I've been here twice now over the course of a few years. If I based it off the first time I went, I would probably give this place a 4.5/5. Based off the last time I went, I would say it lands more around the 4/5 range. Definitely a good place to check out and the food is delicious, but there are some things to point out. First off, this place is usually pretty busy on weekends during the brunch hours. I definitely recommend placing yourself on the waitlist using Yelp to help reduce the wait time. When I place my name in, it took about 30 minutes before I was able to be seated. Not too bad. I recall the first time taking much longer than that. Their menu is pretty straight forward. Pretty typical breakfast foods. However, I do highly recommend the churro waffle as it is amazing and so delicious! It is not cloyingly sweet, but sweet enough to satisfy any sweet tooth you may or may not have. The bananas and cream on top made it amazing. Think of it as a Disneyland churro with some whipped cream and bananas with it. That's essentially what the churro waffle here was like. Another item that is worth noting is the lomo saltado. I've had this dish at multiple other places, but this place offers it with a breakfast twist. They add avocados and eggs instead of the traditional white rice. I guess that makes sense since avocados and eggs are definitely more 'breakfast' food than rice. However, all the flavors were great! The beef cubes were not the biggest cubes and there weren't a lot of pieces. But I guess that's to be expected. The reason why this place is not a 5 in my book is because of the price. From the first time I came here to now (3 years later), the prices have gone up significantly. I guess everything has gone up in price, but it's usually pretty hard for me to justify paying upwards of $20 for breakfast/brunch food. The portions don't warrant it in my opinion. Places like Snooze will be close in price, but they give more food which makes it seem a little more worth it. Anyways, to give you perspective... $14.50 for churro waffles and $17.50 for lomo saltado. Not cheap, but eh. I'm assuming that's why this place isn't nearly as busy as I remember it years ago. Just wanted to make that known in case you're looking to try this place out. Overall, it's a good date spot for brunch. They offer good food, but you'll pay for it. read more

This review is solely about the buckwheat pancake. I had it delivered, so I'm not speaking to the restaurant or the service. It was..... I'll just say, not great. The best part was the walnuts and the caramel sauce I occasionally dipped into. I applaud them for offering it, cause buckwheat pancakes are hard to find. Unfortunately, I won't be returning for it. When you read this on the table you it doesn't say that everyone who orders eggs will receive the surcharge. You think it's just a one time surcharge. No ...everyone got charged the surcharge. Early bird has a mom and pop vibe. Nothing fancy but the foood is soooooo gooooood. I've been here several times it's my favorite go to breakfast spot in brea. Service is great. They have mimosas and they are soooo yummy many different flavor choices too made with REAL FRUIT. Yummmyyyy you can never ever go wrong with the waffles, lomo saltado, chilaquiles, rancho egg Benedict (which I replace the bread with portabella mushroom and it's soooooo fire) Honestly I just love this place. Always great food and service at Early Bird. Their Cafe de Olla and Waffles is why I always want to come back to this restaurant for breakfast. Waitress constantly comes around refilling the Cafe de Olla. Waffles have this crisp to them that is unique and delicious think about it as a funnel cake made into a waffle. Green Chilaquiles are also great, big portion by the way. If they can make them just a tad bit more spicy by adding a little bit more Serrano or Jalapeño that would be perfect. This place can be packed quick but you can join their Yelp waitlist. Place is located on the right side of the building when you see Stater bros. Parking isn't terrible because the plaza is pretty spacious. The place itself is small and quaint. The workers were really sweet and attentive even when it's busy. You can't go wrong with anything you choose but my favorite was the Lomo Saltado and the churro waffles which was straight fire. Genuinely very disappointed in this place. With the great reviews I was hoping for more, more attention, more flavor, more everything. Wait is FOREVER, they'll sit you there and not even acknowledge you. Took like 15 mins before someone even came to our table. Luckily we knew what we wanted by the time we had someone bother to come help us. Food took almost 40 mins to get here everything tasted bland and not flavorful. No one ever checked in on us, no one ever came to even give us our check we had to go up the the register. Want to wash your hands and use the restroom afterwards? Don't bother. The women's restroom toilet was full of and the toilet couldn't be flushed it just spins around. Absolute horrible experience yesterday. Came in at 10:30am and it took us about 15 minutes to even get acknowledged and another 15 to even get our water and get our order in... We wanted to get an extra plate and some extra napkins on two separate occasions. The young kid with the curly hair and hat made eye contact with us several times but acted like he didn't see us. To make matters worse, we find a hair in the Lomo Saltado. This establishment has really gone down the drain over the past few years. I think they were at a 4.4-4.5 star rating before but clearly I'm not the only one noticing the steady decline of service and quality. The wait definitely was much shorter than it looked when you put your name down on the Yelp waitlist! Extra bonus that you don't have to be within 5-mile radius in order to put your name down! Early Bird is a small little restaurant in a large strip mall. For the size of the restaurant, they actually packed a lot of tables AND action! My girlfriend and I were seated near the entrance, but we were just glad that we didn't have to be outside in the heat. We ordered the pork belly benedict and shared the oreo waffle (waffle of the week!). I normally am not a benedict person, but did really like the pork belly benedict. Perhaps because it didn't have too much hollandaise sauce? I do wish the Oreo waffle had a bit more oreo in it, but I preferred that the waffle wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. Portions did look small, but we struggled to finish the 2 small dishes, they are more filling than it seems! One thing I wish Early Bird would do better, is to have a more extensive beverage menu. I think the tomato could've been seared or broiled a bit longer, but everything else was great, especially that churro waffle.
