Had a great time poking around here. We originally were exposed to the Aberdeen WA location and enjoyed it so much we sought out this Tacoma location while in the area for a sporting event. Hubs is a big hands-on salvage and antique hound; I'm basically along for the ride but have come around to noticing the value in a sea of things. We even brought our 21yo son with us and he seemed impressed with the inventory (stayed off his phone at least). Our best finds have been light fixtures so far. The range of items is impressive. There is an expansive outdoor area at this location and we spent a fair amount of time looking at interior doors. Will return! read more

My husband and I are big fans of salvage stores. We have been to the Earthwise location in Sodo many times -- sometime just to browse, sometimes because we are looking for a particular item. In either case, we have always enjoyed wandering around there and have frequently left with some small (or large) trinket. So, when life brought us down to Tacoma one recent day, we decided to check out Earthwise's recently-opened second location there. It is smaller than the Seattle store, but still full of lots interesting "stuff" -- doors, windows, appliances, toilet seats (in just about every pastel you can imagine), phones, cabinet hardware, lighting fixtures, etc. Oh, and a giant stuffed lion. (I'm not sure if he is for sale or is just there to keep an eye on things.) The store is adjacent to Hillsdale Lumber and Sawmill, and, as such, has a huge stock of lumber and the ability to cut it to size. My husband was impressed with both the selection and the prices. We only saw one person working at the store today, but she was very friendly and helpful. She greeted us and and other customers, chatting us up a bit so she'd know why we were there and doing all she could to make sure each person found what they were seeking -- or just enjoyed just looking around. Now that we know exactly where to find the Tacoma store -- and have seen the cool things that are to be had there -- I see many return trips in our future. read more

Very cool architectural salvage/re-purposing mecca. Lots of cool older architectural accents can be found here like the huge Queen Anne school window arches with windows intact! The state of each item varies, and most everything is outdoors or in a barn-like environment where the elements continue to deepen the patina of the antiques you'll find. In addition to architectural treasures, you can find anything from old gym flooring to marble, sinks, toilets and some American history if you keep your eyes open! My husband found a mechanical box tucked in the corner with a $15 tag. Come to find out there's one in the Smithsonian, and it's historical value is far beyond the price we paid. this is one of my favorite places to "find" treasures- the "watch for children" sign, the sink/faucet combo, and the charcoal trim was from earthwise. the staff work hard to find cool items to repurpose. we have purchased doors, windows, sinks, and (much) more. i love digging around in their yard on a drizzly tuesday. there is an earthwise in aberdeen that's awesome, and one in seattle (fun to look but definitely more pricy than its rural siblings) . read more

5 stars for the friendly staff and the fantastic variety of items for sale there. They have all kinds of old stuff to look at, and if you're doing any restoration work on an old home and looking for vintage bits and pieces this place is worth checking out. Have to take some stars off for pricing though - it's very high considering the actual value and condition of most of their inventory. I *generally* find better prices for similar items at Second Use and the Habitat for Humanity stores nearby. read more

SO excited to start shopping here for our fixer upper home! They have absolutely everything you need for construction especially if you are planning on restoring an old home. They have clawfoot tubs, toilets, kitchen appliances, lighting fixtures, hardware, sinks, windows, doors, and much more! Not sure if they normally do, but they did not have kitchen cabinets, bedroom furniture, tables, couches Etc...more so structural stuff and appliances. We live near this business and have stopped on several occasions. We have even bought a couple things there (framed window, handles). I am aghast, however at their general pricing. Most times we leave realizing few in their right minds would pay those prices. My wife (being the creative one) decided to fashion a pantry door using weathered corrugated metal roofing. We stopped in today and looked at metal roofing and found stuff that would work and notice an 8 foot piece of bent up weathered corrugated roofing was 5 dollars a lineal foot. I looked online and found that same piece at Home Depot for 12 dollars for the 8 foot piece. It's impressive they can stay in business charging these prices. read more

We were looking for neat odds and ends to make our home unique and love to shop vintage/used/thrift to this end. Earthwise has so many unique housing and salvage goods such as old claw-foot tubs, church pews, salvaged wood, gardening stuff and planters, great lighting fixtures, vintage door knobs, and much more . There were some many things that I wanted to buy. We bought some nice looking worn wood to make a bed frame and some industrial large wheels for the footing for 30 bucks in total. I Also bought super neat book ends with little globes on them in their office show room. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful- we enjoyed chatting with her. I give it 5 stars because it has all the elements I expect in a salvage store and more- really neat stuff- and with that said, here are two small things to consider -some of the items are more pricey than I would have expected and generally i have seen less expensive salvage goods stores. However I support their effort to have a thriving business and so I'll pay it - or find stuff there that is more reasonably priced (bed frame makings I mentioned we found for 30 bucks). Second, this is not a critique, but rather a fact for most salvage stores - you usually can't go and expect to find a very specific things (except for vintage door knobs, they have hella door knobs) - it's the kind of place where items find you. I'll certainly be going back often for treasures. read more

I lived in Georgia for a couple years and I can tell you for fact EarthWise is far over priced. I was fortunate enough to bring back a trailer load of stuff in order to start my business here without paying Earth Wise prices. In fact i save more money by traveling back to Georgia, or any where else east of Seattle or Tacoma in order to keep my business profitable and bring the same savings to my customers. Small, overpriced. All of their lumber is left uncovered for the weather and elements to warp. My husband and I were looking for small pieces like fixtures faucets, door knobs. Everything was overpriced and needed lots of love. I love finding hidden treasures and spending time to make them functional, but not if its priced like its new! It's worth the drive to Portland, to go to The ReBuilding Center for all your salvage needs! Although it's still fun to walk around and check out what they've got! read more

Poor customer service from a younger lady with a septum piercing at the front desk. I was there to pickup furniture for someone else giving all the information I had and in return received a defensive response that wasn't customer oriented at all. It's important for a positive mental attitude being the face of a business and this person clearly could care less. Then there's the pricing, way overpriced. You're better off just taking the time to fish craigslist for much better deals and not to mention the self reward from the hunt! Shop elsewhere! read more

You can even bring in old home salvage items lights, handles, doors, windows, and other just call to see if they'll take what you have and they will give you store credit. There's not a lot of salvage yards in Tacoma, so it's nice to have this one to go to! read more

Fun, fun place. Even better to have this resource locally (Tacoma). Sometimes we go there just to shop for ideas. Other times we have a specific project in mind. Most recently we've found materials to make all of the workbenches in my studio space--old 4x4 posts, fir 2x4's with beautiful gray patina, slabs of a glue-lam beam for the top surface--you just can't find that kind of character in a big box store. Along the way we scored an industrial baking pan (think half-dozen metal loaf pans soldered together in a metal frame), which is pretty grungy in it's current state but ought to be great for holding shop supplies once it's sandblasted. Yes, it can be cold and wet to go there in the wintertime. Some (not all) materials are outdoors year-round; it's unfortunate that they don't have more covered space. Some stuff can be used directly; other stuff benefits from being re-imagined before use. But this is a salvage yard. That's part of the package. I love this place! There are so many unique items to look at. Any DIY project you find on Pinterest, they have the supplies for. Went in for hinges, latches and handles to build two Dutch doors (using instead of baby gates for our stairs) and got heavy duty ones for less than 20 dollars. Definitely a cool place to check out on a weekend, and you can't beat their prices. read more
