It had 2 layers. They told me it would take 3 weeks. This brought me up until the day before the wedding. I started to get nervous and called to check in on my dress. (In their defense I shouldn't have waited so long) They told me to come in and it would be done. It was not finished when I got there. I went the next day and my mistake-I forgot to bring my shoes so I tried it on at home. They had only shortened 1 layer! I had to bring it in and have it remeasured and shortened. I was getting nervous as the wedding was approaching but they got it done. They did good work the second time, but I won't go back. I think they take on too much and it impedes their work and the organization of their place.

The entire experience was like a well-oiled machine…read more I called to see about booking an appointment and they gave me all the info I needed in one sentence-- that it was drop in, they'd complete the visit in 30 mins, make the alterations in one week, just bring the dress and the shoes. I was seen immediately when I walked in despite it being mid-day on a Saturday. The tailor clearly knew what he was doing and was able to suggest solutions to help fix all of the issues I was worried about. I was very impressed by how quickly and expertly he made the necessary pins, marks, and suggestions. When I picked up the dress they had me try it to see whether more modifications were needed. It looked great, however a few dark marks had appeared on the dress since I dropped it off. To fix this, they got it dry cleaned within a few days. Overall it was a great experience!

Second time I wore them I knew I had to have the waist taken in - no belt can unnoticeably cinch in or oversized shirt hide a gap that big. I didn't have any previous experience with Ricky's, but I'm always in this part of town and this job didn't seem too difficult, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to try them out. They interacted with me as little as possible - the vibes I got from them had an overtone of 'you're wasting my time' - and their perfunctory approach concerned me. I tried on the pants for them and indicated how much I wanted the waist taken in, but the person helping me used pins to mark a point quite a bit shy of my preference. Even after showing him again how I'd like the waist to fit, I got the feeling that I was being ignored. When I returned to pick them up, it took me a while to catch someone's attention. I wasn't offered the opportunity to try on the pants there to confirm the fit (but I didn't ask, either). Again, the main objective seemed to be to get me out of there as quickly as possible. I tried on the pants at home. As I suspected the waist is still too big, but I can at least wear them now. The workmanship looks good, but if I decide to have them altered again I'm going to look elsewhere. Good points: The turn-around was amazingly fast - I hope they don't sacrifice sleep or fingers to maintain the pace. And they charged approximately nothing for the work (around $15).
