I realized they were still open, so I decided to give them a try. I'm so glad I did! From the moment I walked in, the owners' genuine Southern hospitality made me feel welcome. The fish was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The greens were flavorful, and the fried corn was on point. The only thing that could have made my plate even better was a piece of cornbread! Oh... the homemade tartar sauce was delicious. My daughter ordered the Polish sausage with fries, and my "man child" went with the chicken tenders and fries. Everything was cooked fresh to order, and they cleaned their plates, which says a lot. Great food, friendly owner, and top tier- excellent service. This is an interesting place. On a quiet street with gorgeous green space across the street. Peaceful. The staff is very friendly. This is not fast food, so don't expect your food to appear in five minutes! The only seating is outdoors on a makeshift patio, so I decided to take my food to go. I ordered breakfast, and I thought the food was fine. Not fantastic -- not bad. Just middle of the road. There's not much parking, but parking in the Methodist Church lot next door is surely fine. (I can't imagine the church towing you!) I would stop again if I were close by, had plenty of time, and wanted food to go. read more

The food was mediocre in my opinion. The fried chicken was decent. The fried green tomato's were okay and the greens were pretty mid. The red beans and rice wasn't my favorite, honestly tasted a little soapy. The oxtail flavor was great but the texture was a mushy and the gravy was very oily. The sweet potatoes were syrupy which may suit some but not for me. The cabbage was the best item ordered. The Mac and cheese was a no for me as well. Just not something I'd get again. The service was great very friendly staff. The establishment isn't pleasing to the eye but gives a very homey feeling of Sunday at Grannys. Overall not a bad experience. Wow... Scott found this hole in the wall place on a whim while we were visiting Madison Alabama. This place is absolutely amazing. It's a tony little yellow building that looks like a small house. They have a cute little screened in patio to enjoy your food in. Let me just say. I ordered the lemon pepper cat fish, fried green tomatoes and potato salad. Everything was off the hook delicious. Cat fish is fried to perfection and amazing flavor. Fried green tomatoes were light and crispy and potato salad had tons of flavor! Wanted some southern food and decided to give this place a try after finding on Yelp. I thought my GPS was leading me wrong as I entered a neighborhood area. It was correct. Very small quant place, but did have parking. The service was great and I was greeted as I walked in. I asked a few questions and then ordered. I was told that my fried fish was cooked to order. I thought that was good to ensure freshness. I waited in my car, and was summoned that it was ready. The food was good, but a bit pricey for lunch $25. We arrive 10 minutes after closed but they were so good to fill up a couple to go container with what they had left plus sides. We got baked chicken and ribs and they were delicious! They let us sit on the outside porch to eat and we met Nate, the owner and chef and he made us feel so welcome. It felt like a true southern dining experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Decided to go by there today with the wife to pick up some good soul food and was not disappointed at all. The proprietors were super friendly. The meals are cooked to order and at every fresh. I wasn't expecting much on a Sunday at 2 pm and the food was like rush fresh. My wife got the fried chicken breast, mixed greens, and cabbage. I got the ox tail plate with yams and dirty rice. Made the drive out to E & N to try it yesterday, after it being on my list for a long time. It is SO worth the trip. E & N stands for Emma and Nathaniel, the husband-wife team who run the place. It's in a building that looks like a house, really. Not much room to sit indoors; you order at the counter and carry out or sit on the patio. The menu is fairly large and offers a variety of mostly Southern/soul, American, and NOLA-inspired fair. Normally I'm suspicious of places with big menus, but after trying all that I did at E & N, I truly doubt there's anything worse than good on the menu. Mr. Nathaniel was working this afternoon. He cooks all the food you order fresh, so call your order in or be prepared for him to take around 15 minutes to fry it up. He's warm, welcoming, and very pleasant. I ordered the fried chicken breast with Mac and cheese and yams. My mom had country fried steak, fried green tomatoes, and mac and cheese, while my dad also chose country fried steak but opted for collard greens and fried okra. We had Texas toast and hot water cornbread for our breads. Plates vary in price depending on what meat you get, but all come with two sides, bread, and a can of soda. No sweet tea here, as far as I can tell, which was a bummer for me. They do offer both Coke and Pepsi products, though! We ordered caramel cake for dessert, but Mr. Nathaniel misheard our order and accidentally sold it to another customer while we were waiting outside. He was VERY apologetic and let us all try a bite of vanilla pound cake to make up for it -- it was good. We decided to try something else, though, so we got a slice of pecan pie to go. The price is maybe a little on the high side; around 40 bucks for our three meals, drinks, and dessert, all of which were served in styrofoam and we picked up at the counter. That being said, portions are MASSIVE and each plate could easily be two meals. Pretty much everything was delicious. Standouts were the macaroni and cheese, collards, hot water cornbread, and fried green tomatoes. Hot water cornbread, we learned, is a corn cake cooked on a griddle. Really crispy and somewhat different taste than regular cornbread. Country fried steak was pounded fairly thin and was good and crispy, and the breading on the chicken was super flavorful. My parents thought a few things were just the tiniest bit too salty, but I didn't think any of it was. The pecan pie I ate later at home was also really good. Not quite as good as my mom's...but very good. Cured a craving I'd had for a long while! The best part of the experience, though, was that Mr. Nathaniel came out to hang out with us after the customers died down. We loved hearing about his restaurant, his time in New Orleans before starting anew after Katrina, and all the delicious food he's learned how to cook over the years. This is truly a family owned and operated restaurant, and Nathaniel and Emma put out some really delicious food. My family and I were searching for a great soul food restaurant to cater our Mother's Day weekend celebration. Thankfully E&N was highly recommended, and Mr. Nathaniel was able to provide the catering for us. He did not disappoint. The food tasted like it was right out of your Grandma's kitchen, just amazing. My Mom was overjoyed in fact she said to not bring her anymore soul food unless it's from E&N. We ordered an assortment of food including fried and baked chicken, fall off the bone ribs, whole catfish and pork chops. The meats were healthy sized and seasoned perfectly. Compared to other soul food restaurants, E&N showed up and showed out. Our sides were collard greens, mac & cheese, okra, yams, red beans & rice, hush puppies, fried green tomatoes and cornbread. The sides were all amazing but high praise for the best fried green tomatoes in the south, just imagine the other sides... awesome. My kids don't eat collard greens or yams but they ate those, and my 11-year-old daughter kept asking for the okra. Mr. Nathaniel was very easy to work with, organized and kept to his price point. I would definitely come back for more. Did I mention the whole catfish, fried chicken and pork chops.... mouthwatering? If you get the red beans and rice ask for a double helping, you will not regret it. But really, exceptional food and service. When I saw this place it didn't look like much but I had a feeling it'd be good. I got the catfish filet sandwich with coleslaw and some hot sauce and drove down to the river to eat by the water. It's doesn't get more down home, small town than this. With the first bite I was transported back to a catfish fry I experienced as a kid on the 4th of July. I ordered crab caked, greens & okra (when in Rome, right?), and they included hot water cornbread. I struggle with REASONABLE portions in the South. I couldn't finish it. Not the cornbread BECAUSE I had to save room for a slice of their lemon cake! It's all carry out, and I took it down to the river and watched people fish in the rain. I heard about this place on Yelp and I am a sucker for hole-in-the-wall places so I stopped by after work. E&N is located in a small town on the Tennessee River called Triana. The small building seats about 4 people inside and about 12 in an attached screened-in porch. A paper menu is available with a few specials posted on the wall. The owner was very friendly and greeted me. I told him this was my first visit and he gave me several side dishes to try. I ordered the Catfish filet plate with baked beans, fries, and hush puppies. The catfish was was good with a thick crust. The baked beans had ham and some brown sugar and were very good. The fries and hush puppies were good too. The most disappointing thing was he told me that he changes his prices and sometimes they are higher and sometimes lower. He emphasized they don't match the menu. I noticed that the specials posted on the board didn't have prices. So I am not sure how he decides his prices, but I don't care for "variable pricing". This place with surprise you. This is a homey hole in the wall with amazing collard greens, catfish filet, and the best okra you can get. All perfectly cooked. I like the personality of the staff... this infectious happiness that can only come from great food. The establishment is by no means elegant. If you're a snotty person then this isn't the place for you. But if you come for the food and the love put into it, you will get your money's worth. Heads up if you order, you need to be okay with a wait of around 10 minutes, which is enough time to wind down so you can enjoy the food, which I inhaled. Hello fellow Yelpers!!! So my husband & I just moved from Arizona to Alabama late last night from a 25 1/2 Drive. Needless to say I wasn't cooking. So for lunch today I wanted to check out what Yelp had for me today. Food this place & we love TRUE Southern Food. So let's see what E & N was about. I was greeted by Nathaniel (the Owner) & I asked what's good. He jokingly said "you shouldn't ask me, I'd say everything. So I continued reviewing the menu. He comes back with a sample of his wife's Cole slaw. It was wonderful. There were so many sides on the menu. His menu is representative of living in New Orleans (NOLA). So I selected the 2 item combo of Fried Catfish & Crab Cake with Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese and added fried okra hush puppies. While I was waiting for the food to cook he provided a sampling of baked beans & a hush puppies. AMAZING. There was soooo many things I wanted to order...but only so much 1 can eat. While there, another customer came in to pick up her order & she had ribs. Those looked amazing as well! So how was the food you ask. OH MY GOODNESS.... we ate it all. The crab cake fresh, the catfish was the best I have ever had. The sides were delicious....BUT let me tell you about the Cocktail Sauce.... it was Money!!! I put it on everything. He should bottle that baby up & sell it for sure!!! I will definitely be back & bring my husband as I know Nathaniel & my husband will have great conversations about Louisiana!!! Moved to AL from CA and I'd been really disappointed in the food we were finding. Welp E&N to the rescue! This is by far some of the best soul food I've EVER had, with excellent service that makes you feel at home! I've been homesick and never thought I'd feel so welcome at a restaurant! The baked beans Mrs. Emma cooks will have you thanking God I mean they are seriously addictive, my cousin got an order to go! The crabcake had no fillers, filled with white meat you can see it sticking out! Fish and pork chop were seasoned and fried perfectly, and the pork chop was thick, not 1 cut in half like most places. My cousin said that the fried green tomatoes were the best and he's had them all over the south. What really made me happy was the meat needed nothing extra, no hot sauce, tartar or ketchup! Now you know food is good when it needs no sauce. I usually only eat my mom's potato salad but took a chance and it was spot on! We also got a sample of cabbage from Mr. Nate and it was really yummy to! The hushpuppies and hotcake were fresh delicious, crispy on the outside nice and fluffy inside and not greasy!
