Walking distance from Union Station. I ate breakfast here because of the reviews and it did not disappoint. A good selection of options. I chose the breakfast burrito with ham and potatoes and it was delicious. Made before my very eyes... Not a lot of seating so I bet it's busy at lunchtime. Interior is clean and new, and you see everything behind the counter as they work - it's clean and everything looks fresh. I'm still exploring the area around work and am always delighted in finding different places to eat. With Corner Bakery in limbo with it being 'temporarily closed' for months now, I almost lost hope that I would find variation for lunch anymore. We all know the draining experience it can be to visit Union Station as well. It's always fun visiting this place due to the fact that you might run into a newscast out front from one of the many news channels located within the building. But once you get past any newscast outside you are finally able to enter and take a look over the menu. If you do not know what you want, stand to the side and allow other customers to come in and order. I have been here a few times since my initial check in and have had the opportunity to try a few things. Overall, the quality of the food is fresh and it is tasty. I seem to stick to the items that are "California." I have had the California Wrap and I have had the California bowl. The wrap is fresh and packed full of toppings. Ample enough to be a lunch and portable enough to eat on your way back to your workplace. The bowl, you'll need a bit of time to sit down and devour this. Rice is the base and all the toppings are placed on top. Fresh avocado kind of pulls it all together. This place is capable of catering, but it appears that you will need to call well in advance to set up your catering needs. Due to their hours they would need to set it up with staffing an what not. As for the location, going back to that, a lot of the pictures appear to be of the old location. With it being in the Hall of States it is a much brighter atmosphere. White making it feel crisp and indoor/outdoor seating available. The sides are decent. I have gotten one of their cookies (amazing). And for $10.99 (tax included) I had the pleasure of trying the Southwestern Chicken Salad (added diced tomatoes) with bbq ranch dressing and the Caesar Salad with chicken (added diced tomatoes). Both were filling, hearty, fresh, and I like that they grill the chicken on demand! The staff are quick, attentive, efficient, and you will be in and out even during the lunch rush. They didnt have rolls but I had the option of three different types of supermarket sliced bread or english muffin, toasted plain. You get one egg portion wise (they say eggS, but its pre- scrambled), and a standard pork patty. Salt pepper ketchup is self serve and they dont provide bags. Rent must be damn high at this location, but nonetheless I expected more. read more

Franklin Grille does not impress...at first. It's in the bottom corner of a sterile downtown DC office building built decades ago. The interior is no frills in the same way a Russian gulag would be. They have random food items thrown throughout the right side of the cafe...or are we calling it a grill? Then you order the food and you're pleasantly surprised. Their breakfast sandwiches (order the ham, cheese, and egg sandwich on an English muffin) are tasty and made fresh daily. They brew coffee and it's decent coffee too! My chocolate chop muffin was fresh and tasty too! All of that was well under $10. They have a space where you can sit down and enjoy your breakfast people watching downtown DC. read more

You'd probably never notice this place unless you work or have business in the area or someone mentioned it to you. I've worked in the area for over 21 years. This establishment is tucked in a corner at the corner of North Capitol and E st.'s, NW. While it's located on street level it's actually under a building with it's own entrance. Over the years, there have been other owners. The current staff are quite personable. They are friendly, patient and careful in preparing your food. The location is large enough for dining in and there is plenty of room for customers to wait without being on top of each other, although I've never experienced a long wait. I usually call my order in and they have it ready when I arrive. I've noticed that the counters, floors, tables and location in general is always clean or being cleaned. On to the food. I have only tried breakfast at this point but I've heard amazing things about the salads and they look fabulous. My favorite breakfast item is the breakfast burrito. It is so fresh, delicious and filling. You can add your choice of cheese and protein should you desire. I desire BACON! The total cost for that with tax was $6.59! I have also had the pancake platter. It comes with home fries, toast and your choice of meat. I choose BACON! I also got a chocolate chunk cookie. I warmed it up and it was heavenly. If you find yourself in the area, and it's walking distance from Union Station and the main Post Office on North Capitol St., stop by for breakfast or lunch and tell them the lady with the quarters sent you. During the lunch hour rush I can say that I received fast service but that's about it. If you don't work in the area, you'll probably never see let only go to this spot. You'll hit the food trucks on the next block or other restaurants with brighter signs. You'll walk right by it. Go right in. Get the southwestern salad with shrimp. I promise you it will be delicious and it's only $11. I used to work in the building and miss it terribly. Although don't expect extraordinary service. Most people who eat here work in the building and already know what they want. You might get a funny look when you ask a question or get in the wrong line because it's a little cramped in there. They were doused in margarine, which they call "butter". In short, I paid $4.99 ($5.49 w/ tax) for only half a pancake. Inedible. You can't beat this place, for a fresh homemade style sandwich. All the greens were fresh. They didn't skimp on any ingredients. They do go a little overboard on the mayo. They have a pretty wide selection. They have sandwiches, salads and an entire grill area in where they make burgers, breakfast items and etc. The service isn't the greatest though. They don't really go out of their way to interact with the customers or even slip a smile in. Pretty standard pricing for a deli in DC. I'd say the sandwiches are pretty worth it. Most recent grilled cheese: generous piles of ham and turkey stuffed into the sandwich for the reasonable price of $6.29, which is comparable and even cheaper than some of the nearby places. And it was quite delicious and filling. The line always moves fast and the servers are very friendly. I have never actually sat and eaten at the restaurant, and rarely do I see anyone else doing so. This is the place you go to pick something up and bring back to your office. Recommended if you want a break from the plain-old, boring cold sandwich or salad for lunch. read more

My favorite meal would have to be the "hearty fare" which consists of your choice of meat (turkey/pork bacon or sausage), eggs, home fries (delicious!), and two pieces of toast ($3.75). They also serve HUGE pancakes which are pretty tasty. They have plenty of room inside if you wanted to dine in but I usually take my meal back to the office. Lunch at Franklins is pretty good as well. If you have been to Lawsons its pretty much the same menu. My favorite lunch item would have to be the chicken bacon pita. Talking about tasty!
