I thought I had a good relationship with Vinnie and Emilio for years, until I needed some basic troubleshooting done on a couple of jobs they performed (brakes, tire balancing, and alignment. Brakes made a funny noise they'd never heard before but ultimately it wasn't their fault, tires wound up having a manufacturing defect so not their fault either, and alignment they redid but the steering wheel was still off center while driving. So big picture - nothing out of this world in terms of expectations of their abilities to fix.) Instead, they call and tell me "It's not a good fit working with you." This is work they originally did, that I even offered to pay for it to be checked again, and they're now telling me "We're not working with you anymore. Find someone else." I would stay away from any mechanic that doesn't stand by the work they do. read more

If they tell you something is wrong with your car, there is actually something wrong. And they go the extra mile to help. I had a rattling noise coming from the front end of my vehicle and went to many auto repair shops in the neighborhood and they all gave me extravagant prices and diagnostics. I stopped by one day and mentioned my issue and Vinny said drop it off in the morning and I will let you know. He called back quickly and told me what the issue was and gave me a price. I also asked him to replace my transmission fluid and I had purchased the oil to do it myself and he said he would do it and charged me very reasonable. Emilio and Vinny are hands down the most fair and helpful mechanics i have ever used. When i moved to Ossining 12 years ago, they were the shop that was closest to home. My volkswagon had an issue that they couldnt figure out so they consulted with a VW shop, and then sent it to the shop after a few days of tinkering. They didnt charge me a dime for their work even though they had put plenty of hours into finding the problem. That was just one nicety that they have extended to me over the years. I've been going to E&L Automotive for a few years now, having found them right here on Yelp when I moved to the area from Brooklyn. I come from a family of automotive repair technicians, but since they all live too far to go to on a regular basis, I knew I had to find somewhere local that lived up to the standards that I was used to - not to mention, I have a 2007 Subaru Outback with over 220,000 miles, so inevitably, things come up. There has been something I've wanted to say for a long time but was never able to before..."I have a mechanic". Finally I have a mechanic, someone that I trust, that is fair and honest. I started using E&L a few years ago when I moved to Ossining when they were located on S. Highland. I didn't really do anything major with them just inspections. Now that my car is getting older, it needed some work. Before I went to see E&L I looked up online on the approximate cost of my repairs just to get an idea. E&L actually came in about 100$ less than what I thought for new brakes, inspection, and fixing my air conditioning. They do a great job and they are just really nice people. I can't tell you how many automotive places I've gone into where I just was creeped out or they were rude or they would talk to me like I'm an idiot because I'm a woman. Everyone at E&L always has taken the time to explain things to me and never makes me feel like an idiot when I don't know what something is. I'm so happy I found them and that they are so close by. After being referred to E & L Automotive and receiving a horrendous quote from the dealer to fix my brakes I decided to pull the trigger and give them a try. BOY WAS I GLAD I DID. Emilio and his team are fantastic. You know they care about your car as much as if it was their own, or better yet, their child's car. I am new in the area and needed a new mechanic. My car needed an inspection so I thought I would try E a me Lsince they were local. He found something wrong with the sway link bar and told me it would not pass inspection. I checked with my old mechanic And he said this was not so it needed to be replaced at some point but it should pass inspection and I did verify it with another mechanic. And also wanted to charge me $100 more than the going price -I checked with other mechanics in the area. I did tell him that I was looking for a new mechanic but he did not seem to want my business. read more

I have a 2004 Prius and after the warranty expired, I knew I wanted to leave the dealership, but I didn't know where to go. Some friends referred me to Emilio when he was on S Highland Avenue and he's been taking good care of me & my Prius ever since. That's 8 years that I'm confident he's keeping me safe and charging me fairly. I'm writing the review because he went over the top the other day. I got caught in that huge rain we had and going through a flooded area, it knocked my mud guard down & it was dragging on the ground. Emilio fixed it and also fixed another part of a different bumper that was sticking out in a funny way since I had backed into something years ago. That funny angle of the back bumper was bugging me for the longest time. I'd asked others to fix it, but it never happened. Or they "fixed it" and then a day later it was sticking out again. Emilio told me he found a couple of screws & held it in place from the inside so I couldn't see it. Viola! done. On top of that, he wouldn't let me pay him for those fixes, even though they had the car up on the lift for about an hour. You better get over there. read more

If you have patience to read this review, you will understand why I am so angry about E & L Automotive. As a foreigner, this is my worst experience in the United States. I have a 2006 Volkswagen Passat which was repaired by E&L a month ago since my car's check engine light was on. However, the check engine light was on again in the last week. So my wife drove back to ask them check whether it was the same problem. They then told her that the problem was different, and asked a fairly high price to fix this "new" problem. When she planned to leave and double check the problem by some other auto repair shops, Emilio, the owner of E&L, told my wife that she cannot drive the car away unless she paid off more than $100 dollars "inspection fee". To me, this is a nasty robbery. After all, when the same issue (check engine light) repeats within one month, it is very natural to ask the one who claimed to have fixed this problem to check whether it is the same problem. Also, when my wife drove the car to E&L, they never told her that she would be charged for checking. Everything has changed when my wife told them that she decided not to fix the car in their shop. After I came to E&L this afternoon, Emilio also warned us that if we don't pay off immediately and drive the car away, they will keep on charging us $60 storage fee per day. At last, we had to pay them more than $100 dollars for completely nothing. As a foreigner, this is my worst experience in the United States. I don't know how E&L guys treat native customers, but my own experience suggests that they are not honest and trustable. Shame on them!!! read more

Took my vehicle to them with a laundry list of things to be done, big and small. I left the car with them for a week to get it all done while I was out of town, and they delivered on time. I had assumed I would need to go to a different shop to get the body work done, but no. they have sister company, Tino's, who will do the work while I was away as well. So I figured i'd have two separate bills, or have to pick it up at a different location, or.... but no. One bill, all through E&L. Unfortunately, as soon as I arrived home after picking up the car, I couldn't open the driver side door! So something they monkeyed with in the door had broken my ability to open it (or rather unlock it). I called them immediately and they actually sent someone to my home to fix it in my driveway because they were about to close. unheard of. The only gripe I have is that one of the things I needed done would involve extensive labor and they refused to do it. They said if I couldn't find someone to do it immediately, to bring it back to them in the fall when it's slower. Is it because there are so few mechanics they need to free them up to service other customers and keep them coming back? Not sure, but now I'm looking for another place to handle this one last thing. But given the above comments, still not enough to make me reduce the rating. At least they were candid with me. read more
