The first time I went to Luigi's was over 30 years ago for a Christmas party at lunch. Since then, I've been back there at least 20 times over the years. This restaurant is still as good today as the first time I went. The service has always been first rate and the ambience is very comfortable. The menu here has all the Italian classic dishes. My favorite is the Veal Saltimbocca. The veal is sliced thin and so good! A group of us had dinner here this past week and everyone loved their meals. We split a Tartufo and cannoli for dessert to top off the meal. I'm not sure how many years Luigi's has been open, but I know at least 30. This place is a GF girl's dream, almost everything on the menu can be made GF. We got the calamari, garlic shrimp, and I ordered a shrimp with breadcrumbs pasta dish. All of the food was delicious, well cooked and flavorful. A few reasons I didn't give them 5 stars though- their bread baskets left crumbs all over the table and then the servers put my utensils right on the crumbs (not safe) plus... they can do everything GF except the bread? That's such a part of the whole experience so a huge let down there. Not as many GF desserts as I would have liked so I got an affogato (off menu) and it was delicious. Can't say the entree portions are huge but I appreciated the side of veggies and since we ordered apps we definitely did not leave hungry. read more

What a find! Been in this area so long, not sure how I missed this place. Everything from the welcome to being seated to trying the appetizers and meal were simply amazing. The environment is very welcoming and warm. To top things off, Luigi walks around and introduces himself to the customers - loved his attitude and welcoming personality. Let me start with the unfriendly servers. The servers were very unattentive, one server was on her phone the entire time we were there. We had to get their attention to order, and again for the bill. The food was horrible. I ordered Tuna, which is on the menu. I ordered medium, received it rare. Not only was it not cooked to order, but it was also grey in color. The first bite I spit out, the fish was obviously bad/expired. The staff seemed bothered that I sent it back. I wanted to leave at this point, but I was with others who also did not enjoy their meal. One of the better Italian places I've been in some time. We went for my nephew's 7th birthday, at his request. He said he could eat the chicken parm every day for the rest of his life! The staff was kind enough to split the portion of chicken parm into two dishes without adding the heavy mozzarella for the kids to eat it easier. They both asked for extra Parmesan, which the kind staff diligently doled out spoonful after spoonful. This is a white table cloth, traditional Italian place, but the feeling is relaxed and welcoming to families. The Orecchiette Barese had a heavy serving of Broccoli rabe, which lightened the dish. I had the pollo sorrentino which was juicy and had the thinnest slice of eggplant layered on top. It was served with a healthy portion of veggies and two seasoned potato wedges. The sauce is listed as a white wine sauce with a touch of marinara, but it made me think of a roasted tomato and olive oil sauce. It was so delicious. I highly recommend going. We tried Luigi's for the first time this week. We will never return to this Ecuadorian restaurant, that's right Ecuadorian not Italian!! All the servers were Spanish speaking, very little english! Everything we ordered was bad. One item worse than the other. This is a real post from a real person who dined there and stating the truth not all the phony posts about this place from people that love it. Ordered the spiedini, it was supposed to have a caper. anchovy sauce, well I got stale bread, very little cheese, no capers and no anchovies! The clams oreganata were horrible, they did not even resemble clams oreganata, 6 little clams swimming in some kind of red sauce, we only ate 3 of these clams. just terrible! We asked the server about the rack of lamb, I asked if it was domestic lamb. He said ill go check, came back and told us its Australian lamb. well he was wrong, this lamb came from Paterson, Nj. Menu said rack of lamb with vegetables and potatoes, well we got rack of lamb and potato chips! The lamb was grey in color and tough as leather, sent that right back to the kitchen this dish was inedible. I ordered the Cannelloni, what a mistake. I have never been served a cannelloni that was not in a casserole dish and oven baked. This dish was served on a cold plate, 3 rolled crepes in a pink sauce filled with something i could not identify! Just terible.My wife got sick from something she ate, probably the clams. Avoid this dump. we wasted our hard earned cash there, do not do the same. Run Forest run!! Before posting this here, I spoke to the owner of Luigi's, I explained to him what happened at his restaurant. He had no interest in talking about it or compensating us in any manor. He was extremely nasty and rude to my wife, I do not like that at all. My wife contacted our bank and the charge has been reversed. Luigi will have to deal with the bank now. The bank requested a copy of the Yelp post, I sent it to them. I tried to be a cordial as possible when I spoke to Luigi and all he had to say to me was that he has the best food in town and never gets complaints! NOT!! Had no interest in making things right. Luigi's is a stalwart Italian in East Hanover. The food and service is consistently top notch. There are plenty of apps and main courses to choose from, consisting of all of your Italian favorites. Went there yesterday with a party of 6 for my sons HS graduation dinner. Food was good...service was great as well. When the bill came...which I hardly read...a "transaction fee" of $11 was added which stood out to me as odd. The bill was close to $400 dollars. When I asked why I was charged a "transaction fee" on the way out...I was told "someone has to pay for it" by the owner I believe. All the other local Italian restaurants don't nail you for this "fee". I have no problem spending money...but this seemed bush league to me for a local restaurant. read more

My family and I have been wanting to try Luigi's for a while now. It always comes up as an option when we're looking to get dinner, but for some reason we never made it there until now. My first recommendation is to put in a reservation. The place is pretty quaint and fills up fast so make sure you're able to secure a seat. Next, know that it's not a BYO. There wasn't a wine/drink menu posted to their website, but when I called to make a reservation they informed me that they have a full bar. When it comes to food the menu is HUGE. It's really hard not to find something that everyone likes, and they always have specials. I had the lobster ravioli, which were incredible. Other standout dishes at our table were the mushroom pappardelle and the lamb chops. Everyone cleaned their plates, so there wasn't one bad meal served. I came here for a work lunch....first time here. A few of my colleagues had been here before and enjoyed the food so they came back and I tagged along. First, the service is fast...I meant very fast. The servers were very attentive and very pleasant. They quickly tended to everyone's beverage orders and presented all of the specials. I stuck with the Bolognese with pancetta and large spaghetti.....and it was a huge serving. Pricing for such an order was ok ( I guess? ). So let's start with the good. Service was excellent. I don't think I ever had the water fall below the half way point. Most places I end up looking for a waiter or waitress to get a refill. Once the bread basket was finished they automatically brought another one without asking. Dishes were cleared quickly and they wiped the table of crumbs before dessert. The food was above average. The pasta was cooked well. Many places serving Italian food often overcook pasta turning it mushy. The pasta was cooked nicely and the ingredients for the red sauce seem like they were quality and fresh with chunks of tomato. They have a wide variety of pastas and I would say they are above average in taste but not great. The sauce tastes pretty much the same across the three different pastas ordered for the table. I would have expected a little more differentiation. The one with lobster had more lobster than most places but the lobster was clearly frozen as it tasted dry and tasteless. Of course the price of a whole lobster these days runs around 40 - 50 dollars so it's to be expected. The main reason why the restaurant is getting 3 stars are the prices. The prices are minimum of $30 for pastas and go up from there. there are restaurants with better tasting pasta at the same or lower price point. Added to the prices is the credit transaction fee of a little under 4%. This amount of money for what you get in my opinion just isn't worth it. While prices are expected to be higher due to supply chain and inflation issues the percentage increase and other fees don't seem reasonable for what you get. read more

Everyone had a good meal and there were a lot of compliments. The price was very fair for the amount of food and for how good the food was. The desserts were great too! A bad experience in what had been an enjoyable restaurant. BAD service. Mushy pasta. When I complained about the mushy pasta I was told that I didn't order it al dente!!! Somehow it was my fault the chef over cooked the pasta. I requested they give me another plate of pasta that was cooked right. By the time that was delivered my table mate had finished her meal!!! Meeting clients who live close to the restaurant - a haul for me. Came here after seeing big food scores (24) on a restaurant only rating site. That same site gave a poor ambience rating (18), perhaps due to the location in a strip mall. Our group's experience was more of the reverse. Ambience was comfy and the decor was a tradional old world italian style. Food was OK, but at least abundant. Service was good. One of our group ordered well off the menu, and they were pleasantly able to accomodate. Started with a traditional mozzerella and tomato appetizer, and then one of the pastas from the special list. The service was fast and efficient to get everyone's order and have all the food come out at the same time. For appetizers we ordered the rock shrimp, a fried mozzarella, and calamari. They were all delicious. For my entrée I got the scallop special. I think they were a little over done. It seemed that they cut the scallops in half and some had a thick caramelized crust from the grill which over powered the sweetness of the scallop.
