I've ordered a few more times. Everything has been great. The online ordering makes it really easy. I can order, wait 5-10 minutes then leave my desk and walk the few blocks and the order is ready when I get there. Had a caesar salad with steak today and potato salad. Both were tasty. E Cafe is conveniently located near the Lafayette Train stop and opened for breakfast and lunch. As the name implies, there's free wifi and plenty of tables, most tables are for 2-4 people. Coffee is self serve and sugar, cream, and syrups are similar to what I'd see in a work cafeteria, not as fancy as options as Starbucks or Spot (like you won't find raw sugar or fancy creamers here). I got an iced coffee and the cashier instructed me to fill with my own ice and cream then give back to her. I thought this was strange at first as most places just leave room after they fill with coffee for you to add cream and sugar, however it does make more sense to do it this way. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich on a croissant with egg, cheese, and ham and it was pretty good. Both items came to $6. The restaurant was very clean at 8 am but pretty empty. The only thing I didn't care for was how strong the deep fried smell was, I wish it was better ventilated. However I wouldn't let this deter you from trying this place. The service was quick and food was served hot and tasted good. The cashier was nice too. Will definitely be stopping back here at least for breakfast, maybe lunch too one of these days. read more

Today I'm here for breakfast. Counter staff was pleasant and ordering was efficient. My order was served just before I was asked to move because they were bringing in a cooler. I ordered the Cafe Slam, which consisted of a mini omelette (a crepe style egg with cheese inside it), bacon (or sausage) and maple hot cakes (other choices were pancakes or French toast). The omelette was fine, the bacon was perfectly cooked, and the hot cakes were slightly over cooked. My experience was basic, but not bad. There are other places I'd be more likely to go. read more

been here a thousands time now. It is a OK grab and go place becuase the food is fine but the space smells terribly like a burnt oil or something like that. They change their flatbread weekly, so you'll not get stuck to one type of flatbread and all of them are good. It is a good portion of food for one person but not to share. Usually there is not much seats inside, so I'd say f you want to grab something and go this is the best place as they also prepare the food so quick. Paninis are my second favorite food here. I work downtown and I'm always in search for good lunch places to escape the office for a while. Especially anything along Main Street, as this area is in need of new businesses for the work crowd during the day. I've been here a few times and pretty much have enjoyed anything I've ordered, and the prices are reasonable as well. E-Cafe's strong points are the melts, free fountain soda Fridays, and free use of the PC's (Internet) set up along the side windows. Though, I wish they had free wi-fi....they are called E-cafe right? When the weather is nice they have tables and chairs set up along the Main/Mohawk courtyard. Ok, well back to lunch....The tuna and turkey melts are amazing! The sourdough melts are so big they need to cut it in three pieces, and come standard with tomatoes, choice of cheese, and dressing/topping....oh and pickles on the side. I've also had the Greek (Veggie) focaccia melt, which was very tasty but a little messy to eat....glad a fork and knife was provided. Had the chicken cordon bleu wrap, it was just Ok, a little dry and the lettuce ratio was high...next time maybe some salad dressing would put it over the top. The sub sandwiches and burgers look to be of good values based on the portions, and I'll have to try them on the next office escape. read more

E-Café is very convenient to my office, so it's a quick place to run to in bad whether, or when we can't decide on where we want to go. Everything is generally great quality & flavorful. I have always enjoyed their "flatbreads of the week" - interesting and a nice sized portion. Breakfast sandwiches are a common "run to pick up" item for my co-workers & I. Again, nice portion and reasonable price - however the egg is scrambled and I personally prefer a fried egg on my sandwich - though it does not keep me from ordering them. The amount of Feta on the Greek Salad is generous, always something important. Amount of meat on the wraps is adequate, though sometimes the amount on the paninis is a bit sparse. Sometimes difficult to eat-in, as the location is small, with about 4 tables for 4 and 3 for 2. Most of their business is take-out. One BIG criticism and this is most likely they themselves can't control. Their ventilation system is extremely poor. Upon entering you are hit with the greasy smell that then lingers on your clothing. I actually have a friend who refuses to go in there, as he is sensitive to the lingering odor. With the recent renovations in that building, I'm surprised that this is an issue. But if that's not a problem for you, and with the good reviews and amount of business they do, it's seems not to be for most. read more

Had a lunch-work meeting at this spot and it was absolutely perfect for it. As we came in, the smell of bacon proliferated the entire room. Unfortunately, as we came to find out they stopped serving breakfast (yes..it was 1p). While my friend ordered a club sandwich, I opted for a simple chicken noodle soup and a coffee. The coffee here is your standard fare and although it won't tickle the bean mans fancy, it's still palatable to drink black which is most important for me (a coffee is instantly a loss in my book if I'm inclined to add cream to it). After the super friendly lady behind the counter took our order, we sat down at a table got out our laptops and began to work. As Steve mentioned, there are also PCs along the side windows set up for free use, which is really cool and retro. You feel like you're at a 'real' Internet cafe with those things there (who uses PCs anymore??). We weren't aware the place had free wifi, so we were using a tethered connection when an employee walked up to us and asked if we could connect okay. That was awesome! I've never had someone come up and ask that before, most people in establishments with free Internet are afraid to ask that for fear that their spotty wifi indeed doesn't work, but nope! We disconnected from the tethered line and connected to their wifi without a problem and had a solid productive hour. Oh yeah..the food. I'm always apprehensive to order chicken noodle soup, because I've found a lot of places oversalt the behemoth out of this soup. Not here -- it was perfectly salty, although I gotta say there weren't too many pieces of chicken in here. Maybe I just got an unlucky scoop? At any rate, at $2 it was cheap so I'm not complaining. My friend seemed to enjoy his club sandwich. Our meal came to $10 for both of us and included: a full sandwich, soup and coffee. The best part is no one interrupted us or gave us weird looks for doing some heavy programming-intensive work at this place for over an hour. I'll be back. read more

Basically like a cafeteria but better because free drinks. But hey a collègue of mine paid so what's not to like?! Customer service: they were nice. My time with them was short but in that two seconds I'd rate them a 10/10 Food: I had a soup (they had 4 choices- 2 of which were chicken based) and a sandwich. My soup (chicken rice) was hot and thick, and tasty but too thick? I just wasn't feeling it. I think if you got just that, you'd be fine. I drank/ate half of mine. However I still rate it 6/10. I might have been overly full from good company and already having eaten my sandwich. My sandwich was great. If you like a lot of meet though and cheese this place isn't it. But the taste of the bites were great. I had my roast beef panini heated and the taste was 9/10. I just wish it was filled a little more. Ambiance: like a cafeteria. Tables are small. E-cafe is a great little spot to stop in for a quick cheap meal. The food is great in my experience, especially the paninis. The staff has been nice the manager (or owner) had already remembered my name after my first few visits. I get food with my girlfriend there who has a severe dairy allergy and they have always accommodated and made sure there was not cheese etc. Not something I can say for many other restaurants. I was visiting Carmina, Wood, Morris, the architectural firm upstairs and after my meeting I just wanted a cup of coffee to take on my walk around downtown. Since I was in the architectural mood I wanted to take my time and look at some of the great buildings downtown. As the location is near the theater district there was lots to look at. I intern at Family Court and all of my colleagues love the ECafe, so I finally came by. It's a simple place, but perfect for a no-frills but tasty lunch. They have a very extensive menu- soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, etc.I also saw chips, baked goods, and of course, bottled and fountain drinks plus coffee. I went with the chicken sandwich and found it to be tasty. Perfectly grilled on a costanzo roll with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Perfect for the price ($6). I sat down at a table and the owner brought my food right to the table. Nice. The girl who took my order was fine as well. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Casual environment with oldies playing on the radio. A bunch of mismatched tables. Amazing WiFi. A couple of TVs. Not for a fancy lunch, but perfect for a regular Joe like me. I came here on my lunch. I was in a little hurry because i only get 1 hour for lunch. I ordered the lunch special which was really good. I do like the food but the girl at the counter wasn't very pleasant. I said I wanted the special with not too much cheese & its to go. She didn't look at me at all she kept looking all around and then she goes is for here or to go. Well i said it was to good. Now before i continue i do want to say this was at 1:15 and there must have been maybe 6 people in the place besides the people that where working. I intern right across the street from this place and always pass by when I am getting off the metro. My first visit I came in to get a cup of coffee. They just have air pots with coffee- nothing too crazy. But I noticed they had some awesome specials for students after 2pm. I wanted to grab a quick lunch today and thought this would be a great place. Some of my coworkers asked me to grab them sandwiches as well. I ordered a student special, a cold cut sandwich with chips and a fountain drink. A roast beef sandwich, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato on wheat with herb mayo. It was tasty! The herb mayo was very flavorful and the sandwich all together was good. The service was friendly and fast and prices were very reasonable. My coworkers got a turkey sandwich and a ham sandwich. A review from a group of guys that are willing to drive 30 mile round trips for this place! This place is THE diamond in the rough. Locally and family owned/operated, watching them make some of the best lunch food downtown has to offer is fun and entertaining. You can immediately tell they have a passion for everything they make, or you can just taste it and you'll know that serious thought was given in their menu's creation. Look, I love "doing it local" and it's clear that they're truly one of the highlights of a tour of downtown Buffalo. Hey, this city's know for it's food, right? One of my favorite parts is being able to watch them cook everything as it's all made to order. Even on a busy Monday lunch-hour, you can see them taking care and paying attention to detail with every single order. WARNING - you will NOT be hungry after eating here! Their melts and sandwiches are piled HIGH! I'm the kind of guy that can eat a McDonald's value meal and 3 things from the dollar menu in one sitting. If I go to E Café and order a melt with a side salad, I'm good until dinner. Last year, I changed jobs and now work on Grand Island (much farther than I used to be from E Café). I got my new coworkers hooked! As often as we can, the entire service department of Fuccillo Toyota orders and gets lunch from here, we call it "café day." It's our highlight. Figure it this way, daily a large group of large/hungry guys pay $12 a head for lunch from the Island for "meh food" in 15 min and eat in the break room discussing the day. On "café day," nearly everyone orders, paying less than $8 a head and are willing to wait for me to drive 15 miles each way so we can eat in the break room - which turns into a conversation of who ordered the best meal! Because of the drive, I understand that delivery isn't a viable option, but I order and pay in advance and they even walk it out to my car at Washington and Mohawk just so I don't have to pay 25 cents for parking. Trust me, Fuccillo Toyota's Service Department thanks this place for being here - just wish they'd open a satellite location closer to us, we'd be there every day! read more

I was walking down Washington Street the other day, exploring areas I hadn't been and turned up East Mohawk to head over to Fountain Plaza. There at the corner is eCafé. A sandwich board sign outside attracted my attention. Otherwise, I might have missed the place entirely. Nonetheless about 6 whole minutes later I was sitting at one of their tables with my food and drink order already in front of me. The food is simple and good tasting. I didn't sample a large part of the menu so I can't speak for it all - or for the majority of it. I can' only say that it tasted very good, was served lightning fast, and was very affordable. Every time I come here, I ask myself why I come here. I only ever find myself here out of desperation, as it is close to my office and occasionally this place will be open when the other (better) quick lunch spots I normally go to are closed. If there is even one person ahead of you, and even sometimes when there's not, , the wait time will be insane. Their incoming order organization doesn't make sense. Many times I have ordered a cup of soup, which only needs to be ladled into a cup and handed over the counter to me. But instead of doing that, any orders ahead of me (two salads, three panini, a wrap, etc.) will be assembled and cooked before anyone can ladle anything. Typical wait is 7-10 mins for that dang cup to make its way to me. I'm not an impatient person and I understand that the world doesn't revolve around me and my cup of soup, but this just seems like lack of common sense and it blows my mind. The other thing that kills me is the one napkin rule they evidently have in place. There are no napkin dispensers anywhere, and when you order your food you will receive exactly one napkin. Doesn't matter if you've got three sandwiches in your to-go bag - you're only getting one. C'mon, guys. Last thing is the smell - the kitchen is open to the seating area and is only separated by a counter. If you spend more than 60 seconds in here (and you will, I promise), you will come out smelling of cooking smells and oil. Something to keep in mind if you plan on dining in. The credit card machine frequently does not work and the coffee carafes are frequently empty so you may need to wait for staff to brew more and put another one out. The food is nothing great, it's standard sandwich and wrap cafeteria-type fare. The items I have tried sound great on the menu but in reality are quite underwhelming and lacking in flavor. I've eaten at ecafe numerous times. My favorite is the salami sandwich on sourdough with provolone cheese. The prices are very reasonable and staff is always friendly. if you work downtown and haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend you do. read more
