Today my car was making a weird sound, and they were able to squeeze me in and sort it immediately. (Some clip had rusted and needed replacing.) My car was making a burning rubber smell when it ran and I brought it to Cappello's suspecting it was coming from my serpentine belt. The guys thoroughly troubleshot the issue: they drove it and figured that it was actually coming from an oil leak. They power-washed the engine bay, drove it some more, and determined the exact source of the leak. They gave everything another look and after finding engine gunk determined that the car probably didn't have the most regular oil changes in its past. (In my defense, it was a used car - I'm an every-5,000-miles kind of guy). This also surprised me, since the car had been to a certain 3-letter luxury car dealership twice in the last year and this leak was never discovered. The next day, the issue was fixed, all fluids topped-off, and I was on my way. The guys stayed open late so I could pick up my car and explained all of the work that was done; no shady up-sell. I've been to many mechanics over the years - national chains, "quick lubes", luxury dealerships, domestic dealerships, "discount" tire shops all around the country. This place is, by far, the most thorough, honest, and professional place I've ever been - I felt like I was personally being attended to. read more

SO GRATEFUL FOR HONEST MECHANICS!! Joe was recommended to me after I got a 98 Cherokee xj for my daughters first car. Needless to say, it needed work and Joe was top notch. He was so fair and thorough with everything. Since it's an older car, he only fixed what really needed it, and managed to get after market/used parts for cosmetics so that it didn't cost a fortune. He took care of this car as if it were his own daughter's car and he was paying the bill. The amount of consideration from owner to customer is overwhelming. He even calls us an hr or so later to make sure we got home ok. Literally just texted him to see how to work the 4wd for the years first snow and he called me back to go through it STEP BY STEP. No one does this. This is truly a family owned business and they treat as if you're an extension of it. They don't swindle you or confuse you with car talk. They're honest, fair, and welcoming. This company used to handle the towing in my development towing illegally parked people or if someone parked in your spot you could call and have them towed. I had two major issues with them: The First Incident: Cappello's towed my car for no reason whatsoever. The deal is unless someone calls to say "hey there is a car in my spot, please tow." the towing company is not supposed to tow out of a spot, only someone parked in the visitor lot without a pass or someone parked illegally. I went down to my car to get something at about 10 pm and realized my car was gone out of my spot. I first called Cappello's to see if it was towed, they told me no that they didn't tow anything that night. I panicked and thought my car was stolen so I called the Ossining police dept. I have lojack on my car so they ran it...guess where it was Cappello's....I was so mad. When I went to go pick it up, they wanted me to pay to pick it up after they had towed it for no reason and then lied about it. I called the police back and they helped me get my car back without having to pay a fee. Second Incident: Someone was parked in my spot that wasn't supposed to be. I called Cappello's to get them to tow, they told me they were too busy and it would have to wait. My building had a contract with them. They are supposed to come within 1 hour of you calling them. I called my management company who then called Cappello's. The rep from my management company said they would be there in 1-2 hours and they told me to park in a spot they knew was not being used (the super's second spot). They did eventually come later when I was sleeping. They towed both me because they thought I was illegally parked and the person parked in my spot. I had to deal with them all over again and because I had a big meeting I paid them the money (which my management company then refunded me) to pick up my car. I wrote a letter to my board and a month later my board sent out a letter to everyone in the building "Due to the overwhelming number of complaints about Cappello's towing we have changed vendors." Good riddance. Just based on those two experiences I would never give my business to them. read more

I have been going there for the past 10 years or so, and I log a ton of miles in my profession. They are always polite, they always keep their word on timelines, and their work is reliable. They answer their phone. You never spend a long time in the waiting area. I never get the feeling that I am being "upsold"- if I brought my car in for new tires and they tell me I need new break pads for instance, they show me, right on the car, what they see and why they recommend new pads. They have done all sorts of work for me- oil changes, new breaks, new tires, inspections, you name it. Big and little fixes. I've been going to Cappello's for about 4-5 years now. First with my BMW and now for my Honda. I started going to them primarily once I saw how honest they were with repairs needed immediately versus repairs that could wait and also repairs that weren't really needed(as some other shop said I needed). They've always taken very good care of my vehicles and even not charged for a minor repair here and there when dealing with other major ones. And most recently when I dropped my car off due to some grinding near my wheel I began hearing while driving. Just got towed by Cappello's and they were wonderful. They were there Way faster than the estimation of arrival, and were extremely professional and friendly. Mechanic saw I was towing a long distance and offered to do the work right away locally. I voiced that it was me using my regular mechanic, and he respectfully towed me the extra distance to my normal guys. Joe took really good care of me when my car broke down unexpectedly about a half hour into a road trip weekend with my friend. He was short staffed and I think was initially concerned he would not have the resources to help us, but he could hear how upset I was and told us he would take care of it. He kept me updated as they looked at my car, confirmed pricing for me (which was reasonable), and arranged it so I could pick up the car even when his shop was closed. He even called me the following week to make sure all was well and make sure we had made it home ok. read more

I had a disappointing experience here when brought my new car in for it's first oil change. As most new cars require synthetic oil which you only have to change every 5,000 miles, they put regular oil in despite the type of required oil being right there on the oil cap. However, the owners are nice and I hear they're fair but if their staff keeps overlooking standard details, who knows what one can forget to do next time? read more

I had an incident with them on the road. A flat bad driver ran a red light and then proceeded to drive in the middle of 2 lanes so that I couldn't pass him. He was break checking me, he would signal that he was turning left, get into the left hand turn lane and then as I tried to pass him would cut me off and break check me again. I decided to go into the store the next day to talk to a manager. I had a very calm discussion with him, he apologized, and then the driver of the flat bed came out. I guess that he's one of those people that gets angry when someone calls him out on something he did wrong. He was yelling, screaming, cursing, stepping towards me like he was going to hit me. I cannot believe that anyone can think that acting like that is appropriate in any setting. I have heard terrible things about them to begin with, but now, I wouldn't go there if someone paid me. They have no place being in business. Just stay away from them... I mean, if you tell them they didn't do something right, they may threaten to hit you. UPDATE: What is your response to running a red light and not letting me pass? There are two lanes in that area of Ossining for a reason, so you can pass someone going slower then you, not for a truck to drive in the middle of two lanes. And if I was "speeding" I suppose that means you were as well, since you didn't allow me to pass. PS- I'm well aware of my gender, thank you. read more

I had a very positive experience with this place. We had broken down on a major highway about an hour from home, at night, in a downpour. Being stranded on the side of a highway on a rainy night is not so fun! Cappello's was the tow company sent by my roadside assistance service. They towed the minivan to their place, we took a car service home. When I called the next morning, I was fully expecting that they would try to rip me off. However, they diagnosed one relatively inexpensive problem and told me that my wiper blades were bad (which is true) and I had a couple of bulbs out. The total repair cost with tax was about $350. It was ready by afternoon, and they were polite. I have no complaints. read more

I think this is a great shop. I've gone here before, but most recently to get new tires among other things for a 1,600 mile road trip I'll be making soon. More expensive tires does not always = better. I really appreciated that they were very knowledgeable and honest about this. After they explained my options, (instead of just selling me the most expensive ones like some other places) the tires I got are better wearing than the ones I had- AND they saved me quite a bit of money. They do reliable work, and don't tell you that you need something when you don't. Great service, very friendly, your car is ready when they promise, and convenient Saturday hours. I have been going to Cappello's for over 20 years. Tony and his son, Joe, who manages now since Tony retired, have always provided the best of care and service. They provide lifts to and from my home. They have provided me with their own cars to use free of charge when needed. Repairs have been made with everything explained and all questions answered. I trust them fully and have gone through 4 cars with them. Recently, I needed to drive to California with my 11 year old car with over 155,000 miles. Joe pointed out that I needed new tires, a new radiator (it had been leaking and was cracked), and a number of other parts and services. It took them a day to fix the car. I drove it completely loaded down with stuff and it flew across country. Absolutely no problem with the car. Thank you, Cappellos! read more

I came in recently for a problem with my 2004 Buick LeSabre- the engine was misfiring and leading to lack of power. It was so bad that I couldn't start my car one morning and was towed in (they are a AAA mechanic). Joe was the gentleman I spoke with and he told me that him and his guys would figure it out and take care of it. Long story short, after exhausting every possible option- and then some- they fixed a part which I saw after the fact was priced correctly and charged me 2 hours labor even though I was waiting for 6 hours. Their honestly was greatly appreciated with this. Joe updated and educated me on every step of the process at least once an hour and was very comforting. He honestly advised me that the fix may just be a band aid on the problem and that I could still experience trouble. When I did experience trouble a week later, Joe told me to come on by and took another 2 hour look at it free of charge and eventually we took care of the issue. Joe and the guys at Cappello's care about customer service and provide some of the best I have ever experienced in the auto industry. Their customers are like family- I know because I saw it in practice for 8 hours while sitting in their waiting room and now I feel like family. Joe even offered to drive me back home after dropping my car off on multiple occasions. As long as I live in the area, I won't take my car anywhere else. read more

These guys are flat out liars. I don't know how they are with auto repair, BUT DO NOT EVER USE THEM FOR TOWING!!! They will lie and tell you they will be there in 20 minutes. They told me that about 5 times in a row and kept me waiting 2 1/2 hours. Unapologetic, and then told me there were closer call and took them first, but only after they picked up my car. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. My car was brought in by AAA and when they finally "repaired" it the check engine light went on within 20 miles, when the car had no previous problem with the check engine light. I brought it back and they claimed it was repaired again, but the check engine light went on AND my car wreaked of gas. They said I needed a new fuel pump but i didn't trust them so I brought it to a different garage. The whole problem was that they improperly sealed one thing on my gas tank and were just trying to scam me out of more money. My car hasn't had a problem since it was fixed properly. read more

I've been going to this repair shop for years. However, after a recent incident involving disregard for my vehicle, I will be taking my business elsewhere...it almost cost me my life. I always thought Joe had my best interest, but clearly they're in the business of making money. Anytime I came in for an oil change, he would always recommend things that needed to be fixed. It was always my choice to fix it or not. What I have issues with is if a customer orders a tune up, and you fix everything but the brakes, and after charging a huge amount of money, you tell them to come back and fix the brakes, then you put that driver as well as other drivers on the road at risk. This is a matter of doing the right thing. Some items in a car can wait to be fixed, but other things should take priority, brakes being one of them. My brakes didn't stop two weeks after getting a tune up and ended up crashing into another car. Had he fixed the brakes, this incident could have been avoided. In no way am I blaming this establishment for my accident. I am however questioning their business practices in how they prioritize their car repairs. People want their cars in good working order for the safety of themselves as well as others. We know it's expensive, but are willing to pay to have a working car. We will continue to patronize your business if you treat us fairly. I think I was taken advantage of by this business and warn you to consider other establishments. read more

Had used this shop because it was so close to home. Found the staff rude and condescending, had a water pump issue and had it replaced, it soon failed. I wanted to see the part to see if it had been a new part and they said they didn't have it to give me..hmmm I had rear breaks replaced that weren't aligned properly, as soon as I reached 40 mph the car began to shake badly. the last straw was when I'd taken my car to them for an inspection when my wife picked it up she noticed a huge dent under one of the brackets of the roof rack, when she brought this to the attention of joe he became enraged grabbed a hydraulic jack and through it across the garage bay as he screamed at cursed at her, she called me terrified when i arrived joe immediately got up in face saying the car came in with the dent and we were just trying to get over on him. His father came out and was able to calm him down some what. Joe said he'd take the car to "his guy in peekskill " and have it repaired for 150-200$ No thanks joe we are through with you, see you in court. While getting repair estimates from local body shops it seemed everyone had a story about these guys. One shop owner told me he had brought a customers car to them for minor repair after he had completed body work on it. When he picked it up there were two dents on the front of the hood right were one would put there hands to close the hood. Joe had denied the damage. Another local bodyshop told me they used to share a space with Cappello but he was such a hot head they had to part ways. when I went to the police for advice they weren't surprised and I was told that there are officers who have had problems with them as well. Cappelo claimed that my ten month old battery (Interstate brand, drained by erratic alarm) couldn't be recharged and had to be replaced. I was billed $193.00. I had to give in as otherwise they would've charged me $35.00 / day storage fee. read more

took my car for inspection and oil change as I did in the prior year. They called to say it needed a cabin filter because it was very dirty and some washer fluid. Ask me if I had washer fluid at home, if not they would add some. Isn't adding necessary washer fluid pretty standard when getting an oil change anywhere. So bigger issue came when we told the guy we did not want the cabin filter replaced. My husband said hr would replace it that afternoon. After picking up my car and buying the cabin filter, husband opened the glove box only to find the glove box damper assembly lying on top of the paperwork in the glove box. They had broken the assembly when removing it to check the filter. My husband and I immediately went back to Cappello's to have them fix the issue. the manager asked the mechanic to come out to our car and ask him if he broke the assembly which he denied. he said he did check the filter behind the glove box but could not explain why it was now broken. the manager offered to fix it with epoxy glue!! i could not believe what i was hearing. so after the mechanic not taking ownership for his obvious mistake and the manager's attitude (he literally said we do not need your business), we will never be returning there again. On Saturday morning my car "died". I wanted to have my car towed to the dealer service, since it is still under extended warranty. Towers convinced me that I will be better of if they tow my car into their car shop, somebody can check it there right the way and if fixing is simple, I could have my car done the same day and could drive it over the weekend. After all I agreed. Nobody called, and when I called the shop everybody was gone but one person, who after brief search told me that my radiator went bad. I've got different tower ready to tow my car Monday morning from Ossining to Cortland. Monday early morning the shop called, that they are ready to start working on my car. When I explained how my car got there and the car is under warranty and I want to tow it to the dealer (I am frequent customer there for last 5 years) .The man said no problem, but he will charge me for storage over the weekend and additional towing and he will call me back. When I called him back, he said, that my car will be towed to the dealer within one hour and no charges will be applied. Exactly like that happened. Our little bit bumpy start took happy end and for that I am giving them 5 stars. read more
