This parking situation is something that Barrington is trying to address, and they are trying to ensure that Barrington residences have "priority." I've never used the ATM - the window was either closed, or most recently, I used the Ventra app. To my favorite feature of the station: The Book Drop/Pick Up from the Barrington Area Library. This makes it much easier for me as my driving abilities are limited, and when something I request is ready, my partner can just pick it up on his way home from work at the train. For us, it is incredibly convenient in picking up and dropping off items. For someone who might have social anxiety, this is also a benefit - you can pick up/drop off anytime the station is open (5 am to 10 pm during the week). The day rate parking may be reasonable, but it definitely adds up for daily commuters. I believe it is $3/day.

I only saw one bike rack some distance away from the station. PACE bus pick up/drop off is at the rear of the station. Dedicated handicap drop off area. Station is fully handicap accessible. ATM is located in a somewhat private alcove area away from the main waiting area. In the main waiting area, there is an automated pick up/drop off area for the Barrington area public library. Great for picking up a movie for the evening or a book to read on the morning commute.

I met some guy and another guy here at the airport and after a little back and forth I was handed a small wad of cash and told to get a dark grey suit and a pair of "real shoes." three days later me and those guys and another guy are heading south to start my summer of disrepute. -- the airport has seen some serious improvements to the grounds and structures and everything since then and a person likely can't have that kind of fun anymore - probably shouldn't have had it then either but what can I say? it paid pretty good for a job that wasn't too jobby doing work that wasn't too worky...

This appears to be a privately operated "agency" location run by a shady character ("Jay???") in a well-worn, seedy looking strip mall off the main highway. I had a week-long business rental reserved with this Budget location scheduled for pickup at 8AM. Upon arrival at 8AM, the lights were off and the doors locked. Once he did finally decide to open the doors, the agent, who also calls himself "the owner," did not like my reserved rate and refused to honor it. I work for a large transportation company that does a huge amount of business with Avis/Budget. He adjusted my reservation to nearly SEVEN TIMES the booked rate and then wanted to run my credit card without even discussing it, other than to say it costs him more to have the car on his lot, whatever that means. I refused and called customer relations. As this is a private, non-Avis/Budget Group location, there was nothing that customer relations could do other than apologize. There appeared to be nearly no rental cars parked in the lot that I was able to identify. From reading other reviews (and you should too), it seems that this is pretty standard practice for this location...denial of rentals, adjustment of rates, not having cars available, etc. The office is run down and dirty. All the 4-5 star reviews appear to be years old. Most recent reviews are 1-star and it is obvious why. If you need a rental car in the northwest suburbs, you would be well advised to choose a different location, or perhaps a different company all together. Avis/Budget lost a customer this morning and I am going to have a lengthy conversation with our corporate travel department about removing Avis/Budget as a rental car vendor for our entire company of 130,000+ employees.

One of the big reasons to take a ride at this or the Palatine train stations is that trains stop by here more frequently both inbound and outbound (especially on weekdays), and this is one of the stops that trains from the city will stop in later in the day (be aware of the last train out of the city if you head in from a smaller station).

The most frustrating part is that the hours that are posted often don't match the hours that the train station is open. On this Saturday morning, I was pleasantly surprised that the station was open. My husband and I were able to wait for the train in the warmth of the station instead of the cold and windy platform. The Metra Arlington Heights Station is still one of the most used stations on the line. The profitability of the train and the growth and success of the Village of Arlington Heights have always been closely linked. William Dunton sold part of his land in Arlington Heights to the entice the train line to come to Arlington Heights and help ensure the future of Arlington Heights. The train brought many people to the village to settle. People found the train a convenient way to live in the suburbs and still work in Chicago. Close to 200 years later this is still the case. With the Chicago Bears moving to Arlington Heights, the train will become even more important to the success of both the village and the football team.
