I've been here several times in the past back when I was really into Benedicts, and this place made some delicious ones. The pork belly Bennie used to be my go-to every time. But now that I've kind of moved on from my Bennie phase, I found myself staring at the menu wondering what to order instead. After going back and forth for a while, I decided on the Serrano Chicken Sandwich - and it ended up being a great choice according to our server. It had a really nice spicy kick, and I especially loved the crunchy onions that added extra texture to every bite. I picked the mixed greens salad as my side, though the dressing made it a little too sour for my taste so I couldn't finish it. My boyfriend, who's a big omelette person, ordered the veggie omelette. It was decent, though I do wish they offered more than just 4 omelette options on the menu. Overall, still a good brunch spot with good food and a nice atmosphere.

HUGE fruity pebble pancake, SO good. Their syrup is different, it's amazing but it not a regular syrup from the store. All the food is bomb. Salmon Benedict, decent size too. Service is quick. Only downside is the hours and that since it's smaller, the tables are SO close together. Def packed in tight. Wish it was open past 2:30 but makes sense for a bfast place

I loved the food. Chicken and waffles soooo good. I love that everything is freshly made and organic. The sausage and gravy was really good and made from scratch. Dont miss out on the champagne flight, you get jars not glasses lol. Loved the guava. Reason for 3 stars is service is not the best. Its young kids that seem to be poorly trained. They dont have the proper etiquette as for as service. We had to ask for everything such as silverware menus and drinks. They need to be more attentive and aware of their tables.

It was okay, but not somewhere I'd return. We waited about 30 minutes for our food, and since we sat outside, service felt less attentive. I also waited a while for a hot chocolate refill, but they don't offer refills. The $14 waffle was fine but overpriced for not coming with a side. The "skillet potatoes" were more like garlic fries, which I didn't like. My friend's chicken sandwich was a little soft and greasy, but she did enjoy the fries and ranch. The hot chocolate was the highlight. Overall, underwhelming for the price.

The brunch here is good, but I wouldn't consider it well-valued. I ordered a Benny Sampler for $25, which comes with three eggs bennys and a side of potatoes. The bennys were traditional, rancho, and pork belly. The traditional ham was dry and tough to cut through. The pork belly was tender, but had an odd inclusion of pickles. The rancho was great with tender carnitas and avocado sauce. Also ordered the breakfast burrito ($18), which included eggs, bacon, hashbrowns. It was mostly filled with hashbrowns/eggs, and limited bacon. The accompanying green sauce was a good dip. Egg Surcharge - FYI there was a $2 egg surcharge for ordering items with eggs. I understand that egg prices were sky high during the shortage, which would justify the fee. However, egg prices have come down since then. The owner needs to consider the marginal fluctuation in egg prices as the "cost of doing business". Don't spring that undisclosed fee onto customers.

I visited Early Bird on a random Wednesday to grab brunch with my mom, and what a wonderful place it turned out to be! Early Bird is a seat yourself type of location, or at least that's how it was when we visited. I grabbed a couple of menus and found a table for my mom and me. My mom ordered a hot house coffee and I got a latte. My mom said that their house coffee was good, which is a crazy good compliment coming from her! The food itself was also very delicious and the price did not break the wallet. Again, when I went, it was relatively quiet (maybe only one or two other parties there), but our server was still very attentive. I believe her name was Cassie or something along those lines? She was absolutely wonderful and so sweet! I can't wait to swing by for some brunch again soon :) Definitely suggest giving them a try if you're in the area!

Service: Our service was amazing! We are definitely going to be coming back! Food: All of the food was so good. The Benedict was our favorite. The loaded fries were very salty. Seems like there was like a lot of soy sauce. Outside: They have a lot of parking and had a few tables outside. Inside: They have a decent amount of tables considering the size of the restaurant. It is decorated very cute and pleasing. It was very clean.

Early Bird is one of my new favorite breakfast spots! It's definitely a busy place, but the nice thing is Yelp gives you the option to join the waitlist ahead of time, which made the process super convenient. The food was delicious. I ordered the Churro Waffle, which was perfectly balanced--not overly sweet--and the added butter on the side was a nice touch. I especially enjoyed the bananas on top, though I do wish there were a few more of them. I also tried the turkey sandwich on sourdough with sweet potato fries, and it was amazing. The combination of Gouda cheese and the aïoli gave it a rich, savory flavor that really stood out. On top of the great food, the staff was kind, friendly, and very attentive, which made the busy atmosphere feel relaxed and welcoming. If you're looking for a great breakfast or brunch spot, I'd definitely recommend checking out Early Bird!

Benedict with avocado instead of ham

Because of how many reviews this place had, I had higher expectations. However , this could be because we're vegetarian. Might be a great place for omnivores. My husband thought the pancake was good but I'm not sure what level of pancake connoisseur he is. Benedict, chilaquiles, grilled cheese, French toast were good but nothing exceptional. I'd come back if others would want to go but it wouldn't be a place I'd crave and ask to come back to. The side potatoes as well as the side hash browns both have onions in it fyi if you don't eat onions. They won't seat you until your whole party is present. I appreciate their flexibility with substitutions, however. They don't say," I'm going to charge you $2 for avocado even though you're not getting meat." They also charge you less if you get chilaquiles without meat. You have to appreciate that because many restaurants charge you full price regardless if you omit the protein of the dish. So thank you .

Early Bird was amazing! Such a quaint and welcoming place. Staff were great, friendly and welcoming. We tried the Bacon and eggs with skillet potatoes and sourdough toast. Everything was cooked to my liking . The potatoes were crispy yet soft, flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The toast was made with artisan bread, served with fresh raspberry jam. Delicious!! The chilaquiles had a kick but not spicy with creama, avocado, steak and eggs. Such a good dish! Everything was so fresh! We will definitely be returning soon! Highly recommend giving them a try if you have not already.

I'm visiting southern Cali again! I'm always excited to try new places, this breakfast spot was close to the Airbnb that we were staying at. We drove by and I decided to stop by and look at the menu. Everything sounded really good, we came the next morning for breakfast. Everything we ordered was really good. The only thing is, it's super confusing on how people get seated. We were waiting to be seated and the wait staff all pass by and didn't acknowledge us. People came from behind us and just sat down. Finally we flagged someone down to help us get seated. It's not a huge dinning area but plenty of smaller tables. There's only a couple of big tables, which appears to be 8 is the max. Overall the food was good and the service was decent, I will definitely come back when I'm in the area.

Stopped by here on a Wednesday morning and again, it did not disappoint. The waffle is perfectly crispy and the cream on top is so light and fluffy. The eggs were perfectly cooked and had the most perfect texture. The steak was seasoned well and tender. The chilaquiles were a bit too soggy for me but the sauce had good flavor. The service here is always really good, everyone is so attentive.

Ask the Community - Early Bird

    Do you guys take reservations?

Sorry we dont but you can always use Yelp to add your name to the waitlist and then that way you can wait at home until your table is almost next. If you add your name on yelp, you’ll be able to see at all times how many parties are ahead of you

Is there bottomless Mimosa's? If so, how much and what days/hours?

I didn't see that on the menu, but they do have a mimosa flight of 3 different flavors.

    Can you make a reservation?

No, but you can join the waitlist on Yelp.

Is there a kids menu that I could order from?

Is there outdoor seating still available?

yes, but some of the tables are under the sun without any shade

The address doesn't seem to be right? It's taking me to the hospital!

It's on the corner of BASTANCHURY & BREA BLVD In the stater bros parking lot next to the beagle shop

Do they deliver? I see delivery is listed as an option on yelps more info section but can't find a way to order?

Yes on their website but the last 6 times I've gone here, they say their online ordering system isn't working (even though it will let you place an order). So I would advise against it and call to place an order instead.

Is it only outdoor seating as of today?

    indoor also

Why would nobody be answering the phone when it's already your business hours? I called 10x from 7:33 thru 7:48, and it just goes to vm!

Probably because they are busy serving customers that are already there... and they don't have a secretary or receptionist.... ??

    Is outdoor seating still available?

    Yes, outdoor only.

Do you have a unit number?

Not sure what you mean by Unit? as in address?

Are they open? I see reviews from a few weeks ago but when I call in for order pick up no one ever answers the phone? I've tried checking elsewhere to see if there is any information about their operating hours due to COVID-19.

Yes we are 7:30-2pm and Saturday and Sunday until 2:30pm. We are open for “to-go” orders only and we are also partnered with UberEats as well. Sorry for the late reply.

    Are there non-dairy options?

Yes. As far as almond milk and soy milk. I want to say I remember there being food options but I didn't specifically order any food with that option we just asked for the butter on the side.

Are they accepting reservations for Mother's Day?

    No, they closed their waitlist

How early does this location start serving alcohol (mimosas)?

    When they open.

Do they have an option for bottomless mimosas on Sundays?

No we don’t, but we have a mimosa flight that comes w 3 different flavored mimosas!

Do they have gluten free toast?

We don't but we have a gluten free pancake 😉

Do they take reservations on the weekends?

I have never tried, but on the weekends I will put my name on a waitlist through yelp it is so helpful! It tells you how many people are in front of you and if you live close you can check in from home and get there and be seated very quickly

Do they have gluten free options if so what?

They do you have to ask your server

Are they open on Monday Sep 5 (Labor Day)?

Sept 3 2018? If so, yes. Till 2pm

Ambience on the inside as well as the outside are both pretty great. The drinks are also dead on, they have a wide range of craft beer as well as a full bar. The service is great. The only thing I could think of the lands in the constructive arena is their live music. Sometimes they have open mic nights, other times they have a hired band or musician. The music is way, wayyy too loud. I don't mind live music, but it can't be so loud that you are unable to enjoy the company. Patrons should be able to talk to the person or the people next to them without being drowned out by the music. I recently came with friends for drinks and we were having a great time for the first 10 minutes we were there, but when the music started, we couldn't hear each other talk at all. So we just sat there quietly, drowned out to mediocre music. We all had another drink and then left. Might be a better idea to have the music loud enough to be slightly above background noise, but low enough where you can reasonably talk and listen to those around. For example, the cottage cut (seven ounces) costs $39 instead of $59 on Wednesdays. Despite the pricy menu items, the food quality, service, and ambience make for an excellent opportunity to celebrate a special occasion. Firstly, we ordered the seaside sampler for four as an appetizer. This included Chesapeake Bay-style crab cakes, chilled Mexican prawns, and ahi sashimi. I enjoyed the ahi sashimi the most as the large and fresh slices had a nice sear with a savory seasoning on the edges. The crab cakes tasted great and filling with a dill horseradish aioli as the menu listed. While I didn't try the prawns, my mom enjoyed those the most as they had a slightly sweet flavor. I did enjoy the cocktail sauce. Secondly, I ordered the cottage cut, which included seven ounces of roasted prime rib, creamed corn au gratin, creamed spinach, and a Yorkshire popover. The cut tasted lovely at medium rare as it had a soft texture and good balance of meat and fat. I appreciated that my mom got an especially thick cut of prime rib. Seven ounces feels just right for me given that the entree includes other sides. The creamed corn au gratin tasted a little sweet without an overwhelming flavor. I liked how the creamed spinach had a similar taste. A Yorkshire popover has an airy texture with a buttery and eggy taste. Au jus and horseradish butter elevated the prime rib. Thirdly, we had an English trifle for dessert. The menu says that the trifle consists of cake layers soaked with rum and brandy, including English custard, strawberries, Chantilly cream, and caramelized sliced almonds. It had a uniquely sweet flavor due to the soaking, and the almonds provided some crunch. I found the dessert tasty. I found the staff polite, friendly, and professional. Our server disclosed the discounts on their prime rib cuts and listed their prices. She also mentioned other featured entrees in detail. The staff also consistently refilled my water glass. We also had the opportunity to ask another staff member for olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette for our baked bread. He came back and made a little small talk, fondly reminiscing how his former restaurant would serve the same sauces with their bread. My mom also got a birthday card with a printed message and signatures from the staff. The restaurant provided a simply elegant ambience. While entering the indoor seating area, we passed an exhibition kitchen and table displaying various desserts. Customers generally wore semi-formal clothing, and the restaurant recommends business-casual attire. A pianist played various songs and tunes to make for a fancy yet calm atmosphere. I especially enjoyed how the pianist played "Clair de lune." It felt nice to experience a rare moment of hearing classical music played inside a restaurant. It appeared that many diners were there for a special occasion. Started off with the crab cakes which didn't have much crab...bummer. It was more like breading with a little bit of crab. It didn't taste like crab cake either. The scallops appetizer was also lacklustre as the bacon had some heavy baking soda aftertaste?!? The mushroom appetizer was different. Highlights from the meal included the dry aged prime ribeye which had a fantastic char, fantastic marbling, and cooked to a perfect medium rare! Portions were gigantic and perfect for sharing! The chilean sea bass entree was also gigantic and really nicely executed with super flakey sea bass. The bone marrow mac and cheese was very rich and came out as a gigantic portion, perfect for sharing. Our waitress throughout the evening was fantastic. Ended the meal off with the dessert sampler which was a fantastic way to try out all their desserts in a smaller portion! ~$110/head after tax and gratuity with plenty of leftovers!

Lobster Bisque. Silky & rich, with tender lobster bits & crunchy croutons. The bisque was buttery with a velvety finish.

For some reason the refinery spend their 40 minutes cooking the hell out of my burger, and they could even put the tooth pick in the middle of my burger, like is it that hard to stab my burger in the middle. I honestly don't know how The Refinery inside the Hilton in Brea manages to stay open. This was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. First off, the place looks nice when you walk in, but that's where the positives end. The service was painfully slow -- not the "busy restaurant" kind of slow, but the "did anyone remember we're here?" kind. We waited forever just to get water, and it somehow took even longer for the food. Then the food actually showed up... and wow. Bland, overpriced, and somehow still cold. It tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp since last week. For a restaurant attached to a Hilton, I expected at least basic quality, but this felt like cafeteria food with steakhouse prices. To make things worse, the staff acted like helping customers was a huge inconvenience. No check-ins, no refills, no effort. Just vibes of "please eat and leave." Between the slow service, disappointing food, and ridiculous prices, this place feels like a tourist trap hiding in a hotel lobby. Save your money and eat literally anywhere else in Brea. Even a gas station snack run would be a better experience.
