    Matt A.

I recently posted a review on Google maps (and will on other social media review sites as well) and left only one star. Why? They were out of almost everything on Labor Day. AND an advertised price was misleading. Alamo farms had a Labor Day sale of $6.99 a pound for T-Bone sirloin or ribeye. I called on Sunday to see if they were going to be open on Monday and if they took credit cards. I told them I had seen the sale online and wondered if they were well-stocked. I was told they were. I drove 30 miles on Labor Day Monday to get there only to see THREE relatively thin cut ribeyes in the display case, and absolutely nothing else. No T-Bone, No Sirloin. Thinking perhaps they had some beef hanging in their cooler, I asked an individual if they could cut thicker steaks, and I was told they could cut them as thick as I wanted them (for proper grilling or cooking in a cast iron skillet in an oven you need at least one inch thick steaks if not 1 1/2 to 2 inch thick steaks). But I was told prime category would be $8.99 a pound - which is not a bad price, but that is not what was ADVERTISED. I asked about the advertised price, and I was told those were "choice" quality (still not a bad cut) and they were sold out Saturday (thank you for telling me on the phone when I called to save me a trip!) and that the ad was 'clear' that it was subject to whatever was on hand (no rain checks of course, as if anyone does that anymore - as I would have gladly taken a rain check for a later date). I am attaching a screenshot of their ad. If you can see the asterisk or something that says it only applied to "choice" cuts, and that it was only subject to whatever was already cut or on hand, I will gladly buy you lunch and apologize. I offered to show the ad, but no one was interested. I wonder why?? Where I come from, that is called "bait and switch" advertising. I don't know if it is illegal in Texas, but it is certainly bad faith and maybe the local press, or the trade commission would like to know about this? It does not give a very good impression of a place I had hoped to make a long time merchant that I would go to very regularly. But now I don't know if I will be back unless they want to call and talk to me and work something out. I kind of have a problem dealing with people who LIE to me and who LIE in their advertising. That is not a respectable way to run a business. But I welcome the opportunity for them to match their advertised price and I will purchase several pounds. Until then folks, I would encourage you all to look elsewhere.

I feel like i just unlocked a foodie secret source, likely to get banned from the club but i can't not share. So here goes: i eat goat, yep sure do, and not many places here to get mannish wata so no option but to make it. For a very longtime i had no idea where to find the key ingredient: goat meat. In comes Alamo farm. I opened the door and the sheer cleanliness of the storefront and showcase made me comfortable. Service was excellent, the right amount of light banter mixed with good information. I left happy with fresh ingredients and my soup was delicious! They sell poultry and beef also.

It was disgusting with feces everywhere and no one could speak proper English. The chickens were bleeding and the animals were so cramped that they could barely move. I waited for 30 minutes for someone to finally realize I was there. If you come here, I recommend you just don't go to the live animal section unless you're able to handle it.

We had breakfast tacos, waffles, coffee, and a few other breakfast items, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The coffee was especially good. What surprised me most was how much more this place is than a restaurant. The historic home, museum rooms, gift shop, bakery counter, and beautifully maintained grounds make it feel like a destination rather than just a place to grab breakfast. The atmosphere reminded me of visiting a family home that has been lovingly preserved for generations. There is so much history throughout the property, yet it still feels warm and welcoming instead of formal. I was also impressed by the gift shop. It's packed with Pioneer products, baking mixes, Texas-made goods, and unique souvenirs. The bakery case alone is worth checking out because the desserts are enormous and looked amazing. We happened to visit on a rainy morning, so there was no wait. After seeing the property and experiencing the food, I completely understand why people are willing to line up on busy days. If you're visiting San Antonio, I would recommend giving yourself extra time here. Come for breakfast, stay to explore the house, browse the gift shop, and walk the grounds. It's a place that feels uniquely Texan and unlike anywhere else I've visited.

Be prepared for a wait since seating is first-come, first-served and the restaurant gets quite busy. Fortunately, the wait didn't feel long at all because we were able to explore the surrounding historic neighborhood while waiting for our table. Once seated, there was a bit of a wait for the food ( hence 4 stars), but it was well worth it. Everything tasted fresh and made to order. Our server, Martin, was fantastic. He was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent customer service throughout our visit. The house coffee was a standout. It had a unique blend of spices that gave it a rich, flavorful taste unlike a regular cup of coffee. For food, we ordered the sweet waffle, and it was rich and buttery. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and equally delicious. The biscuits were soft, buttery, and flaky, while the gravy was flavorful. Overall, a wonderful dining experience with great food, excellent service, and a beautiful atmosphere. I would definitely return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We arrived around 5pm on a Thursday and got in queue which was out the door and wrapping around the front porch. Their host/doorman was kind, he offered the line water on many occasions and made pleasantries with almost all guests as the line moved. It was a hot day so those waters were clutch. By the time we made it to the front of order line maybe 40 minutes had passed. But ladies and gents the wait is worth it. When we plated our trays on the table my family all had heart eyes, and had equally loved our first bites. Their brisket is extremely tender. It's beautifully sliced and made for an amazing welcome back to the South taste for me. I was in heaven. I particularly enjoyed having the fresh pickled red onion for fresh, zesty cuts through the abundance of other saltier elements on the plate. Their menu is slammin! Their sides, and sausages all had crafty ingredients. I enjoyed their spicy link options and their macaroni was delightful. Their BBQ sauce was a nice 4/5 but certainly did the job. As a native Texan who's had their fair share, this was easily some of the best barbecue I've ever had. Top 5 top 5 top 5. I'm of course coming back and looking forward for more banana cream pudding especially. They were small, slightly sweet, and had great balance with the vanilla wafer ratio. That whip cream on top too had me hooked. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome back meal for the bold Texas cuisine, hospitality, and novelty animal and cowboy decor.
