Palapas has gone under new ownership and it's not for the better. This was my weekly go to Taco Tuesday place, but new ownership has gotten rid of the daily deals. The prices have doubled and the quality of the tacos has gone down. The guacamole is watery and tastes gross. I went out for dinner with my mother and sister to Palapas restaurant it did not disappoint. We got a plate of Birria Nachos and two Carne asada sopes with a side of rice and beans. The owner was in last night and she gave us consomé on the house and for dessert she gave us a slice of their delicious creamy flan. Dropped by on a whim (with the help of Yelp locator) and was interested in the birria ramen, which was something that I wanted to try at foodie fests but didn't get a chance to. The restaurant is modern but cozy. The music is loud which makes it a fun casual place to take your friends and family. Service takes place at the counter and they take your order to your table if you decide to eat in. The day was beautiful so I chose to eat outside at the covered patio. The ramen was hella good! It came out in a Tapatio ramen bowl but hacked the stock with the consomme and the birria. My order even came with a queso birria so I can try the meat in a taco form. It is also delicious so so ordering the queso birria tacos on their own is a good choice. After ordering a gobenador taco and eating both tacos, I was very full. It is a lot of food! Because the ramen is sold in the ramen cup, they don't have a lid or a container with a lid so be forewarn if you want to bring the soup home. I found this place during COVID and thought it was pretty good. To my surprise, my family went in today and found out it's under new ownership. The person who attended us was so lovely and helpful. Her name was Alma, she was very friendly, answered our questions, and told us it had been under new owners for about a year now. Went for a quick bite on taco Tuesday ($1.90) each taco. It was nice and clean inside and we were greeted and seated quickly by the woman in the front. She was the only server there but it also wasn't very busy, only one other person there. She was very attentive, and took our order right away. So that was very nice. The food took about 15 minutes to come out, between my girlfriend and I we ordered 3 tacos al pastor, 2 asada and 3 carnitas, so 4 tacos each. Flavor wise they were "meh" , I was actually kind of disappointed . They were actually kind of small and they were street tacos with "hand made" tortillas but the tortillas weren't doubled so it made the tacos feel even smaller. The salsa had no spiciness only the red had any kick to it. The Agua de horchata was very good and sweet , great flavor. It was $4 for a regular size cup. Got together with the girls for a much needed Sunday Brunch and it did not disappoint...well for the most part. We arrived at 11am and waited about 20 min or so not bad considering it was a Sunday and it was pretty busy. The place itself is not very big in fact its pretty small so minus the 1 star for that. There is plenty of parking in an adjacent parking lot and it's free.We were seated in their patio area which is also not very big , it was shaded but unfortunately it was a hot day and it was toasty. Servers were attentive, efficient and personable. Everyone enjoyed their food and portions are a decent size. We shared the mimosa flight and they were just ok for me not very strong but I guess it is just a miimosa lol-next time I'll try a drink drink ;) overall a fun brunch and I would recommend to come check them out!! read more

So disappointed. We ate here back in December and the food was amazing. Best carnitas I have ever had. The prices were fair as well. We revisited today and the entire experience has changed. First, they changed from fast-casual to full dining. Which is fine. The staff are all attentive and friendly. Great service. However, they have a new chef (since January) who changed the menu entirely. The prices more than doubled. The portions shrank a lot. The salsa bar is gone. The carnitas were bland- worse than store-bought packaged. Beans and rice are inexpensive, yet there was maybe 2-3 spoonfuls on our taco combo plate. Ridiculous. The huevos rancheros was basically just 2 eggs and a crisp tortilla with some sauce. Barely any beans. The chicken & waffles had the tiniest of portion of dried out fried chicken. It was a small piece sliced and stacked to look larger. The prices are just too high for what you get. $20 for huevos rancheros that was literally a snack size. They actually have the nerve to charge $18 for 3 pancakes! Honestly, I hate being this harsh. I prefer to praise restaurants, but the experience was so bad I have to warn others. It was not on the menu of prices ranging from $15-$30+. Seemed only Chef Ramsey &Wolfgang Puck entrees were offered. Dishes were served one at a time with several minutes in between. Once served dishes were more artistic than flavorful. I understood price, preparation timeframe and delay in finally eating. Chef does not understand basic over medium egg. I felt embarrassed to return the running egg and cold house potatoes. The water was good. My company enjoyed their's but felt bad at waiting for others to be served before eating themselves. They serve them in plates of 5 and I had 2 plates. tried their carne asada, chicken, and al pastor. The flavors were good and have a fair serving per taco. I tried their green mild and hot salsas, I preferred the mild one. The al pastor and asada had some chewy fatty bits but it didn't bother me too much. I did get pretty full around taco 7 tho. I left full and satisfied. I came in around 2pm, so the restaurant was pretty empty. However, the place was clean and the staff were friendly. Palapas is a great local spot for your taco special needs! It was Halloween and I was looking for a quick something to pick up before trick or treating and I noticed palapas has GREAT specials like some days all you can eat tacos, but one get one for a lesser price burritos and daily specials so that initially peaked my interest. When I was going over their menu I saw a birria pizza. So all the specials went out the window and that's what I landed on. A 25-30 minute wait later I was handed my pizzas. They were made to order and came with limes, radishes and hot sauce. If you want consome you have to purchase that separately. This birria pizza was packed. I didn't think 8 pieces would have been enough for our bunch but it was more than. Each slice was very hearty. I have to say tho I've had better birria but the concept was fun and a nice change to your taco routine. read more

Came here on Taco Tuesday after we couldn't get seated at Revolucion Cantina. We looked for nearby taco spots and this place had nearly 2k and 4.5+ star reviews on Google, so we decided to come here. I definitely should've confirmed this on Yelp first and not just trusted the Google reviews. We entered and got in line to order, as we'd seen others who got there before us do. When we ordered, they asked if we wanted to dine in or do take out, we wanted to dine in. Then, instead of taking our order, they handed us menus and told us to take a seat and that someone would come by to help us. We took at seat at a nearby table and waited patiently for someone to come. 20+ mins later, still no one (and there'd been plenty of people walking by our table this entire time). We noticed EVERYONE ordering at the counter, even if they were dining in, so we thought it was really weird that we couldn't. After a long wait, we decided to just go back in line at the counter to place an order. We met with the same woman as before, who finally took our order this time (although she did not acknowledge at all that she'd told us to sit down earlier). After placing the order, it took another half an hour to receive our food! At this point we were starving and just wanted to eat. They kept confusing our order with others and we kept having to repeat what we'd gotten. We got our tacos but they'd forgotten my order of guac and chicharones, so that didn't come until way later. The tacos were decent, but if I'm really honest they were just subpar and nothing special. The sauces were also the same as well, and I found them to be on the bland side. When the guac came out, it was watery and soggy and just didn't feel fresh at all. And the chicharrones, perhaps the biggest disappointment of it all. It was NOT like normal chicharrones but more so like soft, chewy pork belly! There was no skin at all, no crunch or crispiness, and it was barely fried. The only downside was that both of them were lukewarm, but I can't blame them because they have their BOGO/$8 per burrito deals on Wednesdays and Thursdays, according to their Instagram. On Uber Eats, it's $14 for two. With tax, it's not too shabby. Also, there was a 20% coupon attached. The burritos came with napkins and 4 salsas--2 red and 2 green. All of them are quite spicy, but I'm glad they have variety and let me try one of each. The burritos were nicely wrapped and shaped, and they tasted okay. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something affordable and filling because I struggled to finish one. Nothing too special, but it satisfied a hungry tummy. Waiter was friendly and all, but took ages to place in orders. Orders took about 30+ minutes to come out when restaurant was moderately seated. Now comes the food. Pretty lackluster and far from anything your madre or abuela could whip up. Ordered the chilaquiles molcajete And cajeta French toast. The molcajete was dry and hot and cold in different spots. The meat ratio was also skimp for $34 price tag. The carne was so dry it was practically Machaca (dried Mexican meat). Also first time I've been to a restaurant where the mocajete was not even a real stone bowl but a plastic one. The cajeta French toast was decent but nothing worth mentioning. We just happened to stumble upon this place because we went to the bank across the street. Normally I check out the Yelp reviews anytime I go to a new restaurant but I didn't today and I'm glad. Several negative reviews but honestly, we had a great time today. Parked right in front, no line, we were told to sit anywhere when we said it was for here, Jessica promptly brought us menus and she was so attentive the whole time. Yes, the food was expensive but hooray for us, it was Taco Tuesday and tacos were $2.50 each! Still a lot but the combo with rice, beans and three tacos is $16 so we saved some money. The tacos were amazing, but the only issue I had was that they were falling apart because only one tortilla was used for each taco. Most authentic places I go to give two tortillas. Jessica did tell us that after 5pm, the tortillas are handmade so of course we'll be back next week! Price goes up to 3 for $10, I'm sure they'll be worth it. They have a beautiful palapa outside with a fan and lots of seating but we were plenty fine inside with the a/c. Brenda, our server, was very helpful and attentive. I got the chilaquiles plate with steak and eggs. They tortilla chips were crispy with the right amount of ranchero sauce. I wish I was as "wow"ed as the tik tok video that brought us here made it seem. We literally took a 300+ mile each way weekend trip with this place specifically in mind, but luckily we always have something else to do around these parts otherwise I'd have been quite mad. The place is small and busy, there's quite a few staff running around but even they said "hold on let me see if we can seat you because the kitchen is backed up right now." We grabbed a seat on the patio and were quickly served chips and dip and within a few minutes a waiter came to get our drinks order. We had a few different waiters come by and they were all nice and attentive. We ordered the cafe de olla, the famous molcajete chil (the whole reason we came here) and a chilaquiles torta. I was quite disappointed that the coffee is served in a to-go cup, maybe they were all out of regular cups but it made it seem like the drinks are an afterthought. The molcajete was served in a plastic knock off, not an actual stone bowl, but presentation was nice otherwise. The torta was also presented really well. I was not a huge fan of the food, but we were both starving, and bf said he really liked his (except he only finished about half of his food so... hmmm..... not sure I believe him.) I feel the prices are a little high for what it is, the famous tik tok molcajete was $34, we spent a total of $80 for two with tip. Unless a friend REALLY wants to come here I will likely not be visiting again, but it was an experience we had to say we checked off our "tik tok made me do it" list. read more
