Renting a motorcycle from Kim and her awesome hangar on an airport couldn't have been more straight forward or painless... I called in the morning and had a beautiful Harley Davidson that afternoon, not to mention the necessary safety equipment included. Talking with Kim on the phone is like talking to someone you've known for years, very personable and down to earth. More like a friend, bizarre I know but she invited me on a ride with other customers and worked with me when I asked to extend. The only reason I could think of not renting with this establishment is if you are looking for the latest and greatest model of a particular bike. The selection here I would describe as a well maintained mix of semi-modern and classics cruisers. I also get the feeling the selection changes often so don't just go by the website, call and see what's available this week. In my opinion, Kim's establishment fits three types of customers perfectly 1) You're visiting DFW and just want to cruise on a good looking reliable bike 2) You're a sport bike rider who wants to try on some cruisers 3) You're a new rider figuring out the type or size of bike for you As for me, I fit in types 1 and 2. I inquired about a good beginner bike and he immediately asked me: "How tall is your wife?" - NO ONE had ever bothered to ask that, but as soon as Dusty did, we knew he was a true professional and we wanted to do business with him and his dealership. We ended up getting TWO bikes that day, by phone and the whole process was quick and hassle-free. The next day, the Lisa from their finance department contacted us and went over the finance & insurance options and she too, made it quick, easy and hassle-free. She sent us the documents overnight and we got our bikes delivered right to our driveway that same weekend. From working with Dusty on a Monday to getting the numbers with Lisa on Wednesday, with the help of their awesome management team, our two bikes were sitting on our driveway early Sunday night. Big D has a fine collection of different Norton, Triumph and other assorted bikes from the late-60s to the early-80s in immaculate restored condition. For the uninitiated, there is a slight learning curve involved in transitioning from a modern electric ignition bike with standardized shifting to a classic euro bike. First, there's no electric start. You'll be getting vigorously acquainted with a kickstarter on most of the models. Second, there is a variety of shift patterns, some are left side, some are right side, some are 1d5u, while others are 1u5d. Best of luck remembering. The last thing to remember about riding around on a loud, fast cafe racer from England is that the bikes of yesteryear shake. And how. It is not uncommon to arrive at a destination to find out your taillight is barely hanging on by the last thread of only one screw as it has backed out and is now trying to leave you. This is part of the allure of fun old bikes. You get to tinker. And who better to ask how to trick out your cafe racer than the staff of Big D. These guys regularly swing down to the Saltflats and have run streamliners and set records. They have bikes in fully restored conditioned, and in rolling frames. If you've got questions, they've got answers when it comes to the classics. This is a must-stop on a Saturday ride around the Metroplex.
