When you have imagination and see things through a creative lens, then this place is an adventure and an endless supply of opportunity. So many ways to reuse and recycle.

My husband and I are big fans of salvage stores. We have been to the Earthwise location in Sodo many times -- sometime just to browse, sometimes because we are looking for a particular item. In either case, we have always enjoyed wandering around there and have frequently left with some small (or large) trinket. So, when life brought us down to Tacoma one recent day, we decided to check out Earthwise's recently-opened second location there. It is smaller than the Seattle store, but still full of lots interesting "stuff" -- doors, windows, appliances, toilet seats (in just about every pastel you can imagine), phones, cabinet hardware, lighting fixtures, etc. Oh, and a giant stuffed lion. (I'm not sure if he is for sale or is just there to keep an eye on things.) The store is adjacent to Hillsdale Lumber and Sawmill, and, as such, has a huge stock of lumber and the ability to cut it to size. My husband was impressed with both the selection and the prices. We only saw one person working at the store today, but she was very friendly and helpful. She greeted us and and other customers, chatting us up a bit so she'd know why we were there and doing all she could to make sure each person found what they were seeking -- or just enjoyed just looking around. Now that we know exactly where to find the Tacoma store -- and have seen the cool things that are to be had there -- I see many return trips in our future.

Great salvage shop. We went for antique door parts and they have everything we needed and a fantastic price too. There is tons of stuff and super helpful staff. We will definitely be going back soon and often. It is seriously a treasure trove!

Look what I made with my find there!

Only been here once. .. I'm new to this kinda place, but I loved it! I'd go back when I'm looking for more cool stuff. I bought this window for $50. Seemed a tad pricey maybe since it's a salvage yard. .But like I said, I'm new to this kinda shopping. Guy was super friendly. Showed us where more stuff was and helped me out with my find. Was heavy.

"watch for children" sign, koehler sink/faucet, and trim were all repurposed/up cycled from earthwise tacoma

this is one of my favorite places to "find" treasures- the "watch for children" sign, the sink/faucet combo, and the charcoal trim was from earthwise. the staff work hard to find cool items to repurpose. we have purchased doors, windows, sinks, and (much) more. i love digging around in their yard on a drizzly tuesday. there is an earthwise in aberdeen that's awesome, and one in seattle (fun to look but definitely more pricy than its rural siblings) .

Great place if you want to spend $200 on a rusty saw blade to hang in your loft apartment.

Went in for hinges, latches and handles to build two Dutch doors (using instead of baby gates for our stairs) and got heavy duty ones for less than 20 dollars.

I have always liked going in hardware stores. But today my husband gave me a challenge: He was…read morecurious if he could find a new tip for his favorite walking cane. Well the people here were incredible in assisting us. There was a young lady at the register that directed us and two more people helped us locate : Yes a cane tip! I was elated! I have bought those before and it can be a pain to find the exact tip for canes. Both of us use canes now for better mobility. So we are glad we do not have to replace our favorite canes but put tips on them now. There is a section that have a variety of sizes. One store clerk pulled the tip off of my husband's cane and found the perfect fit. The package has four ! It was $5.14 ! I I bought a package of 2 tips at the nearby drugstore for for my cane. They were pricey and did not fit. And worse I lost the receipt. So I had to buy another cane. Because that tip was worn out to use anymore. So getting four tips for about $5 is a great deal. So anyone who has canes of any kind ,go to Ace Hardware to replace tips! They are helpful and go beyond to provide great customer service. And no worries, they will help you remove the old one and put new one on quickly. I truly did not expect Ace to have those kind of things but they did. I will return here and refer my friends. Oh and they also have some pretty plants here too. Next year I am definitely planting some flowers! And as you leave store, there is free hard candy to grab a few for just visiting .

The cocktails all seem to be named after nautical terms, likely a nod to their island locale. I got the Buoy, which was a tequila-based cocktail with blackberry, Campari, and rosemary. It was quite refreshing. We split the smoked salmon chips and dip, because we both love smoked salmon and Old Bay. This was tasty, but I think a cream cheese dip requires a chip that's sturdier than a potato chip. I ordered the seared ahi and my spouse ordered the burger. We both enjoyed the seared ahi, though I wish it had more of the whipped tahini and harissa. We agreed that the burger was solid, but not the best restaurant burger we've had. We finished with the key lime pie and pot de crème. Recommend both (though maybe avoid the pot de crème if you don't like coffee)!

From the moment we walked in (party of 4) on 6/14 Sunday at noon, there were one male and one female hosts.  The male host was friendly, greeted us with warm smiles. On the other hand, the blonde female host gave us dirty looks, not saying a word and acting as if she wanted us to leave.  She even turned her back on us while we were trying to ask her questions about menu.  A restaurant's hospitality starts at the front door, and unfortunately this experience left a very negative impression before we were even seated. At that, the experience there was ruined from the moment we came in because of this one female host and the whole experience was a total disaster. The fact she was an employee there says a lot of this restaurant. DO BETTER, THAT HOST AND THE RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT. TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES AND HIRE THE RIGHT PEOPLE!
