Just south of Prospect Park, there is lots to do and see. It has many chain stores like Target, but there's also lots of local businesses. There's restaurants serving a variety of cuisines from around the world. Go if you want to see what the real Brooklyn is like. It has less crime than it did a few years ago. Take a drive through an afternoon before it gets dark and you should be okay.

We stayed with family friends who were professors at the college. We had a blast visiting regional delicious wineries, doing tastings, and especially enjoyed a (back then) easy relatively short trip to Toronto and also to Niagara Falls! We were there about five days and had such a lovely time! Later in October 2001 right after traffic 9/11, my ex, his brother and I went to New York City because we had purchased tickets for the Rocky Horror Show at Circle in the Square for the first live production of my favorite movie featuring one of my favorite rock singers, Sebastian Bach, playing the role of Riff Raff! Wow! I was so excited about this performance! Sebastian did an incredible job and we had excellent seats! I was on the edge of the row and Sebastian actually came up the aisle and sang to me!!! For this trip, we drove from Alabama to Northern Virginia to brother-in-law's house, spent the night and Amtracked from Virginia to Grand Central Station. It was a great trip! Grand Central Station was, of course, a cool experience! Although we were only in the city maybe three nights we loved the Broadway experience!!!! We also had tickets to "Urinetown" and I gave my ticket to my brother-in-law. I was busy basking on the glow of the RHS! I really enjoyed browsing in the clothing stores and spent the majority of one day visiting my "short list" of arr galleries! Cabs were not expensive and getting a cab was a breeze. There was no Uber or ride shares in those days. I've enjoyed visiting New York State and since I haven't seen any of the numerous historic places or iconic sites there I do hope to return! Why no 5th star? My niece studied acting for years at Stella Adler School in New York City and through her I learned just how expensive the city is, especially based on our experience of being born and raised in Alabama. It's an expensive town by our standards! So much to see in the entire state! Again I hope to return!

Honestly, New York is one of my favorite places traveled and I'll definitely return as I still want to visit One World Trade Center, MoMA, Yankees Stadium, and so much more! Back in the past we were warned to stay away from 1st Ave above 86th street at night, and it was justified as at times we saw fights in bodegas, gun shots, cops chasing thugs, and more. It has developed since then to be safe community offering many terrific restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, even speakeasies and some fun nightlife options. With the Q subway line now here on 2nd Ave, the best line in the city, it offers easy access to all parts of Manhattan down to Coney Island. There is a nice mix of old and new here, along with affordable apartments if you hunt a bit. It's really more of a residential area with plenty of parents with kids, schools, dogs, and a few minutes walk to Central Park, and the East River Esplanade. Its also a great place for younger single folks to live as its very walkable too with enough bars and spots to mingle.

We are a close community of residents and businesses. Recently when Yorkville Bagel Cafe closed every business in the neighborhood was upset and talking about it. Our community of businesses survived the Second Avenue Subway Construction for years. Then we had a rough go with the COVID outbreak trying to survive by changing our behavior. Businesses spent a lot of money and followed regulations for outdoor dining. Anything to keep us safe. I'm glad I live in my Yorkville Zip Code. I'm so proud of my neighborhood I used to take visiting Yelp friends on what I called my "Yorkville Tour." I'm highly recommending this neighborhood for young and elderly alike. Morris County has 16 Boroughs located within it and you'll find none better and more interesting than the Borough of Rockaway which also just happens to be located 25 miles West of N.Y.C. The Rockaway River runs through the center of Town and has been a historical trout fishing destination for just about every angler with a rod & reel in Northern New Jersey. Department of Fish and Game regularly stock this River with trout as well as The local P.B.A. & businesses which sponsor an annual Fishing Tournament. Winners that catch large trout with removable tags on them receive cash, prizes and local notoriety. Several abandoned mines are located here from years back when iron ore was a major export and there are some folks that have gone spelunking in search of some adventurous opportunities. However, Do Not Call Me to come and retrieve you out of any of these as I've since retired from my spelunking expeditions a long time ago. As my Friend and Yelp Colleague "Jersey N" has already pointed out, the Borough is Full of Amazing local Mom and Pop businesses that help define this Town to be a quaint place that is second to none for dining, shopping, adventuring, and living in.
