I stopped by Doener Kebab at Turk's Inn on a Saturday night around 9:45 with Bushwick bars in action all around. I had never noticed this small take out spot before, but the thought of having a Doener Kebab like I have had in Germany drew me in from across the street. They are open until 11 on Saturday nights and I expect they receive a lot of foot traffic. The menu is on the wall to your left upon entry into a small space where you can place your order at a counter in front. The woman behind the court was patient and courteous as I explained to her I was looking for a spicy version that reminded me of what is served in sections of German cities where Middle Eastern and Turkish people often live and have restaurants and street vending. You can order your choice of protein over rice or in a pita pocket. I chose the lamb and beef combo with everything in the pita pocket. Everything includes shredded lettuce, tomatoes and the pickled onions. The meat is plentiful and generous at this sub $20 price point. The veggies round it out nicely. The flavor is very good, but I do not find the spice level matches what I have experienced in Germany. Next time I will request extra extra spicy. I will return. 3.7 stars! read more

I got a lamb and beef doner kebab with haullomi, and a side of pickled vegetables. The doner was gigantic and delicious! The only thing I didn't enjoy was the cabbage I added. It was meant to be a bit pickled, which I normally love, but this was stranegly sweet? This also affected the pickled vegetables I ordered. I'm a huge pickled vegetable fan, and have had the pickle plate from Turks Inn nextdoor many times. But these were sweet and had a very off/odd unidentifiable flavor, and I was unable to eat any of them unfortunately. But that doner was great! read more

My friends and I popped into this establishment yesterday to grab a quick bite. We ordered a beef and lamb doner sandwich, a doner fry box, hummus with Pide. The doner sandwich was very well made, the meat was flavorful and the sandwich was generously packed. However for $14.99 it was a little overpriced. Turkish bread is generally very soft and pillowy but these sandwiches were made in thinner chewier Afghan style bread. It was so very good but didn't feel very authentic. I would've loved to see more sauce or vegetables in the sandwich itself. Meat was seasoned very well but was a little bit on the dry side. The fry box was amazing it came with hot fries and chicken shavings as well as sauce and pickled cabbage. I would've like to see more garlic sauce on the fries and a larger serving of meat on top. We definitely ran out of meat before the fries finished. The hummus came with the same type of bread the sandwich was made in so it didn't feel special. The taste of the hummus was very one-dimensional. It could've really used some brightening up with a little bit of lemon/sumac or paprika of some kind. They don't have a soda fountain so we had to pay an exorbitant amount for sparkling flavored water. They had Diet Coke in a glass bottle which was $3. Even though we did enjoy the food I think the price point is a little steep for what you get and there is room for many minor improvements. read more

Grabbed a lamb and beef doner kebab sandwich from the counter at Turk's Inn. Not too many spots in NYC that serve proper doner kebab sandwiches so I was excited to try this. They're open until about 11 pm which isn't as late as most of the spots in Europe but I'm happy this place exists. I had a sandwich with all of the fixings. Delicious medley of meats and salads. Service was quite quick. The sandwich window is a takeout out set up. They have some outdoor seating which I believe you can utilize. read more

i ordered the doner kebab with lamb and beef, but i was really disappointed with the taste of the sandwich. the meat was really starchy and flavorless. the pickled cabbage was flavorless. didn't really taste turkish, i ended up having to give it away because it was too unpleasant. as for the baklava, the portion was pretty small, but i really didn't like the flavor much and wouldn't order again. i also was excited to get the hummus and bread that probably would have been good, but unfortunately, they didn't have any at that moment. staff was really friendly, good service. it's just the food here is really not worth the money, i ended up paying $20 for a meal i didn't like and had to buy food elsewhere, so this was an unfortunate & expensive waste! read more

A classic tale of New York taking a simple European pleasure, super sizing it, mistaking quality for quantity, and charging 3x what it should cost. Doner is a meat sandwich so why are you upcharging for the meat? the beef / lamb mix was grey, leathery, tasted funny and cut into comically large chunks that made it difficult to eat as a sandwich. I made the mistake of taking mine to go so by the time I ate it the sauce soaked through the bread and it was falling apart. it had the texture & appeal of a wet sock. The salad topper was tasty & bright so maybe I'd give the falafel a chance. But it's more food than I needed, and ended up wasting, and for $20 I felt had by the New York hype machine. the guy who took my order was friendly and nice, so no shade to the service. All my peeps who have been to Europe know the struggle of wanting döner and not finding as tasty options in the states. This spot though changes that! Turks Inn has a restaurant but they also have a walk up window right next door. The kebabs are cheaper here and with faster service. My boo and I went here to grab a kebab as a snack before making dinner (a 3 hour affair), so we ordered the chicken kebab in a pita. You cal also get it on a salad if preferred. We also had all of the toppings except cucumbers and tomatoes cause I'm allergic to the cubes. I wish the separated out the two cause I love tomato bit c'est la vie. We waited about 10 minutes and they wrap it up nicely and ask if you want a plastic bag. We headed home and opened it up there and I'm glad we did. They kebab was overflowing with meat and toppings and a delicious mess to eat. The flavors were spot on and the two sauces went perfect. I am from Turkey and this is definitely not A döner we know. First of all you can't put skin to chicken don't. It must be pure breast without any other weird parts. German style doner doesn't come with chicken skin. Horrible taste. read more

Sorry, this place is wickedy-WHACK. Sandwich: Not what I was expecting at all for a higher priced gyro/pita-san. Bread was hard and the sandwich ratio was all the way off. Some bites tasted like, all veggies? Some bites tasted like, all bread? Some bites tasted like, "where the hell is the meat/sauce?" And it was messy... Maybe the sauce was my fault. I didn't say go heavy... but there was barely anything there. We literally grabbed whatever sauce we could in the fridge to give it favor. Service: Dude at the register was real nice. The good: They say the meat is sourced responsibly and it does taste high quality. The salad option is great for a carb free meal. The bread is nice and not typical pita but Turkish pide. Chicken is delicious The bad: While lunch is great if you go for dinner you may get dry meat that has been sitting since lunch. Last time I went it was so salty I couldn't eat it. The salads can have too much dressing and become hard to eat. The price is really really high, even if the meat is high quality. You'll pay over $13 for a doner sandwich, which is sort of silly. read more

I'm not sure where the people who are saying this is a small portion for the price ate, but it certainly wasn't this place. This sandwich is literally one of the biggest sandwiches I've ever purchased in my life. As for the quality I think it's pretty up there. I had the chicken and it was well seasoned and sandwich overall was really good. Especially the pide bread it's served on. There was an almost BBQish taste to it, which I believe was the spicy ketchup. It's literally enough for 2 people so if you look at it that way it's actually a fair price. It's a solid sandwich. All the toppings were good (even the tomatoes), the döner was good, the bread was good. But a really really small amount of street food for 14 bucks. I'd give it another try because I really want to like it, but in all honestly it was pretty disappointing. I've lived in Berlin and lived off Doner and Halloumi sandwiches for entire summers of my life. You can't beat the cheapest meal in Europe at 3-4 euros. I had the Döner Kebab, naturally, it was good! The meat was quality and tasty, the bread it was served on was really great. I'd wager they actually make their own bread (just a guess). For kebab it's kinda expensive though, like a normal kebab is a little shy of $14. ...this is street food we're talking about. (There's no sitting or standing room really). Also the quality of the toppings were really weak for that premium price. So like the meat and bread were great, but then the lettuce and other stuff felt like it might have come from a food service. I enjoyed it and will go back when I'm in the mood. I feel like I have other go to places that are a 25%-50% less the cost though. Good luck to them! This was the best damn kebab experience of my life. Plus the spice fries. Freezing my legs off as the arctic blast came through the front door into the 3x4 standing space. I had the beef and lamb doner bowl takeout, and my experience was similar to the other legit reviews here. The dish was 90% french fries and thus I was shocked at the overpricing. Meat had the texture of beef jerky and the spices on it gave me gas and stomach ache for a couple days. It's not their fault I was allergic and you might not be. Pretty tasty but my overall experience was just a no go. The guy who worked the register didn't change his gloves while handling the food. He looked pretty miserable too. The salad with lamb and haloumi is in the top 5 most delicious things I've ever eaten. Fresh ingredients, juicy crispy lamb, chewy haloumi, shredded kale, pickled cabbage, generous servings of red and white sauce. The first time I had Turks Inn Döner I had to take a moment to really relish the food. It hit me in the same way as Xi'ans Famous and Joe's Shanghai. This is echelons above random, even well regarded street cart food. (Zero shade to street carts!) I hope this spot gets the success it needs to be around for a long, long time. read more

Great food! I had the lamb/beef Döner Kebab to start... yes! Picked cabbage and fillings were on point (get both sauces - red and white!). Friendly customer service and nice place to sit and eat.
