My stepson's and I took my wife out for a delicious Mother's Day dinner at Pucciarello's in East Hanover. This town is filled with so many great Italian places, I figured If it was here for 9 years, it must be good. It didn't disappoint! Being a BYOB is a nice advantage. We enjoyed the Grandma's Meatballs and the Mushrooms with Polenta appetizers with a nice bottle of red. Entrees ranged from my Orecchiette to my wife's Chicken Francese, to the boys Drunken Chicken and Cavatelli & Pot Cheese. Everyone thought the food was excellent. This was our first visit. Chef Anthony was gracious enough and squeezed us in, last minute. We are a group of 4 people- 3 Italians and one Irish. We know our Italian food. I liked the most recent reviews and its proximity worked as we are coming from Randolph and Berkeley Heights. We were greeted by Gabriella, our server, she is awesome. The best personality, warm and friendly! We had great meals- Veal Parm Twists special with crumbled sausage and Ricotta was Yum! Berkshire Pork chop was perfection! On Sunday night, my partner and I had a very expensive dinner at Pucciarello's restaurant. It was our first, and likely the only time we will visit. We ordered a large salad, and mussels/clams for appetizers followed by two veal entrees. The food was 'okay'. It was delicious. Both said 'there's nothing we can do'. Now to the food, the complimentary Sicilian eggplant caponata was delicious, served with warm bread. Then came the appetizers- shrimp beeps, fried calamari, and the filet mignon meatballs. Everything was delicious! 2nd course was the chopped Italian Salad, shared by all. For dinner, I had the double cut pork chop giambotta, which was huge! Others had the MADD Spaghetti, homemade rigatoni, and the spaghetti with long hots and toasted breadcrumbs. For dessert, we had biscotti and pistachio tartufo! As a person who frequents many restaurants, I would take the 25 minute ride here anytime. My secretary - who knows good food - has been talking about Pucciarello's for years. My wife and I wanted a low key, local place to celebrate our 30th. The recommendation was excellent. We very much enjoyed our meal. I had the shrimp beeps appetizer and the veal parm entree. The shrimp was fresh. The sauce had a nice kick to it. Nice big portion. The veal was tender and filled the entire plate. Largest portion of veal I have ever had. My wife enjoyed her cavatelli with pot cheese. And a little pistachio tartufo for dessert. One thing I noticed. Most of the other tables were filled with regulars. The customers were on a first name basis with employees and enjoyed warm relationships. That says something. I can't wait to return with my parents to introduce them to my new favorite Italian restaurant. read more

Our family ( 10 adults and 7 children) came to NJ for the Polar Express train ride and we enjoyed an amazing dinner here at Pucciarello's! The staff was accommodating and very kind! Our server, Gabriella, was wonderful! Dinner was enjoyed by all! I split the linguine with clams as an appetizer and had the flounder francese which was delicious! Leave room for dessert and cappuccino too! If you are planning a trip to the polar express this season, definitely make a reservation at 4:30 for dinner. I got the homemade pappardelle. It's covered in a tomato sauce with shredded short ribs and fresh ricotta. I really liked the fresh pasta. The texture was good, softer than dry pasta but not mushy. The tomato sauce was yummy and worked well with the creamy ricotta. The short ribs were ok, flavorful but kinda tough. The waiters were friendly and the food came out quickly. So happy we finally stopped and tried Pucciarello's! Their outside dining is around the second story walkway and was very nicely laid out. It is a BYOB. The services was so friendly. Our waitress helped us pick from their jammed packed (but not overwhelming) with flavorful and homemade options. The appetizer of the Angry Clams and Mussels were amazing. I think I ate a loaf of bread just dipping the sauce. They provided bread and a lovely eggplant and tomatoes ragu spread. For entrees we had the homemade pappadelle and short ribs and country style cavatelli and broccoli rabe with crumbled sausage. The food was out of this world! We ran into this place for something different after the holidays. I was in the mood for seafood so we decided to give this place a try. Given we arrived as they were opening, we were seated immediately. Our waiter was courteous and polite as well. Everyone had a smile on their face - which is odd in most restaurants. The eggplant spread that is served with bread was absolutely yummy! However, I just wish the bread was warm. I had sautéed broccoli with linguini and white claim sauce. DELICIOUS! (They gave entirely too much sauce though, otherwise, it was great.) My wife had the chicken francese with spaghetti noodles instead of the mashed potatoes. She said it was absolutely divine. Came here for a private party and had a solid experience. Started with family style shrimp arrabbiata, fresh mozzarella and tomato, rice balls, calamari and meatballs. Everything was good, wish the rice balls had peas in them and were crispier but that's just my preference. Calamari was nicely coated- the marinara it was paired with was watery but tasty- and the shrimp had a nice slight kick to it. They offered rigatoni vodka and orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage as a first course- both were excellent. The vodka sauce was creamy and thick. The broccoli rabe wasn't bitter at all and the sauce was broth-like, perfect for sopping up with bread. The main course was just okay but I chalked it up to the "mass production" aspect of it for our large party. The decor- exposed brick on some parts of the walls; ostrich leather upholstered chairs and white table cloths. This place has an intimate yet chic vibe, I can see it being a nice place for date night or dinner with friends. Overall, I would definitely come back here for dinner. We decided to try "Pucciarello's Italian Kitchen" for the first time last Sunday. Their website (as well as Google, Yelp and Facebook) listed their Sunday hours as 4:30pm - 8:30pm, however when we arrived at ~ 5pm the place was closed, no note on the door or anything. I called their number and a man who answered the phone told me that in August they are not open on Sundays. To my suggestion to make corrections to their website the man said that "he doesn't have to do anything" and hang up. Very disappointing. He not only lost customers, but gained a bad review.
