Located on a former farm, the main kitchen is in a separate building out back; the original farmhouse serves as the seating area, with seating both outdoors and indoors. Since I was solo, I chose outside on the patio--flies ended up being a bit of a nuisance though, and I regretted not choosing to sit indoors instead. Fortunately, a fly fan was later provided, and that helped considerably. My service was very good. The hostess, waiters and servers courteous, friendly and polite all. For starters, I ordered guacamole and a glass of Chardonnay--and for my entree, the Adobo Marinated Chicken. I must say here, it was unexpectedly and likely the very best I think I've ever had--absolutely outstanding taste and texture, marinated and seasoned to perfection. I was also impressed that the chef personally greeted and checked with each table's guests. I was very pleased with my service, wait time, and overall experience, in spite of the flies outside. After my dinner, I was invited to take a little tour inside. I discovered it to be much larger inside than it appears from outside. Next time, I'll sit indoors--I'll definitely be back.

Mac and cheese along with house made potato salad were great as well. No complaints on the turkey or brisket I tried. I'll be back next time I pass through!

I had to apologize for being wrong. For bringing a person whose opinions I value to a mediocre establishment. My ego and my credentials took a hit on this one. It's not that it's the worst place in the world, I mean it's not too far removed from that, it's that I was excited and had my date excited. The old bbq place had fall off the bone, perfectly seasoned meats, homemade pickles, and street corn. I guess I should've done my research. Let's get this quickly out of the way. The few positives. It's not too bad for the price, and the turkey was actually darn good...that's where it ends. The brisket lacked any character or depth. That salty, pepper bark was missing. I will leave it at that. I thought it was impossible to overcook green beans, they managed to prove me wrong. The jalapeño sausage had the consistency of straight from the can spam and lacked any kick. Then the most perplexing item we had. The pork belly. It was confusing. It didn't know what it wanted to be. The best pork belly at bbq place I've ever had, they let me go to the back. They smoke it, then just before it hits that fall apart temperature, the grill the skin side quickly searing it, and giving you the true pork belly experience. Take notes please. It was a texture and flavor failure. The bbq sauces were off putting as well. First not spicy, and felt more like a marinade. Also, the tables were all ridiculously dirty. Old napkins, and greasy left overs. I saw several, like more than three patrons clean their own tables. With us that would make 4. I'm going to do one thing I've never done. Every single reviewer that has been here before, and caused it to have this high of score. Shame on every single one of y'all!!! Heck go to R&R bbq and then come here again and tell me it deserves that high score! WHAT AM I MISSING?!? Was this the worst off day I caught them in? I cannot express how much I don't recommend driving here from San Antonio. Heck I live in the area and I can't even recommend it to my friends and family. Thank goodness that the bakery next door saved my reputation! That will be my next review.

26 Jul 2023 We had…read moremade a reservation for 4pm, because it sounded like you needed a reservation. We got there at 3:50pm, walked in and no one was at the host station. There was a sign to seat yourselves. OK. We sat down and the bartender brought us menus. Us and a group of three were the only customers. Brought us waters. While looking at the menu, a server comes over and asks if we wanted appetizers or go straight to order. Straight to order, please. The husband ordered the brisket pot roast. It came with asparagus and what he thinks was puréed squash. I had the pecan chicken. Panko breaded with pecans and a bourbon sauce. Maple and bourbon were the flavor elements. Came with baked Mac and cheese and sliced slightly charred carrots. This was really good, as was the husbands plate. Warm Sourdough bread and butter is served with the meal. We split a Caesar salad. The salad was OK, the dressing was a little tart and served on the side. I'm taking a slice of chocolate cake to go. As I peek into the bag, it is a generous slice with strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream. Stay tuned. The restaurant is part of the Hillside Resort. Looks like a bunch of rooms. When we were about to leave a group of women came in and sat at the bar. I told the bartender we'd heard about them through Texas Eats. He said 'are they still showing that? That was about six chefs ago!' All righty then. I'd say it's worth a trip to try.

Reservations were made ahead of time for 4 and upon arrival we were were seated right next to the large open windows. Ordered the Berry Patch cocktail- nice and refreshing with a splash of mint leaves. Menu wasn't overwhelming and had a nice assortment of dishes. Starters ordered - pork belly bites and fried Brussels sprouts. Both highly recommend! Dishes ordered- salmon, pork chop, pot roast, and steak. Pork chop and steak were not dry, but juicy with lots of flavor. I loved pot roast growing up , so I had to order it here. Although tasty, texture was a little chewy and tough. Also would have enjoyed a little more helping of vegetable/potato purée underneath the roast. The salmon dish looked fabulous, but was slightly salty. The sweet bun that accompanied each dish were delicious! Service was good. I'd come back to try the pork chop next time around.

We did wait about 20 minutes for our food to come out, again it was Mother's Day so that probably played an effect. When you walk into this restaurant, I felt as though I was transported to a small Italian restaurant nestled in Venice...it wasn't the decorations but possible just the building itself that reminded me of restaurants in Europe. Although the place only has window units, it wasn't as hot as the 100°+ heat outside and it was welcoming. Note to everyone: make reservations for Friday or Saturday evening as they are packed! We didn't know this and the lady asked if we wanted to sit outside and because it was nearly 110° outside we asked if we could sit inside. She stated they were completely booked but she will do what she can. There was a large group of 15 that had reservations and her and the owner, Luigi, made accommodations to fit my family of 4. You can tell the atmosphere was one where these people are regulars the way the owner interacted with them. The menu was extensive and had everything for everyone. They also gave you complimentary garlic bread that were beyond amazing! This can be a meal in itself! They came out piping hot and fresh! Beware, you can get full off of these alone! One is not enough! We ordered the following: 1. Cheese pizza 2. Chicken piccata 3. Chicken tetrazzini 4. Spaghetti with meatballs Ask my daughter and the cheese pizza was two thumbs up, ask my husband and he said the pizza was really good! Great flavor, not too thick, not too thin for their liking. I ordered the chicken piccata and it was very good. The only criticism I have and it's a weird one, was that I thought there was too much chicken. Don't get me wrong, I like chicken but when it comes to pasta, I love pasta and the sauce much more! Next time I will ask for less chicken and more pasta. It was great. Not too buttery, capers gave it a punch, and the pasta was cooked to perfection. My husband had the tetrazzini and I will tell you I absolutely thought it was better than mine! I loved his more and it had such a great balance of flavors of peppers and artichoke and the pasta was perfectly cooked. I will probably order this next time! My son ate the spaghetti and meatballs and said it was the best spaghetti and meatballs he's ever had! He tore right into it and loved it, which is rare. The meatballs had great flavor, but the sauce reminded me of the chefboyree, which my husband loves so he loved it as well. Update: we are here again and did the meat sauce and it was soooo much better in my opinion. I ordered some Dessert and all were so good. The owner is incredibly nice and accommodating! The service was great as well! I love this hole in the wall! Love this place! Definitively Recommended!
