My beloved two-year-old black leather boots were falling apart! The elastic panel on the outside of each boot had frayed and was stretched out of shape. Thinking that I could find a shoe repair place to remove the elastic and replace it with leather, I took the boots to a highly recommended shoe repair shop in Manhasset. "They can't be fixed. Throw them away!" said the Manhasset cobbler. But I knew there had to be someone who could do the job. So, I asked Siri, who sent me to Eagle Shoe Repair on Main Street in Port Washington. I told Michael, the owner of Eagle, about the Manhasset cobbler and said that I hoped I could find someone who would be up to the job. After telling me that the boots could indeed be fixed, Michael also told me was that he was a perfectionist and that even though the job wouldn't be cheap, it would be an expert job. He would save the life of my beloved boots! Michael measured my calf at three different places and even compensated for the bone that sticks out on the outside of the ankle, saying that he didn't want to put a seam in a place that would rub me the wrong way! I picked up my repaired boots this afternoon, and I want everyone to know about the incredibly beautiful job! The boots look like new! I had two pairs or dress shoes overhauled and they came out as good as new. Michael did a great job and mentioned that he also did tailoring. It just so happened that I had a high end leather jacket that was too big for me so I was going to give it away when I decided to show it to Michael and get his opinion. Well, I picked up the jacket yesterday and it came out fantastic. He basically rebuilt the jacket without any damage to the leather and charged a very fair price for a job that took him many hours. I've brought shoes, boots, and bags in varying states of disrepair to Michael and he has made everything look like new, or as close to new as possible. My favorite pair of boots and a bag that I've had for 20 years look fantastic. Michael also does excellent, quick alterations on clothing, as well as repairs to tears and rips on seams, or even off seam. I recently had a disappointing experience with Eagle Shoe Repair. Despite Michaels guarantee of a spotless cleaning for my Prada bag, it looked untouched when I picked it up. I paid $200 for a service that clearly wasn't delivered. When I called to express my dissatisfaction, the owner argued with me and refused any reimbursement.
