I visited this place because they were open when I was ready to eat and what a great experience it was. There is chicken deco everywhere. This is in line with the name early bird. Otherwise it is pretty up to date, new tables, recovered booths etc. Due to covid they are operating at 50% capacity. Every other table is closed. Staff is wearing masks and attentive to sanitation. I was sitting in a 4 top table alone, a family came in and tried to squeeze in a 2 top. I offered to switch tables with them and when the server saw it she was there to sanitize both tables even though we had only been at each table a few minutes. My food came very quickly. I ordered my eggs over medium, many cooks have a hard time doing this. They either leave the yolks runny or cook them all the way through. These were perfect. The sausage patties were very tasty and the bacon is thick cut which I prefer. Just a note. The hours have been adjusted temporarily so they do not open until 7am. Ok, folks, it just does not get any better than this. This place is a gold mine and deservedly so because they work their tails off and the serve good food, great coffee and orange juice (freshly-squeezed). You may need to wait ten (10) minutes on a busy weekend morning, but it's worth it. Their skillet breakfast dishes (amongst my favorites) are awesome, and their omelets are superb. A variety of pancakes, French toast, oatmeal, cold cereal, eggs, etc. A list of specials is always available to keep things new! Service is outstanding and the coffee (and any other drink you order [exception is the orange juice]) is plentiful and made immediately available by the attentive wait staff. Table turnover time (for cleaning) is swift and there is always service at the counter. Prices are more than reasonable. Check this place out, you will not be disappointed. read more

I've been coming here three years and it always satisfies what I'm craving; fast friendly service with well executed short-order breakfast. I recommend the Travelers Special. Pick your poison on meat. I'm a links guy but at the Early Bird I always get patties because of how meaty and flavorful they are. There's like five or six kinds of creamer flavors, if you only have a few ask for a reload; SweetCream and Irish Cream are my go to's. Trendy brunch has become absurd in the last 3+ years. Not trying to white night Early Bird and diners like it, but when I see reviews comparing a diner like this to some Royal Oak or Ferndale mecca I get bewildered. Apparently good diner food at an awesome price is some un-inspired crime. I was not aware this place held it self out as a Fly Trap, Toast, Cafe Muse, etc.. I come pre 9:30 and rarely wait, but yes it gets busy especially on the weekend. 15-20 min is not a long wait. I wait 1-1.5 hrs for breakfast in Ferndale often for those 'amazing' brunches. Being busy is good for business and speaks to the establishment. It's also one of two places (3rd shall not be mentioned) like it serving the Downtown Northville and surrounding areas. There is ample free street parking as well as many lots within 2 minute walk. Downtown Northville if nothing else has an absurd abundance of parking. I've probably been to every shop and restaurant by now and visined at all hours of all days and have never had a parking issue. read more

This place is always PACKED! So naturally I wanted to see what the big deal is, and I wish I hadn't. It was super cute inside, great decor lots of chicken everywhere. Super friendly servers. Nice ambience. The food was just bad. Super bland, no flavor. Absolutely nothing special about it. In an earlier incarnation, this was the Dandy Gander. Much spruced up, and with delicious, new menu offerings, The Early Bird is much more deserving of your patronage than the Dandy Gander was. Stopped in this morning for the $4.95 Super Special. 2 eggs any style, a meat choice, potatoes and toast or muffin. Coffee was $2 with refills. My order took a really long time to prepare. So the waitress gave me an orange juice gratis. The sunny side eggs were undercooked and runny, and the potatoes were undercooked as well. My experience was not consistent with the other good YELP reviews I had read. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 was that the waitress tried to make amends with a free OJ. read more

My sister took me here for a quick Saturday sisters brunch date and it was delish! It was very busy so we sat at the line of stools they had to avoid a wait. I had the Greek omelette + Swiss and my sister had the Country omelette and we both added cinnamon toast for the side. The omelettes were so incredibly tasty! What isn't there nice to say about Early Bird?! It's a small diner with a very cozy atmosphere. From happy waitresses/waiters and their quick service, the food is great portioned and very tasteful. Everything about this restaurant is just wonderful. The food no matter what you order it is always out and ready extremely fast, even if the place is a little busier than normal. Nothing seems to slow these cooks down. The orange juice is fresh squeezed, about the best and only way it should be. Normally I'm not one to order scrambled eggs while out, but here is one of the very few spots I will get my eggs scrambled. The coffee is hot, and yeah it's not the best coffee around, but you're in a diner what more could you expect. The sausage links are thicker than other places and the 'large pancakes' are definitely large! First I have heard great things about this place but when i went here it was quite the opposite. Me and my boyfriend came in 30 minutes before they closed but we intended on staying for a quick bite. Get our food and get out. Right when we walked in our waitress rolled her eyes at us and proceeded to talk about us to the other waitresses. I am a waitress at Ihop and NEVER would i talk about my tables. Once we got our food my french toast was cold and I told our waitress and she got upset and said I will take it off but then she went to her coworkers and told them "now she's complaining about her food being cold" come on. a different girl came and took my french toast and brought it back and touched it and said "it's still warm" and starting smirking. first it wasn't even warm it was cold. This sure is a popular place! There was a very disorganized line (well, more of a crowd) of people waiting to be seated, and no real organization to it. Granted, it's seat yourself, but there wasn't much indication from the staff about which tables were available. And the line to pay (The cash register is behind the counter, where the servers are getting the food. It seemed an odd place to put that) made it even more confusing to know how the seating worked. However, they did clean tables off quickly and my wait was only about 10 minutes. I ordered a Greek scramble. It came with toast or biscuit and potatoes. I was going to get a biscuit (my usual first love), but I saw that they had the good Jewish rye bread that I love, so I got that instead and was not disappointed. It came with a little container of grape jelly. I prefer the restaurants that have the jelly caddy on the table so you can choose the jelly you want. The eggs had bits of feta and tomato in them and were fine.The potatoes were kind of anemic, though, and rather undercooked for my taste. This is obviously a neighborhood place where people know each other. A server asked someone to step inside to keep the air conditioning from going outside, and then she said to me, "I can talk like that to him; he's my neighbor." There was also a group of people who seemed to have come from a run of some sort, and they also seemed to know the staff. It isn't a bad place, but it isn't outstanding, either. This was my second time trying out a brunch location in Northville. The first one, I was really disappointed with my experience however, after coming to Early Bird, I was so excited. The moment you step into the restaurant, you are hit with a cute diner filled with smiles. I love how it's "seat yourself" so you can choose any seat you want. You can either isolate yourself or dine near people. The servers are fast and quick. They're very attentive as well. My boyfriend and I ordered the Meat Lover and Country Skillet, respectively. Although, I said no onions, there were some, but since it was cooked, it was fine. It's super cute since it's served on a skillet. My eggs were cooked over easy and I loved it. However, my only disappointment was that the toasts were a little too burnt on some of the pieces. The jelly only masked the taste of the burnt bread. The portions were large enough that it will give you food coma after the omelette and at a relatively affordable price. There's a lot to love about the Early Bird. The menu is strictly breakfast and lunch, and there are a ton of options. The omelets are the thickness of a blintz/crepe, which is one of my favorite styles. I'd recommend the Greek omelet, which is filled with feta, spinach, and onions. The hash browns are some of the best I've had around these parts - thick chunks of potato, not too greasy. The omelets come with a biscuit (get one!) or toast. Pro tip - try the rice pudding for dessert. Service was very prompt, though I didn't quite enjoy seeing some of the staff wearing earphones while working. Seriously what is that? But otherwise no complaints. Prices are great. You seat yourself. There's ample parking in the lot out back. I plan on returning. read more
