O'Brien's food has always been good. This time I had the Reuben sandwich and the corned beef had a very nice taste, There was nothing I found outstanding about the Reuben, it was just a very good tasting Reuben sandwich with not anything extra special about it. The fried fish and chips were a surprise. because of the amount of fried fish that was served. There was a generous amount of fried Cod with fries (chips) and a small amount of coleslaw. There was enough coleslaw served to make you hungry for coleslaw. The fish was properly fried and very hot when placed on our table. The fried fish had a good flavor. The Roasted Red Pepper Bisque had an excellent taste. If you like a bowl of Bisque, you need to try one at O'Brien's. read more

My first time visiting O'Brien's since McMahon's occupied the space. It was a Sunday evening - we sat at one of their bars in a room with most of the lights turned down. Over in the corner a group of musicians were gathered around a table performing traditional Irish tunes. Very much enjoyed that. I ordered their fish and chips. Overall, pretty tasty. I thought the tartar sauce was a bit on the thin side. My favorite tartar sauces are a bit thicker and creamier. Service was good! read more

I just want to give a shout out to the bartender, Eden! We were in from Florida for my cousin's wedding here in Virginia and we ended up at O'Brien's. Funny thing is where I'm from in Boca Raton Florida we have an O'Brien's Irish pub as well... It was here at this bar that I ended up finding out I caught an 18 leg parlay for 70k!!! Eden made my night, and I watched her easily handle a bar with finese that would take two to three bartenders where I'm from. She rocked it!!!! The St. Patrick's event is the only time I have been here. I heard great things but had not gone until the festival. So Fun! Kids, families, couples, singles, all and the food & drinks were flowing. Thank you Jamison representative for handing out free samples. It was so great to try some Jamison because I didn't get to and I was in Ireland. Really like the orange Jamison. Loved all the little Jamison bling and scarves and all the wonderful things you gave us and walking around having , the ability to meet people parking was nice. The Irish dancing was fun. The musicians were good. I only got to hear the young lady on guitar and had it very nice time. My husband and I got to walk around and meet people as well and see people we knew from the community. Got raffle tickets didn't win didn't matter. We had a blast. Hope to go and have dinner there since some of her friends said they were there for the restaurant and enjoyed it. We had a decent experience at O'Brien's last night. It was our first time there. Food was good...not great, but good. The waitress was VERY nice, and it was a very comfortable atmosphere. It was a perfect Saturday night crowd in that it wasn't so crowded it was uncomfortable, yet there was enough of a crowd that you knew you were in a decent restaurant. Restaurant prices are so bonkers these days, I'm hesitant to say that I thought it was pricey. One appetizer, one beer, three entrees...$102, which includes the usurious Town of Warrenton restaurant tax, and includes the tip. The sausage-in-pastry appetizer was good. The stew was reported as good, the burger was rated as OK but not great. The fish-and-chips was OK, but it was strange to get it as one enormous deep-fried block instead of separate pieces. The only legitimate notable negative I can come up with is that the smashed peas with the fish-and-chips ($1 upcharge) having WAY too much vinegar, which made them inedible. It was kind of funny in that every couple of minutes, I would try another small bite of them thinking "They CAN'T be as vinegary as I remember...I'll try again.". I'd take the bite and all I'd taste was vinegar. My quirky positive takeaway was when I ordered a beer for the wife and me to split, the waitress had it poured into two smaller glasses, which was very well played on her part. My quirky negative takeaway was when we left, the greeter was curled up in a ball on her stool at the greeter station, focused on her smartphone instead of paying attention to what was going on in the restaurant. My finding that odd in a semi-formal restaurant probably belies my age, but it was a weird parting note. She was polite when she looked up from her phone as we passed by, but it was an odd visual to me in an otherwise nice restaurant. I wish I could give them 3 1/2 stars instead of 3, but those peas are causing me to round down instead of round up. read more

I've always been intrigued by the architecture of this building more than anything else on the way to visit Gray Ghost winery and really wanted to stop by and explore it. The architecture is 1930's roadside restaurant and motel somewhat similar to the original Howard Johnson's that used to dot the roads, but unfortunately have mostly disappeared due to development. Anyway inside is very big with multiple rooms and a fireplace in the bar that unfortunately was not lit. They should definitely use that fireplace as it was very cold and drafty inside and somewhat dark. It was already decorated for Christmas on 12/1/23 when I visited with a fresh cut tree next to my table. Our waitress was very friendly and fast with our requests. She also appeared to be the only one working in the bar area where we sat. As for the food, it was rather average. We played it safe with a hamburger and Reuben sandwich which we shared so we could try both. The beef in the burger was locally sourced, but cooked well when I requested medium. It still had a good flavor and was better than the Reuben. The fries and onion rings were good. Overall I would come back if in the area, but not make a special trip to do so. read more

As you can see from my last review last year this is one of my favorite Irish pubs. We were both here for a late lunch. We sat in their middle room. I started with and enjoyed my two Kilkenny drafts for $8.50 each or $17 total. Very few Irish pubs offer Kilkenny on draft. Guinness and Kilkenny draft beers are my two favorite draft beers. I also enjoyed my Reuben sandwich for $16 with onion rings. The onion rings added an additional $2 to my Reuben. My total bill for both of us was $66 excluding gratuity. Our bartender/server served us very well. She was very effective and fast. We agreed we will continue to return here for Irish cuisine and Irish draft beer. read more

Very nice Irish pub with plenty of room and plenty of parking. The service was good and the food was excellent. My wife had traditional Fish and Chips and I had the Ribeye Steak flatbread. To be honest, the flatbread and its cheese and onions was awesome on its own! At the back is a game room which is very inviting. We will definitely go back when we are in Warrenton. read more

The food here was really good, I tried multiple entrees and i'd have to say the best things were the rueben pizza and shepherds pie. The flavor of both these dishes were exceptional. The staff was friendly and diligent; The food came out of the kitchen quickly with no issues. This place had a great feel to it. In the back there was live music and entertainment. We had a great evening. The music was great. The duo had a lot of good songs they played. The food was very good. For the appetizers, we preferred the brat stuffed pastries. My son got the special which was beef wellington. Boy was it good. I got the Guinness stew which was full of meat. Tasty too. By husband got the fish and chips. It was fine, but I think mine and my son's meals were better. Unlike others comments on here about drink prices, I did not find them unusual for the cost. New to the area and exploring, so we happened to go out to dinner at O'Brien's. For an app, the table split the poutine. It was really tasty, though it felt a bit pricey for the portion size. A couple of those at the table had the fish and chips which looked really good. I went with the bangers and mash, which I was very happy with as well. We came here with friends on a Saturday evening and when we got there, it wasn't very busy in the main dining area, but the bar seating was about ¾ full. By the time we left, the entire place was packed! Rightly so, they have a nice menu loaded with popular Irish and British entrées and pub eats. Staff was very friendly, out servers were awesome. Nice meal and friendly staff. We went for lunch so it was a bit quiet but it seems like it would be a fun spot to drink a few pints.

We were there on a Sunday night. Sit in the middle room, it's a bar, there is live Irish music, as well as an Irish step dancer. The lights were off, the entire room was lit by candles. It was truly magical. The music was authentic and allowed for easy dinner conversation. We truly felt like we were in an Irish pub. On our way out we noticed the front room is an Irish tea room. Average food, and their bar prices are just completely unhinged. We stopped for drinks and were charged $25 for a 1.5 oz pour of Knob Creek. 12 is high 15 is expensive 25 is absolutely highway robbery. I have had knob creek at several other establishments in and around Warrenton (with much nicer decor and atmosphere by the way) ie Claires a much finer place charged $14 for a much better's pour. O'Brien's will never see any business from me. Take my advice and visit other Warrenton places. O'Brien's doesn't deserve your business read more

My friend and I celebrated our annual Christmas tea at Nora's tearoom which is located within O'Brien's pub in Warrenton. It was wonderful from the atmosphere, the bone china to the tea and scones. We will be back again and again. Jerry, the owner is from Ireland and the history of his life and love for his parents is key to his vision for the tearoom. The service, ham and sautéed onion sandwich and everything was outstanding. I highly recommend this jewel tearoom. read more

I and my two friends went for a late lunch right before they were switching out menus for dinner. Place was almost empty. We were seated in a corner booth, very cozy. I ordered the sausage rolls appetizer which was amazing, very light, buttery, flaky puffed pastry around sausage that almost melts in your mouth it was so tender and delicious. Another ordered the fish tacos which was good except the server neglected to mention that they were out of the avocado crema that was supposed to be on it so it was a bit dry although she offered to bring tarter sauce but that's really no substitute. My other friend ordered the O'Brien's Tower burger with onion rings and he said it was really good. Ambience was nice, what you'd expect in an old Irish Pub. A couple was playing corn hole outside and I saw others in another room sitting at a bar and watching TV. Our server was great, very attentive and friendly, you could tell she had been doing this for some time and seemed to enjoy her job the way she interacted with customers. Apparently this place is new and replaced McMahon's Irish Pub in 2021. While I'd never eaten at McMahon's, I would recommend O'Brien's. read more

I don't come here too often for a couple reasons. First one: I really don't drink anymore like I used too. At least with the previous owners it got a bit loud and reckless sometimes. I'm glad I'm not like that anymore but makes me not fit in here. At least that's how I feel anyway. Second: I'm pretty much pescatarian and here, I basically have 2 choices for dinner. Fish and chips and a salmon plate. Otherwise it's just not my type of place to keep coming back to eat. I stopped in today because the weather was nice and I'm tired of driving by without giving the new name a proper try. So....I came in before any big Saturday night crowd or similar. Walked in thru the main door. Party of one. Took a booth in the bar area. (Big booths. Easy to seat the family and have elbow room) A very pleasant young lady came to take my order and brought me a basket of bread and butter. I ordered fish and chips of course. ;) Didn't take very long at all. The fish was huge. Putting both palms side by side the fried fish was a bit bigger. A good amount of fries and a side of coleslaw. The fried fish was overdone a bit to where the "shell" was darkened almost to a burn point. However, when breaking into it , the actual fish was delightful. Very tasty and well seasoned. A lot of places that offer fish and chips don't flavor the fish, so overall, I can say I liked it. The fries got soggy really fast. I try not to eat those first because they make me full immediately, but I guess I didn't attend to them soon enough. The coleslaw was good and tasty. Nice and cold. Seasoned well. The waitress was super attentive and had a cheery smile. I enjoyed her. At one point a man gentleman walked over and asked "How are you doin' over here darlin' " and with that Irish accent, I just melted. No kidding. I could barely respond to him. Haha. I was a mess inside my head. I would come back and try the salmon dish and hope to be greeted by this gentleman again. He made my day. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch today and got some of the best pub food I've gotten, served the fastest I've ever gotten, along with a nice chat, and a good pint. This place is huge, was not full at lunch, but I can imagine Friday and Saturday nights. It's quite the site. I do not leave reviews often, if at all. I usually only leave reviews when I have an extremely good or extremely bad experience. Unfortunately, this review is the latter. Our server was polite and friendly, however, our experience was not a good one. Not always her fault this evening, but some of it was. My wife, daughter and I ordered our food. My wife ordered a Reuben sandwich, which was the only good thing that we ordered. She also ordered soup as well. Soup and salads should always come out before your meal. Her soup did not come out until she was 75% done her meal, and we had to ask about it. Okay, you forgot to put the order in, not the biggest deal in the world. But maybe something should have been done about it.... Like questioning if we still want it or not. My daughter's meal came out, a cheese quesadilla was ordered, and when it arrived it had chicken on it. My daughter will not eat chicken, so we had to send it back. It took at least 15 minutes for the second quesadilla to come back out to our table....a cheese quesadilla! Whether the waitress ordered it properly or the kitchen messed up the order or not, it should not take that long for a little replacement cheese quesadilla. My beef burger was ordered medium rare. It looked like a hockey puck when it arrived, chart on the outside and totally cooked inside. I took a couple bites hoping the center would at least be slightly pink....it was not at all and was totally cooked and had gristle chunks within. I have seen the movie Waiting, and I don't send food back typically.... So I muscled through it and spit out the gristle chunks. Both my wife and my meal came with french fries on the side. That's fine, but anytime fries are involved, the server should ask if you need ketchup, mustard, etc. We were never asked and after about 5 minutes of eating plain fries, I had to ask for ketchup. Finally, we received our check. Everything was included on the check and appropriate, according to menu and prices. However, my 10-year-old daughter's plain cheese quesadilla was $18! We have ordered many cheese quesadillas and never have I paid anything close to $18 for a little kids cheese quesadilla, let alone the cheese quesadilla from an Irish restaurant. I had to get up, leave the table and head to my car at that point. My wife felt compelled to say something at least about the price of the quesadilla, none of our other issues though. I had to leave because I wanted to complain about everything, and like I said before, i never complain about food or service unless it's awful. My daughter and I went to our car, my wife came out a few minutes later and said that the server simply said that's the price of our quesadilla! After all this, I asked my wife how she tipped..... She said she still tipped 15% (We are normally 20 to 30% tippers). I told her I'm not sure why you tipped at all. This was a terrible experience for us, as we're always on the lookout for a good restaurant to hit and break up our travels on the way home from Massanutten multiple times a year. Maybe it was an off night for them, maybe the kitchen was backed up although there was almost no one in the restaurant, maybe the server was spread too thin..... IDK. This place is authentic - the menu, the drink selection, and the food is all pure Irish warmth. It's run by a Kerry man, who does his best to greet customers and make people feel welcome. Along with his business partner (and wife), they do a fantastic job of running a first-class restaurant. Do yourself a favor and try the wings, and the Shepherd's Pie. No exaggeration, it's the best Shepherd's Pie I've had in the USA. Honestly. They also have an awesome (!) selection of Irish whiskey and bourbons. Can't wait to go back. read more

Best Onion Rings Ever! We came here today after hearing it had reopened under new ownership. It was a nice day so we ate outside on the patio. Everything was clean and tidy. The staff was very friendly and efficient. I had the Reuben Sandwich and Onion Rings. Absolutely Delish! My husband had the Fish & Chips and said the chips (French fries) were some of the best he'd ever had. While we were eating the owner stopped by to check on us and we had a nice chat about Ireland.
