    My rib plate

Checked out Jamijo's on Monday for their infamous "Specialty Meat Monday" and I'm glad I did. The specialty meat was beef ribs and when I tell you them ribs were cooked to perfection - believe me! They came dry, no sauce, and they didn't need it because whatever magic was being done in the kitchen, worked like a charm (nah, it wasn't magic it was skill!). With the ribs I got a side of collard greens and mac & cheese...also picked up a fried catfish plate with collard greens and hush puppies for the sides. Mmmmmaaaannnnn, all that food was good. Think I might just have a new go to spot. If you're looking for good soul food at a reasonable price look no further. I highly recommend you check them out!

You know it's good food when a side of Mac n cheese tastes like it was made at home with love and not like undercooked macaroni clobbered with yellow gooey stuff. I ordered their meatloaf and banana pudding. Meatloaf came with 2 sides and corn bread. I picked Mac n cheese and collard greens for the sides. Everything was fresh and well made. Huntsville badly needs a good soul food place. If they stay consistent with the quality of their food, they got themselves a loyal customer.

Was in town & just had lunch here. Good stuff! Inside Water's General Store. It's actually in Meridianville, which is close to Alabama A&M. There's a little seating but we got ours to-go. We had meatloaf, fried tilapia, mac n cheese, greens, cornbread & peach cobbler. Everything was tasty!

The star of the meal was the fried green tomatoes. They were thick, juicy, perfectly fried, and honestly didn't need any dipping sauce or condiment at all. They're some of the best I've had. Minnie and I both ordered the whole catfish with mashed potatoes and fried green tomatoes. We absolutely demolished our plates. The catfish was delicious, and the mashed potatoes tasted genuinely homemade. The brown gravy was rich and flavorful and paired perfectly with them. My mom ordered the 4-vegetable plate with fried green tomatoes, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and fried okra. She loved everything on her plate. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the restaurant was busy the entire time we were there. There was a steady stream of both dine-in customers and takeout orders, which tells you a lot about the place's reputation. My only complaint is the wait time. Food takes a while to come out, especially if you're ordering fried items, but they do warn you ahead of time. The quality makes it clear they're cooking to order, so if you decide to visit, just be prepared to be patient. If someone asked me where to take an out-of-town guest for authentic Southern cooking, G's Country Kitchen would be at the top of my list. The food is homemade, comforting, and exactly what people imagine when they think of classic Southern cuisine. Overall, the food was fantastic, the service was welcoming, and it's easy to see why G's Country Kitchen is a go-to spot for homestyle country cooking. We'll definitely be back.

This was Southern hospitality at its finest, wrapped in incredible food and genuine warmth from the moment our Forest Service and Alabama A&M team walked through the door. The owner and staff were extremely kind, welcoming, and hospitable to our group, treating us less like customers and more like honored guests. The owner personally sat with our team, walking us through the menu item by item, sharing stories, and offering recommendations on his favorite dishes. That personal touch set the tone for the whole lunch and made the meal feel both special and deeply personal. The food itself was soul-satisfying in every way. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned with a crispy exterior and juicy interior, the kind of dish that makes you pause after the first bite. The catfish was especially delicious as well, tender, flavorful, and cooked just right, embodying everything you hope for in classic country cooking. And the banana pudding was a standout, instantly transporting me to memories of dining in Savannah, with that rich, comforting, homemade taste you feel in your soul. From start to finish, everything about our visit to G's Country Kitchen was outstanding...the hospitality, the conversation, the food, and the feeling of being truly cared for. Many thanks to the owner and the entire staff for a great experience and a lunch that our Forest Service and Alabama A&M team will not soon forget.

It ended up being closer to 40 minutes before I received my food. The wait itself wasn't unreasonable given the circumstances, but the estimate wasn't very accurate. I ordered the 3-piece catfish plate with 4-cheese macaroni and fried corn, which also came with a roll. The macaroni was the star of the show. It was flavorful and well-seasoned, not just cheesy. The fried corn was also very good. The catfish was piping hot and tasted good, but it appeared to have been cooked in older grease, as evident by its color, taste and overall presentation. Considering the price point, I would have appreciated a more appealing presentation. Overall, the food was good. My plate came to about $28, so I expected a little more attention to detail. That said, I'd be willing to visit again, just in moderation (price). The restaurant also has an indoor bar, which I didn't try during this visit. There were plenty of seating options available, including bar seating, high-top tables, booths, standard tables, and even a couple of loveseats. Parking is available in a shared lot with neighboring businesses.

This! Place! Needs! More! Hype!…read more Okay, back to typing normally. Kar's Char is a relatively new Texas-style bbq place inside of Lowe Mill. It occupies the full restaurant space that used to belong to The Veggie and belonged to Happy Tummy before that. It's to the left of Piper and Leaf as you face P&L from the parking lot. I only belabor this point because some folks do have a hard time navigating Lowe Mill and no one should miss out on giving this place a try because they can't find it. I saw a few posts about Kar's Char when they first opened and have had them bookmarked since then. Recently, I was in the area after work around 2 PM and looking to kill some time before a doctor's appointment. I was feeling hungry and figured why not give them a go and enjoy a little time at the Mill while I waited. I arrived and took a few minutes to look at the menu. I am, admittedly, freakishly obnoxious and snobby about barbeque and was determined to have a positive experience, so I decided not to play with fire that day and instead decided to order one of their burgers, which I'd seen a few people rave about online. I selected their hatch green chili cheeseburger and placed an order for that. It comes with one side and I decided on macaroni and cheese. They have bottled drinks available next to the register and so I grabbed a water out of the cooler to round things out. My burger was cooked fresh just for me so I had a few minutes to hang around and take in the fun, nerdy, classic Lowe Mill ambiance. This is a truly local business and they seem very dedicated to supporting and uplifting their fellow businesses in and around the Mill. The service I received was incredibly kind and welcoming -- they really do seem like lovely folks here. My burger came out piping hot and cooked perfectly, with slightly crispy, charred edges and a juicy center. It was a delicious burger, slightly spicy but nothing scary, and I especially loved the chili lime aioli -- added a nice creaminess and moisture. To my pleasant surprise, the soft, lightly toasted bun held up to all the goodness pretty well! Next time I will probably ask for no pickles -- I found their flavor a little overwhelming -- but I am also hot and cold on my feelings about pickles so your mileage may vary! I say keep them on if you're a big fan, and take them off if not. :) The macaroni and cheese was enjoyable but not as good as the burger. Next time I come I will probably try out a different side. Overall, 4.5/5, with extra high marks for the hatch green chili burger and the charming, welcoming staff/owners. I'll be back to try the actual barbeque, and certainly to have another burger!
