I wish there was a Walton's closer to where we live because it's that's good! It reminds you of a meat and three restaurant. When we entered, we were immediately greeted and seated. Our waiter came to our table and gave us some suggestions. I had the chicken and dumplings with a side of fried okra and sweet potato casserole. The dumplings were a little on the cold side, but were delicious. I could've eaten another bowl of that dish. The okra was extra crispy, just how I like it and the sweet potato casserole reminded me of Thanksgiving. The restaurant was clean and it was a nice size. The restaurant has a lovely Southern charm décor and a calm, relaxed vibe--perfect for enjoying conversation with friends. Service was friendly but a bit inexperienced. Our waitress wasn't sure about some menu details (such as whether the vegetables were cooked with meat or meat stock) and forgot one side order. The food itself was a mixed experience. The sides reminded me of cafeteria-style fare (similar to Piccadilly's). The macaroni and cheese tasted like it came from a box, with a liquid cheese sauce, and my meal arrived lukewarm. On the positive side, my husband really enjoyed his salmon croquettes, calling them "delicious." The service was great. We had a party of eight. Our waiter, Thomas, was excellent. He got all the orders correct and was personable. He and the other person, who I think was the manager, that served us took time to actually talk to us, which was great even though they were very short handed. They were very thorough. We got our orders quickly and very surprised. The food was fresh and delicious. Our entrees were perfect size. The strawberry pretzel salad was exceptional. It was listed as a side. I wanted to give this place another shot before I left a review. Went once during lunch while at work with a coworker, another time on President's Day with my wife and kids. Both times I visited we were promptly seated. The average age of the customer here is about 60; makes for some quiet meals which can be good. Not really date night but they have a very loyal customer base of older Hunstville residents who love the food. The food is primarily southern-style cooking: fried chicken, baked chicken, Mac-n-cheese, green beans, yeast rolls etc. Very much channels the home cooking vibe but tends a little more cafeteria to me. Our service has been excellent each time, most recently Samson was our server and he was excellent. Just the right amount of attentive and not pushy at all. Food was a meh for me. My wife and kids liked it, as did my coworker, but I was not a fan. I wouldn't personally choose to go back here but wouldn't veto it. They were out of chicken tenders for the kids meals when we visited most recently, which is weird because they had fried chicken and roast chicken -- I guess it isnt a high demand item and they buy frozen perhaps? They were also out of the printed kids menus (which were available as a PDF on their website) so this just goes to show you who the core demographic for customers happens to be.. Either way, both of my kids chose to get a bowl of mac and cheese, I got the Southern Fried Chicken and the wife got the Veggie plate. Wife said her food was good for the most part, I enjoyed the fried chicken more than I did the chicken and dressing on the previous visit. My fried chicken was mixed, I enjoyed one piece and wasn't a fan of the other. I am definitely NOT a fan of thr mashed potatoes. They include some skin in the potatoes and they have a thick consistency, I honestly think Idahoan makes better. The green beans and the corn was pretty decent. Wife really liked her strawberry and walnut salad (which was more akin to a jello brownie than a salad, definitely do some research before ordering). I am not a fan of the corn bread (unsweet and tends toward dry with minimal flavor), there yeast rolls is better. They have a few bottled beers and some wine, which is nice. Coke products to drink. Worth a shot but go with mid expectations and prepare to be pleasantly surprised. If you're over 60, this could be your new favorite spot :D read more

Everything was amazing! Especially the strawberry salad. What a unique blend of sweet and salty! I thought the fried chicken and fixins were really homemade and the restaurant itself was very graceful looking. The staff was hospitable and attentive, and made excellent suggestions. I ate there today. Friendly staff and comfortable seating where you can meet a friend and catch up. I have eaten there for years but was disappointed today. The pot roast w/ potatoes and carrots was SO bland even salt and pepper didn't bring it to life. Was tasted like it was left over from the weekend. The friend that was with me said the coleslaw tasted old. The menu hasn't changed in a few years and mainly chicken dishes. They need a few fresh items for a better choice. I was in Huntsville, AL recently for a convention and went to lunch with a group of old friends to Walton's Southern Table. I had been there once before but it had been a year. The first time, the food was amazing and the place was packed. This time, not so packed for lunch on Saturday which was a little surprising. However, our server could not have been nicer and was quick to serve up our drinks and take our orders. And everyone ordered something different and no complaints were heard. Maybe I remembered it differently but the food was not prepared with as much care as I expected. Their signature fried green tomatoes were underwhelming as well as their fried okra. And I love both. Maybe recent meals in Charleston, SC set too high of a standard. Again nothing bad, just a good solid average. But the restaurant feel, the location and the wonderful staff move the marks higher. Maybe it was an off day, or just me. Give it a try. You probably will love it. Walton's Southern is certainly an asset to the Huntsville community. read more

Yesterday my dad said he wanted chicken and dumplings. We went to Walton's Southern Table to pick up lunch to go. Dad ordered the aforementioned chicken and dumplings with corn, side salad and green beans. I ordered the 1/2 baked rosemary chicken with pinto beans, turnip greens and green beans and hubs ordered Kala's chicken with fried okra, Lima beans and black eyed peas. Dad said his meal was ok. The sauce in the chicken and dumplings was on the thin side and salty. The corn was so so and green beans mushy. My baked chicken was juicy with little to no flavor. Bland tasting chicken yesterday. My pinto beans were a little undercooked, the turnip greens tasted like they were sweetened, not my idea of tasty turnip greens, and the green beans tasted sweet as if sugar had been added. My meal didn't taste good to me. Hubs said his Kala's chicken was dry. He did enjoy his fried okra, lima beans and black eyed peas. The side salad had several pieces of brown, old lettuce, that I passed on. I like fresh crisp lettuce in my salad. The ranch dressing was bottled and not remarkable. I have been to this restaurant many times. Their food used to be great. It's probably that they have new cooks. I do not recall eating sweet tasting turnip greens and green beans in the past. Maybe the recipes have been tweaked? I am not sure. I will wait a while before I return. Maybe by then the cooks will change and the food will be delicious as it has been in the past. My daughter and I were in town looking for something good to eat and oh boy did we find it! The food was delicious and the service was decent. This is a casual restaurant with nice decor. We had an appetizer of fried green tomatoes that were so yummy and the sauce that comes with just topped it off, definitely recommend. We started with dessert first, carrot cake and lemon pie. They both were tasty but that carrot cake was perfection, not too sweet; just right! We chose the pot roast and salmon patties, both were really good and the vegetables were delicious as well. Walton's is a southern style restaurant. It reminds me of a buffet, except you order from the menu and they serve it to you at your table. I'd be willing to bet that everything on the menu is premade and served from pans in the back. I'm not saying it wasn't good, but you can tell it's not made to order. The service is amazing, everyone is super super nice and friendly. The fried green tomatoes were pretty good. They had some kind of extra heat to them that went well with the sweetness of the tomato. My wife's meatloaf was also very good. I had something called Kalas chicken, it was on the dry side. I would have pass on it the next trip. Ordered online cause I've been sick. Just wanted a few of my favorite foods and comfort food. When my order arrived not only did I not receive my fried okra (the whole reason I made the decision to order from here) but it was a giant box of fried green tomatoes which I am repulsed by. So not only am I not happy with my first experience here but I completely lost my appetite due to the fact that they can't read a simple ticket and make it correctly. My Mom's birthday was this weekend so I had to drive up to Huntsville to see her. She said Walton's is one of her favorite restaurants. I never had been. I remember it was previously a Ruby Tuesday's so it's been a long time since I had been to that area of Huntsville. We had lunch at Walton's. Our party ended up being a bit bigger than we anticipated, but the staff accommodated us with no issue. Our waitress was really attentive and nice. The food looked great. The taste was alright. I feel like my meal (meatloaf with mashed potatoes and okra) could have been seasoned better. My okra was cooked too long, but it was still eatable. One of my sons loved his meal, which was fried chicken. The other son didn't like his meal at all, which was chicken and dumplings. My other family members seemed to enjoy their food. Most of them got fried chicken so maybe that's what I should have ordered. My Mom had a good time so that was what was most important. The service is great. The food is decent. I think I would go back, but I would try something else. read more

This food was trash. We had the chicken fried chicken and it was 2 frozen breaded chicken breasts with gravy and we also had the country fried steak. The steak was greasy and chewy. The mashed potatoes were sweet tasting and were runny. The yeast roll was a thawed frozen roll and the corn bread was too hard to eat. If you want something better I suggest cheddars. The sacrifice of space for more customers is well worth it for the added privacy--I'd much rather enjoy a meal without feeling like I'm packed in with others. The lighting is bright, with a pleasant mix of natural daylight and overhead lights. Despite the moderate busyness, the background noise is nicely muffled, allowing for a relaxed atmosphere. Food Quality and Service: The quality of the food here is amazing, especially considering the reasonable prices. I ordered the Southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes, okra, macaroni and cheese, dumplings, sweet tea, and cornbread. The sweet tea had a good flavor but could have been a touch sweeter. The chef was kind enough to come out and inform me that the fried chicken would take 9 minutes, which I appreciated. Mac n Cheese: It was a highlight--very cheesy, with perfectly al dente noodles. Unfortunately, it was served cold, which took away from the overall experience. Mashed Potatoes: These had an incredible stew-like flavor, possibly from being boiled in a stew before being mashed. The color didn't give this away, making for a pleasant surprise. Okra: The okra wasn't warm, but this didn't detract from the taste. I could easily enjoy a meal made entirely of their okra. Chicken and Dumplings: The chicken was perfectly tender and flavorful, though the dumplings could have been more substantial. The cornbread was moist with delicious butter pockets inside. Fried Chicken: The fried chicken was the star--crispy like Captain Crunch and incredibly moist, particularly the breast, which was surprisingly juicy. The portions were proportionate, and the chicken seemed natural, not pumped with steroids. Dessert: I ended my meal with a slice of pecan pie. While the pie and the fork were both cold, the flavor was great, and the pecans were a healthy size. Waltons Southern Table is a locally owned and operated restaurant. It has a spin on southern food (hence the name) but the food is delicious and very well seasoned. I have been here a handful of times now, my granny loves it, and so far I have not been disappointed. First time I had the salmon patties which were delicious and served with a creamy dill sauce. The pintos and collards were perfectly seasoned and delicious. Hands down the best thing here is the fried green tomatoes, perfectly seasoned and served with Hot D*mn Sauce (I think on the menu it's called just Dip, but it mimics another local restaurants sauce and that is what the sauce is called. It's like a spicy Mayo based sauce that is just to die for. Kalas Chicken is the best entry on the menu in my eyes. A delicious chicken breast butterflied and seasoned topped with Monterey Jack, bacon, and fried green tomatoes. The boiled cabbage is perfectly seasoned and my new favorite side. Everything is seasoned perfectly, no need for salt or pepper. I will definitely be back! read more

We got takeout here once and vowed NEVER, ever again. Oh my god was it horrible. So, if you've had the unfortunate experience of hospital dining--particularly the "low sodium diet" hospital food--that is what you'll get here. We got chicken and dressing, and OH boy was it bad. It tasted like cream of unidentifiable soup and nothing else. The chicken was stringy and dry. The mashed potatoes were cold, the gravy was straight of a packet, and the green beans were just out of a can. Everything was overcooked, flavorless, and just...bad. I was starving and barely ate two bites. Better half can eat anything, and I do mean anything, and he ate less than a quarter of his. We went to for late lunch. Our waitress was amazing. She kept me in water, which to me is a show of great service. She was very patient with us and all our shenanigans. I ordered the chicken fried Chicken upon her recommendation and it was great. Mom ordered a salad and she "licked the plate" when the check came and we fought about who was paying for the desert she was extremely patient with us.
