I've been to Earls a decent amount of times over the past 5 months. Typically, after having an event downtown, we'll come to Earls to take full advantage of the happy hour food and drink menu, which is really superb. I've been by to have cheap draughts and shafts, and consider this Earls to be a great spot to kick back and hang out with some friends in downtown Victoria. Plus, with it being so central, you can walk anywhere from here and it won't take you too long. Also, have to say, violin-playing Darth Vader usually hangs out just down the street from here so if you're looking for something REALLY unique and exciting, check him out! Today, I kicked off Victoria's AMAZING patio season by heading over to Earls and enjoying a couple glasses of wine with some good friends. I also had a plate of yam fries, which have an absolutely amazing texture, with even better seasoning. Altogether, it ended up only being about $17 for 2 6oz glasses of their Rascal blended white wine and the (non-happy hour) yam fries. Definitely worth the experience! I have quite a few friends who work at this location, however, I've never been served by one. I'm kind of okay with this, considering it allows me to view the experience more objectively. That being said, I have always had really great service and today, my awesome service was by Janine, who was always popping by to make sure that we had everything that we needed. She was attentive and handled her portion of the patio with ease, plus she wasn't overbearing at any point, which is extremely important to me. As an added bit of convenience, when we asked for our bills, she had already split them all up perfectly and had them waiting in her serving apron. This was a good spot to have lunch. Dee was really the best server. She was knowledgeable and very personable. It's important to find good people to connect when you're visiting a city. It makes my heart Happy and leaves a good experience in my memory bank. So when I think of Earl's I will remember the good food. I have never once had a bad experience at this Earl's location. I've celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and plenty of girls nights at this location, and every time was awesome. I have to give kudos to their servers, because I have never once received bad service from their staff. Food wise, you can never really go wrong. Their chili chicken, spinach dip and clam chowder are my favourite appies. As for mains, their Californian pizza, fish tacos, and Cajun chicken burger are must-trys. My personal fave is their chicken, Brie and fig sandwich - so much flavour and unexpected juiciness! Drink wise, they have one of the best happy hours in town! Wine, Moscow Mules, shafts... you can never really go wrong. Earls Victoria is a perfect spot for happy hour, late night happy hour, girls night, and birthday occasions. Nice atmosphere, pretty decent service but the food doesn't quite measure up to its sleek surroundings. I've been here in the past, and have always found the food pretty decent but not this time. I ordered the steak/frites. Arrived a little too raw for me, so I sent it back and it came back dry and tasteless. It was screaming for some kind of sauce. When you find yourself dipping your steak into the ketchup bowl (a cardinal sin) to try and get a bit of flavor, that's saying something. The frites were akin to McDonalds (where they just call them fries). My friend ordered the clam chowder which was thin and watery. The salad that came with it was good though. With all the choices we have downtown Victoria, I'll be giving Earls a skip the rest of my trip. read more

Ended up here at 9:30 after arriving in Victoria and striking out on our first two restaurants because they wouldn't seat kids past 8pm. A nice restaurant in trendy downtown Victoria. Very popular amongst young people and families alike. They serve a great Caesar salad along with steak and fries. It's very conveniently located in the Bay Centre and is a place you can go after a day of shopping downtown. I loved this place for it's great outdoor seating! It's in the heart of downtown and great for people watching. We also loved the half price happy hour pitchers of mojioto's and think we went through at least 3 between just 4 of us. The happy hour menu is limited so we just ordered 2 of everything; garlic fries, leroy's crispy ribs and warm spinach + 3 cheese Dip. All were delicious. The best part was that they let us order happy hour at the tables outside, which is rare in Portland, Oregon, where we came from. That may because our really nice server pulled some strings. Had the Yucatán chicken tacos. If you like a little spice they are awesome. We sat at the bar and the waitresses were fast and attentive. We have come to Victoria several times for a weekend away and always find we hit Earles at least once. The energy of the restaurant is upscale and lively. They sell a cookbook and I know why. For a big chain, Early does an awesome job and providing tasty affordable food in a fun and funky space. From the sleek onyx entry to the industrial light fixtures, to the big cozy booths, this is one of the nicest looking restaurants in Victoria. Food is typical bar fare. Some salad options, great appetizers and burgers and other greasier but irresistible options. The cocktail menu leaves a little to be desired though. And while I wouldn't consider the Caesar a fancy cocktail, it's a Canadian staple. Because we don't really have them in the US I really wanted to try one. And well, because Earl's is a big well known Canadian brand so I was sure I'd get something rad. Unfortunately though, it was lacking in flavor big time. Don't get me wrong, it's not that it wasn't drinkable, it was just a little boring. I came back a few days later for a cocktail competition and non-Earl's employees made Caesar's as a part of it (using Earl's ingredients and bar set up) and the one I got that night was 5x better. Had more heat, more robust flavors, and some extra garnishes. I'll still order the Caesar but might ask for them to spice it up a tiny but more next time. Centrally located, vast array to choose from off the menu, good food and a warm staff. Earl's proved to be a place to stop for happy hour and eat a refreshing meal. Originally from Boston, I know a great clam chowder. I was surprised by the heartiness of this chowder with small cut up carrots, celery, ample clams, and fresh herbs. Absolutely worth trying! 3/23/15. Lunch We stumbled upon this swanky restaurant and bar walking from the waterfront on Wharf Street through Bastion Square. It was great Earls was still open during that awkward hour between lunch and dinner, with *full bar*, yay! The hostess greeted us warmly when we were reading the menu outside. We were then led to the modern hip dining room with all cozy leather chairs no matter where you sit. *Drinks were delicious and relaxing especially after the long drive from Swartz Bay where we disembarked the BC Ferries from Vancouver. Moscow Mule ($9) was served appropriately in a copper glass with handle. Topped with mint leaves. Cosmopolitan ($9) is a beautiful pink. Perfectly done. Canadian food is much like American in the way it embraces the diversity of cuisines of its inhabitants. The Earls menu also reflects this diversity: Indian food, Cajun dish, fish and chips, tacos, pizzas, and steak. *Truffle Fries ($8) very crispy and good slim pomme frite with garlic aioli. Served in in a small metal bucket on a wood skillet. Perfect to go with cocktails. *Grilled Chicken Caesar ($15) has a choice of either grilled or garlic chicken. Garlic chicken is a thinly sliced chicken rubbed with garlic. A generous portion of mixed greens and romaine with a special house Caesar's dressing. The croutons are made from brioche. *Jeera Chicken Curry ($17.75) is the special du jour. A huge portion of authentic Indian curry chicken stew. The curry is piping hot with a little tart-sweet flavor. Perfect comfort food for the cold day. Jasmine rice has a coconut fragrance to it. Naan bread to sop up all the curry. Service is impeccable. Water glasses promptly filled. Waitress is very attentive but not intrusive. We love this place and would like to spend more time just chatting and sipping drinks in this swanky setting. read more

Went here twice during a week in Victoria BC. This location sits on a corner on Government Street, which is the most expensive rent in the city, I'm told. And it's a huge location. Sat at the bar both times, and the bar patrons were very friendly. Lots of cheers, and even recommendations on what to get. So here's what I was recommended: 1. The happy hour pizza. Yes, pepperoni and mushrooms are extra, but the cheese pizza for $5, fresh from the oven, is delicious. And the $1.50 or whatever you'll spend for the toppings (each) is totally worth it. This hit the spot. 2. The onion rings. Lots of people had these at the bar, and they looked huge and filling. 3. The wings. The wings ordered by the lady next to me looked like a small portion, and the person ordering it didn't feel it was worth it. It was a jerk chicken sauce if I remember right. 4. The chicken tacos and fish tacos. I had these, and they were good, a little on the bland (not spicy at all, by any measure), but were fresh and a good deal on the happy hour menu. The restaurant was packed most days I visited and seems to be very popular. But I didn't feel that the service, or the food, were worthy of higher than midlevel, hence the three stars. read more

Came to Victoria as a stop from our cruise. Unfortunately, all the shops were already closed so all there was to do was eat. We stubbled across this place and weren't sure what to expect. The atmosphere was a bit bar and club mixed and their music was way to loud which is why they didn't get a five star rating. However their food was good! Often times being a vegetarian limits your options on what you can eat so it's great finding places that have good options. The veggie burger here was huge and tasted great! I would recommend this place for a night out but not for s family dinner. read more

When I order a Caesar said with a chicken breast and it costs almost $20, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect it to be more than a third of a head of lettuce and a full chicken breast. I wish that I had a photo to share the sadness of my salad. It really costs little more to use a whole head of lettuce in a Caesar salad, especially when you're charging what you do for it. It is doubtful that I will be back. read more

Rats?!. While the beers were great and the daily deal was awesome (4$ for local drafts sleeves) our experience ended up in a bad way: while finishing our last drinks we saw a mouse running in the middle of the lounge floor! When we brought this to the bartender/manager attention the only thing we heard was "thank you for letting us know, but this is a common problem in Victoria". Seriously? Rats are a common problem in bars here? I doubt it. And after paying for the entire bill (!) We left and came back to our hotel, and the only thing wr could talk about because all wr could think was it, was how disgusting it was our visit. So, instead of having a great last night out in Victoria, we had a horrible experience. It is a shame to have this in our minds when we love going to Earls! read more

She spent the majority of the evening making googleys eyes at the bartender, took forever to take our order and tried to cut us off and leave before taking the full order. Like I mentioned it was slow so she and I chatted a bit...I'm pretty sure there was flirtation...and she kept the Stella's coming. I ate the Chicken and Brie ciabbata with sauteed apples and spinach...REALLY good...and fries which were a bit greasy but washed down nicely with beer. I was almost sad when I finished as I would have to leave my bartendress..we had become so close...but alas server to patron flirtation can only last so long before you just have to leave her a huge tip and walk away...feeling a bit used as the beer buzz wears off because you know she just worked you over for the last hour so she would get that big tip..dammit..I fall for it every time..oh well..it was a most pleasant dinning alone experience! We dropped into Earl's for dinner after a hard day of sight-seeing. The (attractive) hostesses offered to seat us immediately in the bar area or we could wait for a table in a quieter part of the restaurant. Not being in any hurry, we elected to wait for about 10-15 minutes. The chairs are actually more like armless loveseat benches, which was cute although they will slide on the floor if you aren't careful. There was an extensive cocktail and wine menu, and likely beer as well, but we opted to preserve our livers this time around. I ordered the chicken and brie sandwich, my friend had the prawn tacos, and we shared a rocket salad. The salad was incredible! Beets, arugula, walnuts, goat cheese. I could've eaten the whole thing and asked for more. The chicken sandwich was quite good, although the fig jam was a little heavy for my taste. My friend seemed to enjoy her prawn taco and the spicy sauce that came with it. Walking in, I expected it to be a nice upscale bar type place with ok food and eye candy. All of the above is true, except the food is quite impressive. The bathrooms are also very swanky and have amusing definitions printed on the doors. Better yet, everything was reasonably priced and dinner for two was under $40 (without drinks). read more

The food here was really tasty and right up our alley. We're from Portland Oregon and it seriously met what I was expecting. I only give this a 3 star due to the lack of service we got. The waitress was too busy to check in on us. We waited maybe 10 minutes after our apps to get our actual order in. Never refilled my soda (this reaaaally threw her off, make sure you say POP) she was very nice in general just check on your tables more often! Otherwise check it out and get the chicken sandwhich sliders had a little kick and the roasted salmon was so bomb! Had a garlic dill aioli with jasmine rice....so good!
