I'm very happy with the service. I pulled in and asked to replace the heater control valve on my 535i. They knew their stuff. Inspected the hoses, performed the coolant level checks, and put everything back together. Most importantly, they performed the repair on the spot. I got myself into a rut with the distributor on my boat. I am moored at Coyote Point Marina and the pin holding the distributor was stuck and so was I. I passed by E&J and stopped to see if I could pay for some assistance removing the pin. A gentleman named Joe asked to see what I was needing, he promptly took it from me and came back a few moments later with the pin removed. This very kind soul refused to accept payment and sent me on my way. I called up E & J because I had a nail in my tire. They said come in and they'd check it out. Couple of minutes later I pull into their shop. They look at it, pull the nail out, tested it for air leakage and said, "All good. It wasn't deep enough for puncture." I offered money for his troubles and he turned it down. Good, honest mechanic. I rarely give a one star because I think businesses need more than one chance to prove themselves. On auto repairs though, I think one time is enough to judge. I found this place on a local neighborhood site for recommended auto repair shops and boy do I have to reply to that recommendation too. First, I called the shop the day before asking if I may get my vehicle towed to his shop as it would not start, he told me it would be fine to do that. Mind you, never did he explain the possible problems or charges. I received a phone call from him the next day with his diagnosis of a bad fuel pump and quoted me $1,134. The fuel pump part itself was $567, according to Joe, the shop "manager" and the rest was labor..so he's telling me he was going to charge me another $567 for LABOR on my 2004 Mazda 3 with well over 230,000 miles on it. Give me a break Joe! I never thought I looked like a sucker, but yet again, we never met face to face. After getting other estimates from other respectable local shops they quoted me nothing over $700. And they told me the part was over $150 less than what the "manager" here quoted me. So after declining service to Joe and his shop he chuckled on the phone and said 'well you have to pay for labor' i then asked how much and after a long pause he said 'one hour' is $99. Just robbery! When I met him to pick up my car and pay the 'labor' I calmly mentioned that on his next customer experience he should mention the possibility of a 'labor' charge if we refuse the estimate of the repair, but no where on his blank facial expression was he taking any of this suggestion in. BOTTOM LINE: No good professionalism is going on here at E & J. OVER PRICED, DOES NOT MENTION POSSIBLE CHARGES AND CHUCKLES AT YOU WHEN YOU DECLINE SERVICE, oh and be careful, he tends to smoke near all his flammable chemicals around the shop...SHOP AROUND, I FOUND THERE ARE SO MUCH BETTER CHOICES OUT HERE IN SAN MATEO THAN E & J! read more

They had quoted $12 and upon picking up my car, the first employee says the cost would be $20. But in the background another employee (owner?) yells out $25!! I just wanted to pay and leave this "unfair' and unethical auto repair shop!! Please do not patronize and get unjustly treated!! read more

I had a flat tire and was referred to E & J by a friend, who was charged $10.00 to repair a flat. I called and was quoted $12.50 to $20.00. I brought the car to the shop and left it with Pete. I received a call from Joe a short while later stating that the car was ready. i went to pick it up and Pete told me it was $20.00. I gave Pete a $20.00 dollar bill and then out of the break room a voice said it was $25.00. No apology and no explanation. I believe Pete was embarrassed by what seemed to be a "bait and switch" maneuver. Driving home I heard a thump from the rear of the car and in checking the spare tire, it was put in the spare tire well, but not secured as it should have been. $25.00 no big deal. Bait and switch and lack of honesty, especially in an industry that is notorious for dishonesty is a big deal. I would use caution before using E & J for car repairs. read more

Joe is the man. Been going here since 2015 and proud to say this is my go to mechanic. Came here for multiple problems with my car. Once for a new alternator change, new brakes and to change the bearings for my tires. Gives me an ACCURATE estimate everytime. It's always within the price range of the estimate. I had other auto shops where they would try to hustle you, not here. Calls me and gives me updates on the phone throughout the day. Lost the clutch on my car on the way to work on the 101. First break Down ever. Cal trans towed me off the freeway and E&J was the closest repair shop. They called me back in the afternoon, they replaced the clutch slave cylinder, and the car was ready to be picked up!!!! I can't believe it. The price was good!! This update is for Joe and his team at E&J. Over the last 2 years they have only exceeded the expectations set by the previous owner (Elias) in terms of car repairs experience. Joe has saved us at least 2-3 times by identifying potential major breakdown on our old (but well maintained) vehicles when we went for regular oil change. I am shocked to see that no one has taken the time to write a review E & J Auto. We have been using Eli for servicing our cars for probably close to 10 years now. I stumbled upon him way back, when I needed to get my car smogged for my registration. He is the most honest, down to earth man in this business that we have ever had the good fortune of finding, He will always tell it like it is, never try to sell you a service or part that is not needed and always has given us great advise. Everyone we have ever sent to him has been extremely happy & is a long-term customer. For you dog lovers, his chocolate lab used to accompany him to work every day & greet his customers, but now Darla stays home to comfort their new rescue who has separation anxiety. This shop is the BEST in their trade. The owner - ELI is the most knowledgable mechanic I've experience in years, AND he treats his customers with the utmost respect. A very VERY 'customer service' oriented business with the 'smarts' to back up what they do. After nearly 25 years with another [longtime friend's] local shop - after being screwed - I changed to E & J a couple of years ago and I won't go anywhere else with our vehicles. They are fair and 'more than' competitive with their rates, and often doesn't charge for the 'petty' stuff. He knows how to keep his customers happy. We were referred here by a family friend, and what a great surprise. Beside being close to our home, Eli and his staff are very helpful and honest. If they can't fix it, they let you know. If they can, they call first with what they found, and advise if it's urgent or not, and how much it will be. They helped out tons trying to get our car smogged (they silly onboard computer wouldn't reset) and never charged us for the tests. Since i got that flat, I've had them do my brakes, fix a major problem in my radiator, check it out for other problems to which Joe was super honest and told me it wasn't a big deal. Everything I've gotten done there has been top notch and they know what they're talking about. BMW's are not cheap but these guys do great work and they are super honest. I have taken my car here 2 times now. the first time was great got the repair done promptly. the second time, well, im still waiting over a month now, for a part, come to find out it never got ordered. and its for a smog issue so it was time sensitive. when i tried to talk to the owner about the lack of customer service i received after waiting 2 weeks with not ONE call from him about a part that he said would take 3 days to 2 weeks to receive, all he said was it wasnt his fault and i was the one who miss understood, and how could he call every customer to tell them a part is delayed as he'd not be able to repair any cars, as well he said he could NOT call the supplier and ask about the part because once it is shipped there is no way to track it, its just "in transit". though apparently he CAN, because he finally did, and found out, after waiting a month, that it had never actually been ordered. now id have stayed with him if he had just called them 2 weeks ago when i complained about waiting 2 weeks for a part .... but now, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.... im outa here!! read more
