want to point out that not only is the outcome amazing, but the process of having it created was great, as well. Duvall Jewelers provided me with several updates and previews of how things were going, and was able to get my concerns addressed as the project went along. I got the sense that this was a labor of love for Lou. I appreciate the care and enthusiasm he brought to this project. I love supporting other artists. And if I ever have another custom jewelry project, Lou Edwards will be my first choice.

She gave us several options on what we could do (I.e find a different pair that matched perfectly at a different size or wait for new inventory, etc). And in the end, we upgraded to a new set that are slightly bigger but still the color I love. She was very generous price matching and discounting for the upgrade. Holly was great the whole time we were there. We talked a bit while she fitted them perfectly, and she is very warm, professional, and friendly. Also, they just moved to a larger store and it is very nice (same shopping center; just a few floors up). There is a sitting area and tea for anyone accompanying you and not perusing. The shopping center itself has validated parking. I really adore this store and encourage people to check it out. I drive from Ballard and will continue to drive over because I love their jewelry and their exceptional level of customer service.

Tara outlined the process -- all steps were clear and transparent and she wanted permission at the end of each step before moving to the next. She, then, issued insurance to me to cover the value as she holds the pieces to take to the liquidator/refinery. The stones on my mother's jewelry had no value and so Tara returned all those (wow!). They charged a large amount to just polish my ring and tighten a prong, without even telling me ahead of time. It is one thing to charge for severly mishandled jewelry, but for a polish and a prong check, it is obsurd. I regret getting my ring made there because now I will have to go to another place to polish and check my prongs because this place didn't offer me a warranty that any jeweler offers when you purchase a wedding ring. This store has much higher prices so they should be offering better customer service, otherwise what's the point of paying more for bad service.
