Sometimes the Greatest Blessings Arrive Carrying a Ladder…read more Life has a way of knocking you to your knees. Over the past several weeks, my wife Becky and I have been living through one of those seasons. After a biopsy, she received news no one ever wants to hear. With her family history, we always knew that "someday" might become "today," nothing truly prepares you for the moment it actually does. Suddenly your calendar fills with surgeons, scans, difficult decisions, and words like bilateral mastectomy. During times like these, home repairs become the last thing on your mind. For quite some time our screened patio had been in desperate need of repair. Every torn screen seemed to invite every mosquito in Pinellas County to dinner. We wanted to fix it, but life simply had bigger priorities. Then something happened that I'll never forget. Joshua Murphy, along with his wife Ruth and the wonderful people at Murphy's Aluminum & Rescreens, heard about what we were facing. They didn't send a "Get Well" card. They didn't simply say, "We're praying for you." They showed up. Without fanfare. Without expecting recognition. Without making the day about themselves. They transformed our worn-out patio into something beautiful again. There is an old saying that people don't always remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel. Long after these new screens eventually wear out--and someday they will--I will always remember the kindness behind them. In a world where many businesses are measured by estimates, invoices, and profit margins, Murphy's Aluminum & Rescreens reminded us that the greatest companies are measured by something entirely different: Character. Anyone can install aluminum. Anyone can replace screens. Not everyone can restore hope. Joshua and Ruth Murphy, thank you for reminding Becky and me that God still sends people into our lives at exactly the right time. Your generosity turned an ordinary home repair into an extraordinary act of compassion that we will never forget. If you're looking for someone to build or repair your pool enclosure, lanai, screen room, pergola, soffit, fascia, railing, or virtually anything aluminum-related, don't just hire Murphy's Aluminum & Rescreens because they do excellent work. Hire them because they're excellent people. In today's world, that's becoming harder and harder to find.

I requested the front of my house not enclosing my front door and one on the side of the house where its not so visible. Instead they enclosed the front of my door. The owner's son initial came out and wrote an estimate on his lab top in the amount of $4200 and told me I have to pay half down today and 1/2 once completed. The son and I went outside wherein he showed a display of the screen and how it work. He failed to go over the estimate after he typed it. He failed to tell me about any discounts, in which the company was advertising the discounts. and the lady that answers phone has already advised me about the discounts, including senior citizens discounts. The installer came again and remove the front screen and took it back to the shop. The installer came back the following day with the same screen, however, they cut the same screen and install in, not including the front door. however, the ends was raveling, discoloration and still uneven. The installer called the office and told them that I need to pay the other half. in which i written a 2nd check for the balance. Now each time the installer came I was inside the house doing my house work. in which I should have stayed outside to watch them work. Now most of the contact with this company was by emails. Well I received a email from the owner stating that he was going to put a lien on my house because I did not pay the 2nd half. This really upset me, especially my bank account showed they had cashed both of the checks with in 2 days. Well after they installed the screen for the 3rd time and it still was uneven, I called the office and advised their office to come out and take it down because it was uneven again and discoloration. Also, where they cut the screen it was really shedding at this point. Now my house is on a busy street and I had people, friends and family members come by and said your screens is uneven. Also, once they removed the screen you can see how uneven the screen was, because of the black marker they had drawn across the house. I had holes in the walls. I relayed all my concerns to the company, tried to tell me my house was uneven. I took pictures and they showed same I then asked for reimbursement minus $1000.00 in which i thought was high for keeping small one that on the side of the house. However, I received a email from the owner stating that they are not going to reimbursement. Also, delay is one of their tactics. As of this day, its over 6 months ago and I do not have a screen nor any reimbursement.

It's been now 3 months without any form of communication from this business. They went ghost silent. I've since disputed the charge against my credit card and am having to figure something else out. Regardless, Ron L.'s professional approach at this stage led me to select them for the job, and I did. They sent an email on Thursday that read, "Great news, we'll be on your job tomorrow." Okay...that works. And then a crew showed up completely unannounced at my home that evening at 6:30 because they were there to measure the job. Umm...didn't the "office" send you the specs? No...that's why we're here. Okay, strike one, and I sent a message to Ron and another company representative, and crickets.... The crew came back on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to do the job. It's a good thing I didn't intend to use my backyard space for what should have been a one-day event (according to Ron L. and every other screening company I spoke with). And then the crew left on Sunday. No notice, no final report, no review with the customer...just drove off. Then I checked out the work and found that they ran the screening from one side of the lanai to the other. Had Ron L. bothered with any quality checks, that may not have happened. But they didn't, so now I had to address it, and I did. The crew made excuses and said that's how they did "rescreens." The same crew came back out the next weekend, fixed the problem that I (not the company) found, and again...drove off with zero notification. Then, 2 weeks later, I received the final invoice. So, of course, I asked the question again. How do I know the work was done to any kind of standard? So far, I have had to address every issue with the company and its crew. Here I go again, and I contacted the company. Only then did someone who said they were the project manager reach out to me directly (first time) to address my concerns. It's at this point that I told the individual (I'll leave your name out of it, but you know who you are) that I was disappointed in the company's ability to communicate to me what was going on. Of course, I again addressed the crew's attempt to shortcut the job, and the response I got was "they're lazy." So here we have a project manager (who doesn't know what it means to manage a project) who is diming out their work crews. They're only lazy because you are an ineffective manager. They offered an apology and only then said they would come out to review the crew's work and thus do their JOB. I offered my comments as constructive feedback and asked if they were willing to offer any additional concessions (other than an apology and acknowledgement that they need to do better). The response I got was that the work was done. Okay, fair point...but I had to do YOUR job and inspect the work. Ron L. has a terrific reputation for building cages, and I will likely use them again if I ever need a new one or a rebuild...but I simply can't trust them to do my screens, especially when they hire out subcontractors and don't follow up on the work. They lied to me and tried to deceive me. I can hope they can figure out how to transition their build expertise into their larger business plan, and remember that the customer (read the one who is paying the bills) should be your primary focus.
