Beautiful home--Ugly service…read more We were so excited to stay in this historic home, based on past reviews and even added a second night to our original reservation. We checked in after dark and I wasn't given directions to our Galleries room which was in the third story of another building around the corner from the main house. Thankfully, I had seen the layout online before we arrived and we eventually found our room. Macy texted soon after, asking if we found our room and apologized for the "stray dogs in our parking lot".There were three large dogs and one stayed close by, barking as we were unloading and for quite a while afterward. We travel with two small dogs and it didn't feel safe for them or us. I called the City of Vicksburg and they stated that the Corner's owner, Macy, had told them not to pick up the stray dogs when animal control had been called out in the past. She was given a solution that would have helped keep guests comfortable and chose not to proceed. We slept in our clothes because the bed was not clean. There were also dead bugs on the floor, and the rugs had not been vacuumed. Macy asked for pictures to show her housekeeper and apologized for the "ladybugs" (cockroaches). There was a coffeemaker provided--about 2 feet from the toilet. The jetted tub was older and based on the general uncleanliness of the room, we could not bring ourselves to use it. There was no shower. Due to these experiences, we chose to leave the B & B early the next morning and not stay the second night as planned. I texted Macy so she wouldn't have to provide breakfast. The town of Vicksburg was delightful and we enjoyed breakfast and coffee from Bohemia Cafe and Bakery, walked throughout downtown, viewed the Riverfront murals, shopped at a great indoor flea market, and visited the National Military Park. We had some wonderful BBQ from Big Bees and eventually resumed our leisurely journey. Upon arriving home, we found Macy had emailed us a voucher for a free night's stay at their property. Although I appreciate the gesture and admission of fault, we do not plan to stay there again and this is of no use to us. My husband called this week to discuss and Joe (the other owner) answered. Joe swore at my husband, and said we left early because "we just had somewhere to be" and that we should call our credit card company. Wow. The grounds are gorgeous. We believe the home has been well preserved and the river view from our balcony took us back in time. The neighborhood is sketchy. We are leaving this review to inform travelers such as ourselves: who simply wish for good service, clean rooms and hosts who take ownership of any misses. This visit was a miss. You decide if this is a place for you.

All the furniture is period specific and the wall coverings and rugs reflect the same. Many of these old mansions are drafty and damp, this was is not. They have spent the extra $ to ensure you have a comfortable stay. We stayed in the Master suite and it was incredible. Plenty of room and on the first floor makes it so convenient. Macy made us a pot of tea before breakfast on Sunday. Sunday morning breakfast was a very nice meal. Quiche, ham, hash brown casserole, biscuit and fruit. We were needing to leave before breakfast on Monday. Macy got up early on Monday morning and there was a pot of tea for us! Excellent service! I would recommend this venue to everybody.

Before the opening of the Silver Star Casino in 1994 the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians were a…read morepoor group of indigenous peoples. The main reservation is located on Highway 16, west of Philadelphia, MS. Pockets of their tribe live in the surrounding area, ownership which became part of the reservation. Innovation & vision by a businessman elected Tribal Chief led to construction of the Silver Star Casino & Hotel, which opened in 1994. A portion of the profits went back to tribal members, which immediately raised their standard of living. Choctaw Central, the school system for the reservation, immediately attracted the best teachers with the high salaries. Not only did the casino provide jobs for the reservation, it also provided well paying jobs for the surrounding small towns. Driving down the rural road in Mississippi, as one would approach the Silver Star, it felt like you were entering the "Twilight Zone". (Are any of you young enough to remember that TV series?). In the midst of rural land there stood a glitzy Las Vegas style casino & hotel with a marquee featuring big name talent. Life had changed for Neshoba & Newton counties. Entertainment was provided for east central Mississippi & western Alabama. I remember driving around the parking lot just to see the license plate locations of the people who had come to gamble. Busses were sent to towns for day trips to the casino. Limos were sent to the casinos on the Mississippi River to pick up high rollers. The reservation is not considered a part of the county. So liquor became available in the dry Neshoba County. Upscale restaurants surround the casino floor. But I love the buffet, which offers all you can eat homestyle Southern Cooking. Breakfast is phenomenal at the buffet. Shopping is located in the area between the hotel & casino floor. A Spa provides an additional amenity. Since we own my Grandfather's home & farmland about 15 minutes south, the draw of the casino floor became old. We would go for food & entertainment, some of which was located in stage areas on the casino floor. Once parking behind the Neshoba house after driving back from my Mother's house in town, we could see the laser show at the casino vividly in the rural darkness. My late husband, who wasn't familiar with the area, thought it was a UFO. :) Over the years the area has expanded. The Golden Moon was built across the road from the Silver Star providing new restaurants and a bar in the dome atop the structure where you can view a lot of Neshoba County. Additions also include 2 championship golf courses and a water park. In recent years a smaller Casino was opened in southern Mississippi. Another is planned for Louisville, MS. The complex is now called Pearl River Resort & the reservation is Choctaw, MS. After the majority of the tribe was forced to relocate to Oklahoma in the 1820's by the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, the remaining indigenous population deserves this prosperity.

Public Safety Alert: Menu Misrepresentation, Undisclosed Pork Concealed in Cajun Pasta at Bistro 24…read more On July 4, 2026, during a holiday trip from Georgia (5+ hour drive), my fiancée and I dined at Bistro 24 at Pearl River Resort. Having abstained from pork for over 30 years, I trusted the menu when ordering Cajun Pasta--a meatless base with a paid Chicken add-on. Unbeknownst to us, pork sausage was heavily concealed inside the thick Alfredo sauce and vegetable base. We elected carry-out containers after eating several bites and returned to our room with the intentions of getting some much needed rest. Hours later, my fiancée suffered acute gastrointestinal distress. I called front desk to be connected to Bistro 24, in hope of speaking directly to a manager or food representative, to no avail. Moments later I suffered severe biological rejection resulting in acute emesis upon our bedding. At that time I requested housekeeping. We were forced to get dressed and leave our room at the Silver Star Hotel to address the issue in-person at Bistro 24 inside the Golden Moon Casino. We confronted the manager and Executive Chef. The Chef openly admitted, in front of the manager, that he intentionally added pork sausage to the base because "everyone was asking for it to be", despite omitting it from the menu. This was a deliberate decision to alter a dish without disclosing a restricted protein. We filed an on-property complaint with resort security (Officer Iris, badge #47). Post-departure, we sent emailed complaints. Risk Management sent a Certified Mail package offering a nominal $500 each, conditional upon signing a Confidential Release Form. We rejected it. I offered a final window for them to outline their corrective menu policies, but they chose total silence. CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING: I urge anyone with severe food allergies, religious/spiritual beliefs, or dietary restrictions to exercise extreme caution here. When a kitchen intentionally conceals pork inside a base sauce without labeling it, it creates a high-risk environment. You cannot trust this menu. Due to the resort's total lack of accountability, I am formally escalating this to the Choctaw Gaming Commission and the Office of the Tribal Chief for a full regulatory audit. We intend to exhaust all available means to protect public safety from corporate entities that fail to acknowledge grievances and operate outside of policies meant to protect the public. The chairs we jammed in so tight you were…read moresitting on your neighbors lap, and so uncomfortable, it was litterally painful to sit in them after a half hour. Secondly, you just could not see the stage because there are hundreds of chairs, all on the same level. They had big screens to see the stage, but I paid for a live show, not a tv show.

I watched the dealers cheat, and the floor and gaming commission folks were made aware several times. Apparently the gaming commission is allowing the illegal activity to continue.

From the moment you walk in, the cowboy atmosphere takes over. I honestly don't even know where to…read morebegin. The cats at the front desk were an amazing touch. My wife and I just lost our cats to feline AIDS, so it was nice to have hope that an animal could still warm our hearts. The bellhop named AManDuh was very great at making sure we had everything we needed. AManDuh was a sweet girl and worked extra hours to pay for Flight Community College. Please remember to tip her well. My wife and I stayed in the Christmas in Dixie Suite and loved it. From the pink Christmas tree ok the floor to the Cowboy lamps, this room really gave us a memorable experience. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a change of scenery. We will be staying at the Hank's Hotel for every Airbonne conference we come to.
