Our hostess told us the owners had ordered and shipped from England. I enjoyed the Jägerschnitzel dinner, a hand-flattened pork loin fried and topped with traditional onion and mushroom gravy. Served with kraut, warm potato salad, and green beans. A German classic! This food tasted great and was cooked perfectly. I was very pleased to have found this place (through Yelp!) since I don't visit Fredericksburg often. Came here after an event with a party of 8! We had called prior and they informed us it was a 30 minute wait. The waiting area is actually pretty cute. The decor in the restaurant is like an old English tavern! It's super cute and the ambiance is really nice. Our table got the fish and chips, bourbon chicken, beef Wellington and the tavern burger. Before starting our mall shopping, we stopped in as a 4 about 2pm on a Friday without a reservation. Many open booths and tables so we were seated right away. The outside and inside decor reminded us of an extra large London pub. Lots of dark wood features with claw footed tables and chairs. Our server was training an associate and together tag teamed our table with lots of attention. We had a round of drinks then onto entrees of fish and chips, reuben and a Shepard pie. Outstanding meal. I started with a Magner's which is reason enough to try this place out ! Brody ordered the broiled (not fried) haddock and subbed a salad for the fries. I was all about the English Pub experience- Fish and chips all the way! I ordered a side of creamy dill salad dressing to replace the usually tartar sauce. Brody's sandwich and salad both came this red onion which was a great Add to my fish and chips. The creamy dill, haddock, fries and red onion made for a tasty bite. There was not a drop of food left on either of our plates! Great meal on a fun atmosphere on a Friday afternoon. Wow! This was a phenomenal stop, and I'm not just saying that because we drove in for business from 4 hours away! Being back at a Park Lane I, of course, reached for Magners, a phenomenal Irish cider that rarely available elsewhere. For lunch I had the seared Ahi Tuna. It came with delicious sliced ginger, wasabi, a bed of greens and peppers, as well as a spectacular, thick soy dipping sauce and tempura crunch straws. This was an ample portion for the price and I was not left wanting whatsoever. My guest had the Tavern Club, stacked high, and their first time trying avocado! They devoured half and some of the house made tavern chips and was left needing a box for the other half of this huge club. A cold night calls for a good burger, and PLT has never failed us. Tonight was no different. We were greeted as soon as we stepped inside. We went straight to the bar and took our places. My wife ordered a Cranberry Paloma. I took an Old Speckled Hen. When I came back from the bathroom, the drinks were already waiting. Adriana, the bartender, was friendly and sure of her craft. She mixed drinks the way a person does when they take pride in simple, honest work. I ordered the burger. My wife had the chicken salad. The burger was right--hot, steady, full of flavor. The salad looked light on chicken but heavy with bacon and a thick piece of cheese, which made up the distance. We had another round. Then we headed home through the chill, satisfied with the choice and certain we'd return. My mother and I were traveling from DC to Hampton Roads, so we stopped in Fredericksburg halfway for lunch since it was close to I-95. My mother had something from the Brunch menu, and I had the Corned Beef Sandwich thanks to the recommendation of our awesome waitress, Zoey. It did not disappoint, and I'm glad I listened. The corned beef was good, well-portioned, and a clean-to-eat sandwich that wasn't too heavy. Suffice it to say, the food and staff made it comfy and memorable. Zoey worked diligently and had the gift of gab in the best way. She knows how to get people to start talking and was attentive in the right way. I sort of wish they had pub music playing, but nonetheless I enjoyed their pop playlist. We had a most pleasant mid-Saturday afternoon lunch at Park Lane. Four plus stars. Above all, service was stellar. And you gotta appreciate the small finer touches like bringing out plenty of very high-quality napkins. For appetizers we ordered the Tavern Chips, Pickle Fries and Spinach and Artichoke chips. The Tavern Chips were okay, but they were billed on the menu as piled high with cheddar cheese, bacon, scallions, and BBQ sauce. Nah, not really, the toppings were sparse. The Pickle Fries were good and the dill dipping sauce was delicious. However, I didn't really like the tall kooky cone-shaped holder for the fries. It was too tall on the table to see what was down inside the cone. The Spinach Artichoke dip with pita wedges was quite good. For entrées we ordered the Monte Cristo, London Broil and fish and chips. When I saw the Monte Cristo sandwich, I wasn't sure what these ball-shaped things were. The sandwich slices got their curious shape from being tempura fried. Our friend said he loved it and would definitely order again. The London Broil, served with mashed potatoes, mushrooms and green beans was very good. When we asked for medium-rare, they were actually cooked medium-rare. The amount of mashed potatoes was skimpy, the size of an ice cream scoop. Still they were seasoned well and good. I loved the batter on the fish. Really, batter is better than breaded. I'm glad that it wasn't my entree though, because they were ale-battered. I really don't like anything beer-battered. And because beer-battered is so commonplace these days, I never seem to able to eat fish&chips or onion rings anymore. Hell, I think they even put beer in the pancakes at Original Pancake House. I've been here twice and I am hooked!! It's a British style pub with some traditional British fare including comfort food and desserts. The bar selection is also huge (beers, liquor, etc). Sandwiches were borderline cafeteria quality with my caramelized onions being effectively boiled with no browning whatsoever. One of our orders came with chips instead of fries, as stated on the menu, which was odd. Ahi tuna was fresh out of the fridge and overpriced for 5 tiny pieces with the most artificial wasabi (horseradish) they could find. Service was a bit slow with the waitress spilling food and a knife on my partner. Ambiance is interesting, though, it's a bit strange to have American football on in a supposedly European pub. Heading south for family and friends and our stopover brought us to Fredericksburg. We love local vibe, unique settings and non traditional or local cuisine. Now on to the food. Other restaurants have ruined me on Shepard's pie and this establishment corrected the wrongs! This light delicious mix of lamb, beef , carrots, peas and a fluffy layer of whipped potatoes were nothing like the heavy servings of others! Thank you! This table specifically has one large pillar holding salt/pepper and other fixings in the center of it. Literally no room...my friend--who was with me this day, and I were visibly upset. No room for appetizers and by the time our enteee came our table was crowded. No no. I ended up ordering the Cracked Pepper Steak, which came cooked exactly as I had asked (medium rare) and tasted great. My wife and I enjoy going to Irish pubs on St. Patrick's Day, and this fit the bill this year. And this review is more about our experience during this one meal, and not about what my future expectations might be. To start with, our server was bad. I won't go as far as terrible, because he wasn't rude or anything. He just wasn't any good. To start with, we ordered our standard St Pats beverages, and also asked for a water. We asked for that water 4 times before he finally brought them to us. And each time we asked, he acted like we had not already asked for them.....which we had, again and again. We also didn't realize it when he first came up to us, but he didn't tell us about all the St Pats specials they had for that day, which we heard another server sharing with a different table, well after we had ordered. So service, 1.5 stars at best. Now on the food, it was a tale of two paths. My wife ordered the tried and true fish n chips, and was very happy with her food. I on the other hand, decided to try something different and ordered a Tavern Monte Cristo. Never had one before, and never will again. Just a big grease ball, and you had to eat with a knife and fork. To put it under the menu category of a sandwich was a stretch. The fries however, were very good. We loved the restaurant and the atmosphere, and will definitely try it again, as I do really like Irish food. But next time, I'll stick to what I know....like bangers & mash or shepherd's pie. read more
