He and his fiancé asked if my mom and I would take my future niece along for a ride on the Scenic Summer Chairlift. My niece was free since she's only 5-years-old. My adult ticket was $25. It was a long steady ride, but some rain clouds did dump a cold shower on us at the very top. The lift just kept moving along. Lol. Parking was a bit sparce in that area, but there was plenty of spots in the Red River Ski & Summer Area lot. It's a nice, clean area. Many folks were hiking below us. Some were in ATVs. Of course there's lots of shopping and a few restaurants in the area. Red River and other fishing opportunities were nearby. I would be interested to ski here when/if the snow arrives.

We had the chance to take the SUP boards for a ride while the other half of the family were able to catch 3 beautiful 16" long rainbow trout. A family of deer came up to us and explored the lake during our time there. Steve at the office was just a ray of joy. We felt like he was part of our family during my brother's birthday trip. I hadn't been on a lake fishing since I was a kid; this experience brought back that nostalgia and I couldn't ask for more. Will definitely make the trip from Albuquerque here again :)

In fact I was glad I popped in on August 1, 2026. The lone staff member I worked with was great. I bought an annual residential license ($35). Along with the license, you're required to purchase a $4 Habitat Management and Access Validation (HMAV). To fish on U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM), you also need a Habitat Stamp ($10), so I got that too. New Mexico loves fees... "Transaction Fee: An online processing fee of $1.00 applies via the portal, or $2.00 if purchased at a physical retail vendor." So my grand total was $51. The shop was smallish, but jam-packed with great goods. Lots of bait. Hooks. Rods. Shirts. They also offer guided tours. And the employee offered nice fishing spot tips. There was a really nice trading post next door. Located on the main road in Eagle Nest. It can get fairly busy in the area - watch for pedestrians and lost tourists. Lol. This area was such a nice reprieve from the 3-digit temperatures in southeastern part of the state.

Considering this was the first time for two of us and my second time rafting, we all did well thanks to Brian's coaching and guidance. The equipment was in great condition and we had no issues with any of the gear. I also really appreciated how much gear was provided. Many rental places I've used in the past only provide the kayak, lifevest, and oar while Taos Raft and Kayak Rentals provided everything needed for a successful trip including throw bags, tie downs, helmets, patch kits, ect. Service was also very flexible with several pickup or delivery options and communications were detailed and fast. Not to mention, the price is tough to beat. I would definitely use Taos Raft and Kayak Rentals again in the future.

This was a last minute addition to my recent trip to Taos. I was looking for a short, easier…read moreexcursion on my last day in the area and the half day Orilla Verde raft trip was a perfect choice. This section of the river is calmer so its perfect for a relaxing float where you can spot wildlife and enjoy the grandeur of the gorge. You can opt to paddle a "funyak" on your own rather than go in the group raft. It's basically an inflatable kayak and my boyfriend and I chose that. It worked out well since there was only one other person in our group and they also chose a funyak. Check in is easy at the cafe in Pilar, about 20 minutes south of Taos and then you meet your guide at the gorge's visitor center across the street. Zac was our guide and he was a chill, cool guy but also focused on our safety and helped us navigate some shallow areas and one, small, class two rapids. He shared some stories about the river and its people and plant life. We got to see sheep climbing down the gorge to come drink in the river, a great blue heron and lots of ducks. It was a slow pace but that's what I was looking for. The funyaks were a little more challenging to navigate than regular kayaks (to me anyway.) They were lighter and seemed to spin and meander more. It was still a pleasant journey-just took a bit more concentration to paddle-especially with the two person boat we chose. Safety helmets and life jackets are provided and required. At the end, we shuttled back to the visitor center and our cars and Zac brought some apples, cookies and chips for the group. What a fun and memorable way to end my time in Taos. Los Rios is fun, friendly, easy to work with and I'd absolutely go again! Don't forget to tip your guide and also be ready to get a little wet, even on a more mellow trip. Had an awesome time on the river!

The staff here is very friendly and helpful. The park is nicely maintained and a good layout with…read moremature landscaping. Not a lot of shade, some sites have little to none. Very competitive pricing for the area. The bathrooms are very clean. Overall a nice place. So why only 3 stars? The site I was in along the side fence has a gravel road outside it with mobile homes across the street. Cars and trucks grinding up and down it during the day and evening. The gentleman who lives behind my site worked on a dirt bike then spent the day going up and down the street every hour or so, loudly. The house next door has a large dog that barks regularly. Woke me up at 2am. This is not a peaceful place on this side of the park. If I was going to be here more than a day I would have to move. Just be aware you don't want to stay in sites 18-24 if you like peaceful days and quiet nights. Not the park's fault but can't recommend staying if they give you one of these spots. Disappointed, but glad I shortened my stay when I checked in based on their strict early departure policy.
