This review is for the cabins, not the restaurant. The cabin has lots of room for improvement. The oven didn't work, the fridge was either warm and smelled like old fish or, with the tiniest adjustment, froze our food, most of which had to be thrown away. The entire cabin seemed off level and had spots where it seemed like the floor was sunk in. It's not as advertised. The only reason to give this any stars is that the owner was nice and they offer free firewood.

They've been around a while, or the cabins wouldn't be so close to the water. You couldn't build a resort so close to the shore nowadays. But way back when, Bob (yes, there was a Bob) built these small, humble, unassuming little pieces of paradise, and you get to enjoy them. The website is clear: the cabins are clean, spare, with some couches and/or easy chairs depending on the cabin, with a simple but entirely adequate kitchen. Really, it's all about the lake. You get to be right on Lake Superior, whether it's glassy or roaring, and you get to take it all in. As luck would have it, the owners are charming as well, friendly and easily available. My only reluctance in writing this review is that it make it harder to make a reservation. It's that good.

The resort was very understanding and allowed us to cancel day-of and not charge a penalty. While we can't comment on the facilities at the resort, the friendliness of the staff was truly amazing. We stayed in a pet friendly Lake Home Guest Room, and the room itself was nice. It had a queen bed, a twin bed, a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a big bathroom. One thing to note is that the entrance to the neighboring guest room is right next to your door. We were lucky the first night and had no neighbors, but the second night we did and my dog barked at every footstep she heard. Next time, out of respect for our neighbors (and to give our dog more space) we'd probably opt for a pet friendly cabin instead. One nice thing about the guestroom is that you do have a view of the lake. Unfortunately, the restaurant was just okay. We ordered takeout for both dinner and breakfast, and while it was fine, nothing really stood out. I was really looking forward to using the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Sadly, the pool was closed during our stay. The hot tub was open, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the bubbles on, which was a bit of a letdown. The lodge does seem to offer great amenities like bonfire pits and s'mores, which we were excited about. Unfortunately, they weren't out while we were there. I know these are weather dependent, but the weather didn't seem that bad while we were there. The staff were incredible, everyone from the front desk to the restaurant were nice and accommodating to any request we needed.

The rooms still need a little work when it comes to the sofa beds. I really appreciate that there's a floor dedicated to my dog friends; I don't have one myself, but they're my friends anyway. Just one comment about the bathroom sink: the drain was completely clogged--as if it hadn't been cleared for months--and it was disgusting. Luckily, Kelly was kind enough to take care of the situation right away. See you next year.

All of the common areas, including the two tiny guest elevators were consistently full of dogs. The hallways, the deck with the fire pits, sports court and game area, the parking lot, the lawn- all full of dogs. Perhaps great for dog owners, not so great for those of us with allergies or if you just don't stay at hotels to share space with dogs. Two- Our supposed "non-pet friendly" room was shoddy (see photos) with dirty carpet, a huge water damage stain on the ceiling and an accompaniment of fleas. You cannot allow pets throughout the property and expect to keep fleas and ticks contained in certain rooms. There was a tiny walk-in shower (photos) with only one glass panel. I understand that some large walk-in showers do not have door(s). But this one is far too small for that. No door to close on this just meant lots of water on the bathroom floor. Three- the staff was rude. Enough has been said here in other reviews about the bad behavior of the staff, so I feel no need to add another nasty story. Four- Silo, the on site restaurant was booked solid with groups that were not even staying at the hotel. The restaurant staff would not seat us, because the tables were all reserved. We were also told that this meant no in-room service. We and the other guests of the hotel waiting in line were told that we would have to go elsewhere or call some establishment that will deliver. I would only recommend this place to people who lie down with dogs. It's Motel 6 with a view.

We aren't great at planning ahead…read moreso we scramble to find a campground.t he state parks are always booked months in advance, so it's the small private campgrounds in the area we enjoy. This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.
