Wow wow. I had never been here but the two people that I was meeting for a business breakfast had chosen this place so I drove to it. My favorite thing is always the service even more than the food at any restaurant and I super love local owned restaurants too. This one was a local restaurant and the vibe was seriously perfect. The severs were super nice and joyful and they continued to serve us remaining coffees and waters and other things. Blue Plate Cafe is always my go to spot for meat and three dishes. For each day of the week, they have specific menu items that they serve. We had the chicken and dressing with fried okra and collard greens. We also had their apple cobbler for dessert. As always, the food was very good. You may have to add your own salt and pepper, but nothing's wrong with that. My guest ordered the same thing, but with hash brown casserole. The hash brown casserole was cold and instead of our waitress replacing it, she stuck it in a microwave. We also noticed a lot of water on the floor near the food bar area. I believe the staff had already started cleaning, which is ok, but not when the floors have that much water to where it could possibly result in an injury. When we checked out the lady at the register even asked us how our food was and even though we told her the hash brown casserole was cold, she didn't apologize or even offer to comp us for this side item. read more

Easy aearing but can see it filling up. Great service, but my water glass did need attention. Not bad as it was busy. Food arrived fast. Pancakes were light. Thats good, didn't want them heavy. Back in 2009/2010 Blue Plate was the top standard for Breakfast in Huntsville. No other restaurant was better! People would wait for an hour to get a table on the weekends. I left the country for a couple years and when I came back to visit all of the quality was gone. Corners and costs had been obviously cut and Blue Plate lost my business. I tried it again when they opened on South Parkway but still the same lackluster, just ok standards for breakfast. My wife and I decided to give Blue Plate another shot last week and still the quality of the food is in the toilet. I ordered a ham and cheese Omelette and so much cheese was used that it was literally glued to my plate in melted cheese. All I could taste was gross cheap cheese. I decided to scrape off much of it. Waffle House makes better omelettes. Back in the day Blue Plate hash browns were light, fresh and crispy......today they look like they were poured out of a bag that was frozen the night before. My sausage was borderline burnt. I guess the coffee and toast were ok. The place is nice, clean and the service is good but the quality of food and food prep is gone and there does not seem to be any interest in bringing it back. If you want a great breakfast ditch Blue Plate and check out Metro Diner in Madison. To be fair I am not a fan of their lunch style menu and have never eaten at that time.....maybe they make up for their low quality breakfast menu here but for me I have no reason to ever go back. read more

Fantastic breakfast. Possibly the best bacon I've had - cooked just the way I like it, not too crispy. Good grits and biscuit with gravy too. They were super accommodating of our large group. Service was excellent. Food... not so much. We went in for breakfast, as my prior breakfast experience was outstanding. Unfortunately, they stop serving it around noon. Since we were already seated, we ordered some lunch menu items. It was definitely not a repeat experience. The pot roast was tasteless and dry; I dont even know how it's even possible to make pot roast taste like nothing. The cabbage had a terrible taste to it as well; maybe a mix of garlic and the pot it was cooked in (?). I couldn't eat anything off my plate at all. Will likely not be back anytime soon, if ever. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. It wasn't bad, it just didn't hold up to all the hype from other reviewers. I've been eating at diners for over 50 years and this wouldn't rank in the top ten. I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas, and fried okra. Nice size portions all around. The meatloaf was pretty good, and so were the peas. But the okra was not very good. It appeared as if they cooked enough for the day at 10:00 am, very greasy. I arrived at 1:00pm. The potatoes tasted very much like box potatoes, not a lot of taste in them or lumps. If it wasn't for the service, I would have given only two stars. read more

I had a marginally better breakfast while my car was being serviced after my first "meh" review. My breakfast burrito was well prepared and (thankfully) hot, the coffee was continually refilled, and I was satisfied. I was also there longer than I anticipated (see also: car service), and staff were super friendly about this--note that I did NOT keep others from being seated, don't be a jerk. While seated I ran into my city councilman, heard a LOT about the goings on at the Utility department, and had more fun eavesdropping/people watching than normal. We really enjoyed our first meal at the Blue Plate Cafe today. Despite a full house for Sunday lunch, service by Whitney was quick, attentive, and very friendly. My chicken fried steak with gravy was excellent along with what tasted like real mashed potatoes, well-seasoned green beans, and a crisp house salad. The dinner also came with a huge yeast roll , but the meat and side servings were so large I never got around to it, so I brought it home for later. My wife had the grilled chicken sandwich with fries and a fruit cup. I didn't try any of it but she said it was all very good. The restaurant is open everyday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM for breakfast and lunch. It's located on the corner of Elm Place and Kenosha in Broken Arrow. Blue Plate Cafe is bang for your buck. The food here tastes great and it was a home run for sure. I absolutely love breakfast food and this just hit the spot for me. I got an all veggie omelet with extra jalapeños and it had the right amount of heat and explosion of flavor. The tater tots were crispy and hot and the biscuit was flaky and buttery. Our server was absolutely amazing and she did an amazing job. She's very friendly and amazing with kids. An awesome example of southern hospitality. Now I wanted to leave a place in this review for cocoa biscuits. This is like biscuits and gravy but as a dessert. What I had pictured in my head was totally different than what was served but how can you go wrong with this? I look forward to breakfast here, whenever I visit. Their goal is Southern comfort food, served the way meals were served decades ago and should still be served today. I must admit eating at the Blue Plate Café invoked some strong, pleasant memories of eating really good food, served like my Grandmother made them. Breakfast is consistently perfect. Tasty farm fresh bacon and eggs, with hash browns crisped to perfection and a variety of biscuits or toast, served hot and with a smile.  A bottomless pot of freshly brewed coffee was available as well as a to go cup, if I wanted. Melanie, my server was friendly and had a wonderful small so early in the morning.   So to sum up, Good Southern cooking, affordable prices, friendly service and smiles. Dec 2024: My review is split 50/50. The service and food were 4 stars; however, the place is very dirty (1 star). Our table wasn't very clean. We also sat next to the window and the window sill and blinds were absolutely filthy, as was the sticky floor, not only under our table, but visibly around other tables as well. We ate breakfast at 10:10 on a Tuesday morning, so this level of dirtiness was surprising so early in the day. Not a good impression and we won't return. read more

I've been to the blue plate in Tuscaloosa on numerous occasions and it's one of my favorite spots so I thought I would stop by and show some love.
