The team behind this place (Scott Drewno and Danny Lee, also of Anju and ChiKo) knows what they're doing, and it shows. The sourcing is thoughtful, the execution is consistent, and the menu has enough going on to warrant repeat visits without feeling like it's trying too hard. The parking is very challenging here, just like all DC Parking. We were early enough (9:15p) to find a spot out front. This is because the parking starts to be enforced at 10p-5a. The clubs get very busy at 10p, and Ruben's has a DJ so it's a dancing spot and bar too. We picked our food up and took it back to our place. It was not as good as previous visits. The Carne Asada Steak was not as flavorful as before and it contained very fatty pieces of the meat. The food was decent this visit, but did not have that normal "pop" of flavor that we are used to here. The staff is always very customer service oriented and they have our food ready whenever we order it for pickup. This visit was 2 stars customer service and 1 star food taste and quality. It's a model ahead of its time but one that makes it easy to order your food (though I can see the drawbacks like having to order once you get to the building since there are unique QR codes that prevent you from ordering food when you're not there. I honestly would give the food closer to 4 stars, but my partner had such positive experiences at this place that I am giving it 5 stars.

Many online reviews say this location is expensive in particular, and indeed it was. With the happy hour pricing (yes, HAPPY HOUR), I paid over $31 for three al pastor tacos and Margherita after tax and tip. However, the worst offense is how long we had to wait for food. The line to order was pretty long (~10 minutes), but I waited 30 minutes for my food and my friend waited close to 55. There was only one employee cooking/making the food and two others assembling food and making drinks. All three were clearly doing their best, to be clear, but the wait was too long. HH TACO AL PASTOR - 5 + normally, this is $6 per taco The tortillas were dry and stale, which is better than greasy and soggy, I guess. The al pastor was quite flavorful and well-seasoned. Overall, pretty disappointing since the tortilla is half of the taco. HH MARGHERITA - 10 This was literally an 8 oz. clear plastic cup with 90% ice and 10% liquid. I cannot believe this was $10 and "happy hour" pricing. It was incredibly strong, so if you're looking to get the buzz quick, this is your drink because it was not tasty whatsoever. The Shroom Adobada taco was super flavorful! It was my favorite of the three. Definitely one of the best mushrooms tacos I've have in DC. The chorizo taco was also pretty good and had just enough spice to it. The tinga taco was good, but probably my least favorite out of the three. I think it was a bit on higher price side for lunch, but I'll definitely be returning to check out happy hour.
