The weather definitely called for pub fare and 4P hit the spot on a rainy cold afternoon! We visited during happy hour so grabbed some appetizers and beers to start. Definitely recommend the Irish croquettes and potato skins. Note that you need to be seated in the bar area in order to enjoy the happy hour deals. Our friends come here very often and they invited us to try it for brunch last month. We really loved the food we had which was unique and affordable including the Steak, Mac, and Cheese and Breakfast Chili. One of the hosts had a noticeable Irish accent, and one of the main dining room attendants had an extremely thick one--he even mentioned he'd just arrived a month ago from a town about 20 minutes outside of Dublin. My in-laws trusted his food recommendations completely. The decor was also spot on: from the carpets and drapes to the artwork, it reminded me a lot of the times I've spent in Dublin. Very familiar and very well done. Service - While the host and the Irish attendant were excellent, our actual server fell short. She didn't seem to know much about the menu and couldn't give solid recommendations--even for basics like appetizers or desserts. She also forgot a couple of items and delivered others late, which definitely disrupted the overall dining experience. Wings & Tots - I had the dry-rubbed wings with sauce on the side and tater tots. The wings were solid--meaty, flavorful, and satisfying. I had eight and, while I wasn't starving, they were filling enough to be a complete meal. A strong, no-frills option. Why not 5 stars: The restaurant gets a lot right--from authentic food to Irish ambiance--but the subpar service from our main server took away from the experience. When service dips below average, it brings down the overall vibe. So, while everything else met or exceeded expectations, it's a 4-star visit for now. read more

I used to shop at the camera store across the street from this restaurant but the store is closed now... I was feeling like a burger and thirsty for something cold...so I go inside. It's super Sunday at lunch time and I thought, how busy can they be? Not busy at all. I grabbed a seat at the bar. They have Narraganset on tap. I have never seen this before so I order one. The menu has some definite Irish favorites. Bangers and mash. Shepherd's pie. I was in a burger mood so I order the all American burger with pepper jack cheese and no tomato. The beer is very good. I have had it in bottles but never on tap. Soccer matches on both big screens. It's fun to watch. I know nothing about teams, leagues, colors. It's still fun to watch Soccer has some very in shape players, like all muscle. My burger is out pretty quick and the beer is gone so I order another. I ordered medium well and that's how it arrives. The steak fries are crispy and hot. You'll need the ketchup for the burger and the fries. I am hungry so the food and second brew are gone pretty fast. I'll definitely will be back, I want to try some of the Irish fare on the menu. Definitely a place to visit for soccer matches. A word of caution. If you drive be careful where you park. The parking policy in some of the lots is predatory. Just look for the signs that are everywhere...no walk offs or whatever. A couple years ago I parked in a closed restaurant parking lot to go to the bank a block away. I watched my car go down the road. Wherever he was he was waiting for cars to tow. I am so upset. I went there during the FIFA games and who was handed a menu that had a Happy Hour price on it. I ordered based on that. When I got my bill, I was told oh no, not during the fight for games. I feel this was switch in invite and they should not have handed out and that said they were Happy Hour prices during the game. It is false advertising and totally wrong. I am so upset. It was considerably more and I ordered based on that freaking menu. If you are going to have an alternate for a special event -handout a menu that reflects the accurate prices. This is not OK. read more

We had my husband's 50th birthday party at Four Provinces yesterday. We had it at in the early evening for 45 people. The process from start to finish was easy and everyone I spoke to was so kind. I received advice on the menu and the best way to do the drinks. On the day of the event, I confirmed the details and we showed up ten minutes ahead of time to add some personal decorations. We had the slider package, mac and cheese, onion rings, artichoke dip, and baked potatoes. Everyone raved about the sliders (my dad's personal favorite was the reuben one - he had four). My mom, an onion ring fan, was very happy. There were only good things to say about the food. The bartenders were extremely attentive to the party and there was never a build up at the bar. They offered a cake hold. They brought it out when asked, had the candles lit, then whisked it back to cut it and bring it back out. If you need a lot of hand-holding, having all the perfect touches or a million options to pick from, or 'event planning' kind of help, this may not be your place. But if you want to have a chill, fun evening with lots of wonderful food and good drinks, great service, and a fun atmosphere, I would recommend Four Provinces. read more

Review for breakfast only. I've been here before for drinks and dinner and enjoyed it but breakfast is decidedly meh. Not awful by any means and not great, just meh and a little expensive for what you get. The pancakes were okay but the portion was smaller than at most breakfast places. The Irish bacon was tasty and was a large portion, FYI Irish bacon is more akin to Canadian bacon than to regular bacon so keep that in mind. The breakfast potatoes were likewise okay and seemed to be the frozen kind from the bag. The Irish coffee was really enjoyable and went well with my meal. Service was friendly and always good to have breakfast on the patio on a warm sunny day. The live music from time to time is also enjoyable and some of the artists will interact with the patrons making it more enjoyable. Only down side is sometime when the dining room is a little full, service takes a little longer for drinks/waters/server to come back and check in. This is our go-to restaurant when we are craving good Irish food. My favorites are the Corned Beef and Cabbage (with extra sauce - yum!), Potato Leek soup, and of course Guinness. Last time I had some mulled wine and that was very good as well. My husband usually has the Beef Stew, but we have also gotten Fish & Chips which are also delicious. I've come here a few times over the years and it just keeps getting better. My most recent trip had me surprised with how many new menu items they added which were fantastic. This spot was pretty busy for a Friday early dinner and I sat at the bar ordering to go. The bartender is super friendly and quick when it came to getting my order. I went with a jalapeño burger with tots and potato skins. They have some of the best potato skins around and they really load them up. The new burger was fantastic - even though I was full I was committed to finishing it. The jalapeños were large and the meat quality was fantastic. 4P's has been my favorite Irish pub for many years since being stationed to the area many years ago. A family friendly pub, like "Cheers" they remember you and welcome you with open arms. Post-COVID, the menu has expanded and the awesome Guinness burger is available all the time (it used to be available only during the weekend). Try it, and you too will be addicted. This place is a classic but original Irish pub. It's been around for years and know at one time they would be staffed by people from Ireland doing a stay in the area. No idea about that anymore and maybe someone knows more facts! The ambiance is fantastic- comfortable and welcoming to all including families. People generally socialize and visit. The menu is full of the traditional fare and salads and sandwiches/burgers. I've had many and it's always been well done. This visit was the traditional Reuben sandwich- delicious ! The corned beef is cooked perfectly and served with 2 types of mustards that go so well. The fries are delicious but nothing unusual or different- steak fries. We went for the Easter brunch buffet, which seems like a slightly varied version of their regular weekend brunch buffet. One of our favorite restaurants in Falls Church. The food is great, atmosphere is comfortable, clean and family friendly. The staff are always attentive and nice, and food comes out quickly. If I could give less than zero stars, I would. My husband was just asked to leave this establishment and I think it's because the server and owner don't like middle easterners. We reserved a 6 person table and when our party showed up, we were seated at a 4 person table. After we ordered our price fix entrees-- all six of us, a waiter came and told us that the owner said that we had to order from the prix fixed menu. We informed him that we had just ordered. He said, the owner said that each of you had to order. We stated that as we just told him, we all ordered from the price fix and not sure what the issue was. He told us to stop shooting the messenger and stop repeating ourselves after he continued to repeat to us that the owner sent him and told him to tell us that each of us had to order. I said, we'd be happy to tell the owner this ourselves then and he said "NO. You don't want to do that." My husband then said, conversation done- "leave us alone, our orders were taken." Yes- he said, leave us the F alone. And this waiter continued to bait us and cause a scene. He said he couldn't leave ...because they were now serving our food. SIX entrees. Now I understand why he did that- for a show. We all are adults, professionals, parents, love dining out and this server's behavior was beyond strange, abrupt and seemingly, ready to be confrontational. So, I can only assume that it was because half of us are middle eastern and an affront to the people at the 4 Ps. Anyway, in all of my life, I have never been asked to leave a restaurant until today-- upon the owner telling us that my husband had to leave, we all opted to leave and he told us to gather our things and go. I had come many times with the previous owner of the 4 Ps (this one and DC) who was always hospitable and gracious. This owner's response was that we should go see that previous owner at the Irish Inn at Glen Echo, which we have and we will continue to do so. They offer a true Irish, hospitable experience, open and welcoming to all. What a sad way to try to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. Very entitled waiter who was smirking at us when we left, along with a disappointing environment. To the owner, you were duped by your smug waiter. Or, perhaps you sent him over for the reason stated above. As you' can see by my many reviews, I love to celebrate great local restaurants and experiences. This was the absolute opposite of an even a palatable experience. Just awful. Also, I really hope that they didn't serve the plates that they quickly brought to our table, to other patrons. We'll continue to patronize the Irish Inn at Glen Echo, Celtic House, Bobby Van's, O'Donnell's and Murphy's. Super fun venues and great Irish food with superior service at these places.
