This location has the most inconsistent and unsatisfactory customer service I've ever experienced. Despite being a regular customer who has spent hundreds of dollars each month on a variety of meats and organ cuts, I've repeatedly been made to feel as though my business is unwelcome. Requests for simple services, such as cutting organs, are often met with visible annoyance, claims of inconvenience, and random upcharges that appear to change based on whoever is working. My most recent experience was the final straw: I asked to have a frozen beef heart cut, as I have many times before, only to suddenly be told it could not be done until thawed. In the past, not only has this service been provided without issue, but I've also been inconsistently charged extra depending on the size of cuts--something my girlfriend, purchasing the exact same items, has never once experienced. These contradictions and shifting rules make it very clear that the staff provides better service selectively, based on who they want to serve. I've also heard from others about similar treatment and even discriminatory experiences at this location, which unfortunately matches my own impressions. After repeated poor service, inconsistent pricing, and unprofessional behavior, I will not be returning. read more

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Schott's Meat Market at the Alamo Ranch location in San Antonio, Texas. My daughter placed an order for beef sticks to be shipped to Florida for Father's Day. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the zip code, and the order was returned back to the store. When I called to resolve the matter, I was connected with a shipping representative named Michelle. From the start, her tone was unnecessarily curt and unprofessional. Rather than assisting with a solution, she was dismissive and made me feel like I was a burden. Rather than trying to provide support she said it's my daughter's fault and nothing could be done. I only asked as a long time customer to redo the order as a courtesy and she ultimately was rude and hung up on me Due to the lack of courtesy, I called back and asked to speak with a manager or the owner, and was eventually connected to Mike Schotts who I later found out is the owner. Shockingly, Mike was even more abrupt than Michelle and extremely rude to me. Instead of expressing any interest in resolving the issue or valuing me as a long-time customer, his response was essentially, "What do you want?"--as though I was an inconvenience for reaching out. It was not just unhelpful--it was outright disrespectful. Mike said Michelle from shipping had said I was rude and yelled at her which was false. As someone who has supported this business for years and spent a considerable amount of money here, this treatment was completely unacceptable.I have heard some rumblings about racial tensions but I have never experienced it til now and I am extremely disappointed and disturbed. The public deserves to know who they are dealing with before placing large orders or relying on this business for quality customer service. It's incredibly unfortunate that a local business would treat loyal customers in this way. The fam and I went out on a little adventure to get snacks and check out a new place, and I gotta say it was a good experience all in all they had something for all of us we got jerky really good, and some brisket bombs pretty good, we also got sausages that I enjoyed the hell out of and the pin wheels are the bomb. But alas there was some not so good stuff the pickled quail eggs not for this fella, and sadly had a dislike for there meat log but for one reason only ,the hole pepper corn outside of that it had really good flavor I just dug out the pepper corns. We will be going back as I plan to try some other stuff like there steak they all looked really good. So if you are out there way stop in and grab some jerky or a steak either way support our locals as these folks got some good stuff to offer. read more

Amazing quality!! We like steak medium rare and it just so happened that the meat thermometer I've had for years decided to break so the steaks got a little over cooked for our liking. My fiancé was super annoyed at himself because of how expensive these steaks are. After letting them sit in tin foil for a little bit they actually came out perfect! We definitely wish the steak would of been a little bit more rare but even on the pieces where it was super over-cooked the flavor was incredible. We weren't crazy about the twice baked potatoes but they are great if you're in a hurry to cook dinner and don't have time to make your own. I definitely recommend trying this place. This place is refreshing to say the least and I'm not just referring to how fresh their meats are. The variety, seasonings, even down to the packaging is on point. It has a small old hometown butcher shop feel with the friendly staff to boot. The best part is that it's affordable considering the quality. I've visited two locations, the one on Bandera and the one on Culebra (far west) and don't have a preference because they're both great. I will note one purchase we made that we were blown away by and have repurchased since is this pork & alligator sausage brand that I've only seen there. Brand is "Alligator's sausage co. It's Alligator and pork sausage-jalapeno cheddar" it's not too spicy or any of what you'd expect with those ingredients. I took some to my folks down on the border and now they're requesting I bring more next time we head down there to visit again. read more

I had a sausage with Mac and cheese in it at a festival years ago and it was delicious. I called Schott's and spoke with the owner who was willing to make the custom sausage and it turned out better than the original festival sausage. I was very surprised by this visit. There are some interesting items for sale here but a few things need to be addressed. First, some things do not have a price. That's very odd for a store. You either have to ask someone about the price for every unpriced item or wait for the surprise at the register. I'm not a fan of either option. Second thing, there are no dates provided on some of items. That is a bit odd for a store that sells food. There is no telling how long some items have been there, especially in the frozen section. Now, anyone can say they are on top of things or they thoroughly check the inventory but that's not good enough. The third and perhaps the most bothersome thing, many if not all preseasoned meats contain MSG, monosodium glutamate. I was not expecting that at all because this isn't an 80s era Chinese take-out spot. I had to put several items back after reading the ingredients. There is no good reason to ever ruin food with MSG. It is such a disappointing sight at a butcher shop. The guacamole they sell, even though it's about ten bucks per container, was pretty good. I would definitely buy it again. It tastes very fresh and has all the good stuff in it. The employees were decently friendly so that keeps Schott's floating at three stars. I also like the free tiny crosses at the register. Guys, for the love of food and out of respect for your customers, buy some salt and throw away the MSG forever. This isn't a Wal-Mart. read more

Their prices are great, their selection is pretty wide, and everything I have gotten from them has been quality and exactly as described. Their jalepeno cheddar sausage is among the absolute best I've had, and their chop steaks ARE the best I've ever had. Even the stuff that they do not make in house is still very fairly priced, and I always ask for a receipt with my purchase, not because I'm worried something is wrong, but because I want to be able to show off how much I got for so little money! Great service, I bought some tripe at Walmart but forgot to get it cut. I called up there to see if they would cut it for me since I didn't want to. They told me they would. When I brought it in I was welcomed in by gene and he took my tripe and cut it up for me. It was super quick and they did a good job. This place has gone under. They do not take in whole deer and recommend that you skin it and quarter it right after you kill it then put meat in ice chest with layer of ice on bottom and top. This is the worst thing you can do to fresh meat is cool it in ice water. That is how meat gets grey real fast. And the gentleman who told me that was a manager of the processing unit. I am completely shocked someone in this business would even recommend that. Of the management is doing that I could only imagine the rest. I would definitely never bring any meat for them to process.
