They are one of the best Chinese food places I've ever been- easily top 5. I've traveled 40 minutes for take out, just to turn around and head back home. Everyone that's eaten there or gotten their take out has complemented the meal's taste, freshness, and quantity. East Cafe is the only Chinese take out place I've eaten in. They bring you out big plates (it seems like you get more, at least when you order the combination platters), and the food is steaming hot. The rice is perfectly cooked and the meals are delicious. Seriously, it is worth the drive. Going to East Cafe has always been a treat, so I'm not sure where the negative reviews come from. I've been visiting here for years and have never had a meal less than amazing. They have an extensive menu, so special order cooking, have a drink display at the front and I don't think I've ever had a pink lemonade that cold before in my life. It was so refreshing. The bathrooms are decent, nothing perfect, but also not bad. They are clean, stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. The girls are the register are nice too. Sometimes you can see how hectic it gets but the quality of the food never sways. They have parking for the conjoining shops off to the side, so parking is never a problem. Inside has been really busy a few times. It wasn't because of issues, there were just so many people trying to place or pick up orders. I did a review on this place 1 years ago. The food was really bad so I decided to give it an other try this past weekend. I ordered a small shrimp fried rice it was really bad no flavor, the shrimp looked like they had not been cooked. At this point they really need to find new cooks or close this place down. I have eaten here regularly since before the Pandemic. Their food is always fresh and well prepared. I especially recommend their shrimp dishes. I have seen them buying the shrimp at the Giant in their plaza. The General Tso shrimp is plump, moist and amazing. read more

I have frequent this establishment and it is a hit or miss. When it comes to ordering food that should not even take place. Either it's good or bad. After the last three visits I'm done. You pay for a service and expect good food and customer service. My food should not be dry if I ordered a saucy entree. This has happened the last few times. With the change in management they are terrible. I got the shrimp fried rice and the shrimp was raw. It was basically fried rice with small uncooked shrimp. No other ingredients in the dish. They only take cash to avoid paying taxes like many other businesses in calvert. read more

Absolutely disgusting. Ordered pad Thai and sweet and sour chicken. I should've known better with the pad Thai, no sauce on the very soft mushy noodles. Lots of extremely bland, ghostly white chicken pieces throughout. I wish that I didn't have to give any stars. The sweet and sour chicken came in the smallest portion size humanly possible and wasn't good at all. They don't actually have real fried rice, it's just yellow rice from the box. This plate of food looks great but it has no flavor besides beef. It has no seasoning what so ever. I tried this place in 2017 when i first moved here and the food was gross. I couldn't remember why so i tried it again. I got the wontons too and i assumed they were cheese but they weren't. It was seriously the worst chinese I've ever had. Eaat Cafe has been a wonderful place to eat at for the past 4yrs. I recommended my mother to them.. (she's very picky about her Chinese food lol) and she loves them! Ugh. No. We moved and none of our dishes or silverware were unpacked so we went looking for takeout and found East Cafe. It was lunch time and all we were really looking at was the menu on the wall above the counter...the lady behind the counter did not bother to tell us there was a lunch menu so we ended up paying $20 for General Tso Chicken and a large fried rice (I use the term "large" loosely). This is the most I've ever paid for 2 dishes at a Chinese place but figured if it was good then I wouldn't mind. Nope. General Tso chicken was sweet, no spice at all. Just a goopy mess. The fried rice was tinged yellow for some reason I probably don't want to know and had no flavor at all. There may not be a lot of options in Dunkirk but please don't waste your money here. This is our go to Chinese carry out especially if we have company or when I don't feel like cooking. The staff is friendly and they get your food out real quick. We always get the soups and the noodle dishes. I always make sure to call 20minutes in advance especially during Friday nights because they can get really busy. There was only one time that I had to wait more than 20 minutes for my food because it was a weekend. I have not tried eating in but they do have a few tables and chairs if you want to eat in. read more
