He responds back with " I don't have time to be waiting around, either you come out or I leave". Erik is just another Peninsula contractor that has no customer service skills. Great experience working with Erik. He installed a new chandelier and a new pendant light fixture, did some work on our recessed lighting, and moved a switch. Cathedral ceilings were no problem. Throughout the process, it was easy to communicate with Erik. He gave us some great suggestions and worked with us to make sure we were happy with everything he did, including experimenting with the chandelier height for a while. Our tenants told us the ceiling fan in the bathroom of our condo konked out, and considering that there wasn't a window in the room, it seemed prudent to fix it as soon as possible. I go there with toolbox in hand and spend the afternoon pulling the old one out, buying a new one, installing it, cutting my finger, checking the current, plugging it in, and the damn thing didn't work. Since I was busy, I decided it was best to let someone else do it. My tenant recommended E&S (she also works in real estate), and I gave him a call. He gave me a very reasonable flat rate, scheduled a time with the tenant, and fixed it. He was patient with the invoice (I did get it paid by net+20), and the fan is now functional. I liked the friendly service and can-do attitude. If I need an electrician again, I'll give them a call. read more

Eric was a great help in repairing a garage fluorescent fixture and linked incandescent utility light that had not worked since we moved in. He was on time, listened, came prepared with replacement parts and fixed it readily. I was curious (for my next attempted DIY) and he kindly walked me through the fundamentals--still quite happy that he did it correctly, than if I futzed with it. Given the house call, I had other lingering electrical questions that he helped with. Checking other GFC outlets and explaining how the house was wired--more clear than what our home inspection had done. Reassuring. Also kindly offered other advise and recommendations. Jeff came to do an extensive job at my house. He was extremely expert and conscientious! He had to work in terribly frigid weather to get the job done. But his attitude was always so positive. Just had E&S come around for the second time to fix the same outdoor lights/outdated lighting they fixed before. Friendly and competent enough. However, I feel their services are very pricey, and no break given despite the fact that it was the same issue from less than a year before when I paid what I thought then was far too much (granted, I was warned I might need to spend around an additional $2k to prevent it from happening again). Confession: I had not realized I was calling the same guys back. Perhaps I am not up to date on what electrician fees are these days... $200/hour seems high to me, especially given that one of them is an assistant being told what to do. I also wish I had been told that on the phone before coming out, though mea culpa for not asking, I guess. They just said they were coming out and I was thinking it would be for an estimate. In any case, after they left, it dawned on me that I had not even been given an invoice/receipt. I would think that standard practice. Will shop around better next time. Thought I'd post it in case there are others who are not aware of their rates and would also not want to dish out that much if not necessary. read more

We just bought a house in Redwood City. Talked to both Trevor and Eric on the phone to work out a time for a visit. Both were polite an courteous on the phone. Eric came over, went round the house and took so much time and care explaining all the breaker boxes and showing me how he tested sockets to make sure they were safe (turns out everything is!). All of this initial consult was free. The best part about Eric is that he clearly loves to teach. He didn't mind at all that I would ask dumb questions, making me feel very comfortable doing so and reassuring me that I actually knew enough to get by. He went out of his way to show me how to turn off the electrics and even taught me how to safely change a socket (it's not hard). To the point where he said that I didn't really need his services but I could give him a call if I didn't have time to do the basic parts of the work myself. I'll certainly be using E&S Electric for the larger remodeling work we have coming up. read more

I will be sure to never recommend this company or Eric. I got the sense he had an attitude from the very first call I made but I figured maybe he was busy so I would try to make it quick. I let him know from the start that what we needed was a small job of putting lights up above a barber station. He called my bf set an appointment to check it out everything seemed fine. The day before he was scheduled to come out he called and started off asking questions about what he needed. This is where the conversation went sour fast because since we don't know EXACTLY what is needed in regards to wires and switches he started getting the worst attitude as if my bf is stupid or something. IF WE KNEW HOW TO HOOK UP WIRES WE WOULDN'T NEED AN ELECTRICIAN! The whole point of his call was to tell us that he couldn't make it because of an emergency, ok fine understandable, however this review and him being hung up on could've all been prevented if he just would have said he can't make the appointment instead of treating like we're idiots. I don't know how he continues to get business treating others like a commodity. read more

We needed an outside 220 volt service for a big swim-spa. This required about 80 feet of conduit, wire, subpanel, and ground rod. Eric at E&S gave us the low bid. Another bidder, a favorite at Angies List bid 50% more, a third charged me $29 for the estimate which was almost 3 times what Eric bid. When Eric came to do the work, I explained that I wanted part of the service to go under a sidewalk. He said I had not said that before, he had planned to run from a pole. My change would cost $200 more. No problem; he was still well below the others. He did good work, explained it to me, and then came back on the day the spa was delivered to hook it up. Plus, he gave me tips on how to maintain the spa which I much appreciated. Then he called the next morning, a Saturday, to check if it was all working right. Eric was very professional, worked quickly, and I had the sense I could really trust him to do it right. He would be my first choice for future electrical service. UPDATE: Eric came today (12/11/13) with his nephew to fix a simple problem. That is, it was a big problem for me, no lights and no fan to our stove exhaust, that I had tried to fix, they fixed in minutes. Can I say Cheap? Efficient? Nice guys? read more

Eric I wanted to say thank you so much for coming out to our house on the extreme short notice and helping us. We had a potential fire hazard with some bad wiring done by another electrician and we had an unfinished installation of a bath fan due to the inexperience/incompetence of that electrician. When I told Eric about it in the evening he came out the following day. He showed up happy and outgoing and positive and did all of the work that day. He also allowed me to ask many questions and was patient with me. He also gave me some tips on things that I could do no my own - in terms of replacing some outdoor attic vents. I could not have asked any for any better service and I enjoyed talking with Eric as well. We slept well that night knowing that our house was safe and I just took my first shower this morning with the new bath fan and it worked beautifully! No more soggy walls or fogged mirrors. I learned the hard way that is best to hire a qualified professional so the job can be done right the first time. That's a lesson that I learned many years ago but apparently forgot (Again lol). Eric is an extremely knowledgeable and honest electrician. I did not hire him for any work before since we are doing a major construction at our home and the construction company is taking care of the electrical issues. However, I talked to him over the phone a couple of times regarding replacing the electrical panel and the old wiring of the house. He gave me a lot of money-saving advice practically for free. When asked about replacing the old wiring, he told me replacing knob-and-tube would cost at least $100 per outlet/switch and would involve opening up walls. This was something my construction company had not told me. When I pressed them for more info, they confessed that it was not necessary confirming Eric's opinions. Moved to a new, but very old, home. There were two separate problems with the house: 1) The electrical service panel was needed to be replaced. 2) Some of the electrical outlets in the home stopped working. Called around and someone recommended Eric from E & S Electric. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He took a couple of hours to replace the service panel, which was expected. When it was all done, it was installed cleanly and works well. In addition, Eric fixed all the non-working outlet by finding a burnt wire in one of my outlets and now all my electrical outlet works! This is a long overdue review for some work that I had done a year ago. Needed an electrical outlet added in my garage when I replaced my water heater with a tankless one. Called several electricians and Eric was the only one who responded the same day. He and his son came by the same day to look at the area and gave me a quick estimate. Ok, my last review E&S Electric was 15 months ago and everything still holds true. I used E&S Electric again for another project in the Bay Area. The pressure was definitely on... 11 days, yes 11 days before Christmas Day, my wife and I decided to remodel our master bathroom in time for 30 dinner guests for Christmas. Luckily we had an idea in mind, and Eric was a key contributor by getting all of the work done in 2 days... installation of can lights, new bathroom fan / light / heater, converting a single circuit that ran our master bedroom and bathroom, into 3 circuits with floor tile heating as well. I said in my last review that Eric is better than good, he is an Electrical Rockstar! He is fast, very focused on getting the task done, and his work is extremely clean. My husband and I spent an entire day trying to diagnose why half the outlets stopped working in the kitchen. After being unsuccessful DIY'ers I called Eric. He had the problem diagnosed in under a minute and everything working in about 10. As a bonus, he cleared out some unsightly pipe and wire in our backyard that had been improperly installed.
