3.5 rounded up. Woman who helped us out was really kind and helpful, she went over options and what we would possibly like. They were out of a couple things though but it wasn't a big deal since we didn't want what they were out of lol. The garlic cheese bread was good and so was the pizza! We tried their angry sauce which we didn't personally think was spicy it just kind of tasted like sweet salsa since it had jalapeños instead of spicy marinara which normally has crushed red pepper or other spices. There are still plenty of places in Castroville that I have yet to explore. I've driven by The Dough Station multiple times and always thought it seemed like a good place to get some slices. An opportunity arose yesterday, and I ordered two pizzas for pickup. The only way to order takeout is by calling the store. They don't take orders online. It only took a few rings, and I was able to easily place my order. They told me it would be 25 to 30 minutes, so I showed up about 30 minutes later around 6:30 pm. After I paid, it took another 10 minutes for the pizzas to be ready, and I left with them in hand at 6:40. The place clearly had an evening rush since the parking lot was pretty full. The space is a hybrid indoor-outdoor setup with a small inside room to order and check out. It's hard to explain the exact vibe of the place, but honestly, it's such a cool spot. The restaurant is in a former gas station, and they keep that energy through modernized yet slightly rustic decor. Outside seating is picnic benches with umbrellas protecting customers from the Texas heat. The place was poppin' on a Friday night because frankly, it's the place to be. Such a cool evening vibe. It reminds me of More Homeslice off Congress in Austin, but more local and with a great bar. As for the pizza, they only have one size at 14 inches (6 slices), with a 10-inch cauliflower crust for the homies who need it. We ordered two pizzas for my parents and me, and it was plenty. For being 6 slices each, the proportions are fair, but we were hungry, so 4 slices each was perfect. Next time, I think I'll opt for one of their appetizers too because they look fire, especially the house-made parisa (say less!!). We ordered The AMC, which had brisket, bacon, pepperoni, meatballs, and mortadella. It's a unique take on a meat lovers pizza, but it was fire, especially the cuts of brisket. My dad and I crushed the pizza. No survivors. For my mom, we got a cheese pizza (they call it The McCallister) with black olives. She didn't finish the pizza, so my dad and I did. Double homicide. I rock with woodfire pizza, and The Dough Station did a great job. The entire 10-minute drive home, I was tempted to open up a box and sneak a slice, but I knew I'd be judged for my greed. I'm excited to return to The Dough Station and eat in person soon, because if the vibes don't pull me back, the pizza definitely will. read more

We have been coming to this pizza place almost weekly since them opened almost 2 years ago. It's that good and we think the owners are super nice too. They have a great mixture of traditional pizzas and even some they have put their own spin on. We recommend The Local and the Arugula pizza. The Local is a bbq brisket pizza. It has a tangy sauce, brisket from the local bbq joint in town, pickles and pickled red onions. It sounds so weird but trust me it's delicious! The arugula pizza is my husbands favorite. It has a white sauce, arugula, cheese and salty little bits. It's great. They offer normal crusts and gluten free. I'm not gluten free but I think their gluten free crust is amazing too. I highly recommend saving some room for gelato. She has some creative flavors and they are very much worth splurging on. read more

Had high hopes, but it was not to be. Just not impressed by the pizza. The crust is the hero, but seemed to lack toppings. As if not enough sauce or cheese to support the cupped pepperoni. That left a lack of flavor for me. Eclectic menu. Former gas station/garage turned bar with outdoor tables. Found an unusual sensation with a Ruben sandwich: warm bread, meat, cheese, but cold sauerkraut. Just turned me off a bit. Appreciate that they source items from other local shops and restaurants. Pizza here is great. We showed up at 6pm and it was pretty busy. Order inside and then grab a seat outside. There is a full bar here too. We ordered the Chisme bread, The McCallister, flammkuchen, and The Angry. The Chisme comes with a sauce, so we got the house made ranch. Everything was so tasty. Camera always eats first BUT we were starving by the time we got back to San Antonio so I didn't get any pictures! As someone who is gluten free it's not just the taste that matters but the safety matters too. They were extremely careful and led with "preference or allergy", a crucial distinction for someone with Celiac like me. That is great service and pride in what you are doing. Anywho, on one of our many trips through Castroville we decided to stop here after noticing this place a few months back. My gluten free Margherita pizza was great! I had sausage added. The burrata salad was so good! I have done nothing but complain about the lack of burrata in San Antonio. My husband's pizza (normal crust) was very good looking. I'm so bummed I didn't take pictures. Haha It's worth the stop! We would've eaten in for a first time try normally but we're on the road with our pups and it's just not feasible. Parking up front can be tricky but there is normally plenty of street spots. I had no idea how cute Castroville was and wish I had know back when we first moved to TX. There's a nice little bar where we ordered drinks and the bartender even came to our table to take more drink orders. All the staff were really great. This is a really cute, authentic pizza spot. The dough is chewy and delicious. The only thing that kept me from the 5 stars was the lack of cheese on the margherita, using bigger chunks of mozzarella to balance the sauce would have made it better. Both owners were on site when we stopped in on a trip out west. The sign is what pulled me in - it's styled like an Exxon sign with overlapping letters, but it's a "pizza" sign with overlapping Zs. The fact that it's housed in an old gas station made the sign extra fun - had to check it out. Food options were way over than I expected! Everything house-made and lots of delicious choices. I went pimento and parisa for an appetizer and the "grapes of wrath" for my pizza. Both were outstanding. There's also a small bar on site (all seating is on a patio-style setup) with some craft beers and even a non-alcoholic option. I went with the non-alcoholic beer and it was great! My fiancé and I are out of towners. We were in Castroville passing through to head to del rio for an Air Force drop night but I have to say this was a great random choice for dinner! The BEST pizza I have ever had, and I don't say that lightly. I had their vegetarian style pizza, it's on their secret menu. Everything was so fresh. The staff was the sweetest. I'm sooo glad we came here after church. This place has soo many positives I won't have enough room to type. Let's start with ambience and service. If more restaurants cared about the quality of your service and be appreciative of your patrons, there would be higher reviews. IT MATTERS! The use of the old space was genius. Love it, especially the black and white picture of Anthony Bourdain. We started off with the Parisa and chisme bread. The Parisa was great. The balance of flavors, and the quality of the ingredients really shined here. If you are a good and honest reviewer you have to be honest. The only issue we had was the saltine crackers served with it. We felt the Parisa deserved maybe a better cracker or some type of bread. Chisme bread with the angry sauce. If we had eaten that, and only that, it would still be a five. The angry sauce tends to lean more toward a chunky salsa, rather than say a spicy marinara. Yet it WORKED! Amazing!!! For our pizzas we chose the Station Margherita and the McCalister. We added spinach to our Margherita and I definitely recommend you try it that way too. I hope they take this as a compliment, this is what Dough Pizzeria used to be back in the day. Perfectly executed, great ingredients, and people who truly care about their products. The McCalister was good. I think our mistake may have been putting pepperoni on top thus not making it great. May have weighed it down, and contributed to some of the pizza being a little floppy and soggy on about a quarter of the pizza. Still good though and the pepperoni was delicious. I've never been a fan of dessert pizzas. We only got it because we craved sweet, and figured we would give the S'mores pizza a try. It has changed my mind of what a dessert should be. I may even like this pizza more than real s'mores. I still love traditional, yet I would include this on my list of all time favorite desserts. Bravo!!!! It's hot outside, so eating hot pizza will not help, but the food was so good we didn't notice. FYI to parents of picky eaters. This is artisan pizza, not Pizza Hut, my kids are foodies. This is a 100 PERCENT highly recommend and we will be coming back to try more of the menu. My family stopped in at The Dough Station in Castroville to grab some Wood Fired Pizza after a friend recommended the restaurant. The restaurant has an interesting setup and a distinct charm to it. The building looks like an old gas filling station/garage that has been converted with a modern spin. They have seating inside where you can watch your pizza being prepared and cooked in a giant wood fire oven or they have an umbrella covered seating area outside. While the menu had many unique pizzas that sounded really good we ended up deciding to order "The Local" pizza (white pizza, Brisket, pickles, pickled onions, and a barbecue sauce drizzle), the "Flammkuchen" pizza (Alsatian style pizza caramelized onions, bacon, and creme fraiche), and a tradional Pepperoni pizza. After ordering we decided to grab some drinks from the bar. They had a good variety of beers on tap and a good selection of craft beersand wines with even some local favorites. The food came out fairly quick. I have to say our family eats alot of pizza and this is one of the best pizza we have had. The combination of ingredients made for a very balance flavor profile on the pizza. And there is something about the dough, between the wood fired flavor and the chewy crust. The staff were very friendly and attentive and all the food we had was amazing. We ended up eating way too much, but did get a Smore pizza to go. It was really good and surprisingly it wasn't overly sweet. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and we will be back to try some of the other pizzas and sandwiches they have on the menu. THIS PIZZA JOINT NEEDS A RESTRAINING ORDER The Dough Station is dangerously addictive, and I'm pressing charges against their wood-fired oven for stealing my heart. This ex-gas station is now a pizza palace with crusts so perfect, I'm convinced they're made with unicorn tears. The outdoor seating with those dreamy lights is basically a portal to Chillville in the heart of downtown Castroville. The staff's laid back enough to be my new best friends. I'm not saying it's the best place on Earth, but I'm typing this from their parking lot. Seriously, the pizza was so good that I'm not saying I cried, but my pizza was suspiciously salty. The food is sooooooo good. The dough is crispy and perfectly chewy. The cheese bread and cheese on the pizza have a good, meaty consistency. The beers on draft are $7.50 and the pizzas start at ~$22. There's seating under the garage doors and picnic tables just outside. The restrooms are the older ones from the gas station that are not part of the inside building. Staff was VERY kind and helpful. They were happy to hear that it was my first time. I will be returning, and more prepared for the prices. The food price equals the quality of food. They even let us have the pizza that didn't come out right, (a lil burned on the bottom) -which we thought tasted just fine- and brought us out a fresh one, did not charge for the burnt pizza. Ordered the AMC for pickup. Was looking for a good pizza but we were not impressed. The pizza was small, burnt crust and for $25 was not impressed. Sorry, dough was cheesy and not enough sauce. The ceasar salad was not what we are used to... lots of crispy romain with lots of seasoned crotons, shreds of parmesean.. not what we got. Sorry won't be ordering from here. read more
