You walk into a clean restaurant with gaudy decor yet great for this place. We were greeted and sat immediately and was asked for our drink order. We were given our drinks and bread right away. The waitress was very pleasant, friendly and quick with our order and delivered it with a smile. We had seconds which was not a problem getting a reorder. The soup was tasty and hot. Disgusting. This place is horrendous, the food is total garbage - it's a chain, so it's the equivalent of eating at a fast food chain. Everything comes from frozen; the chicken is vile and comes frozen, pre-packaged and is cut into identically sized cubes (typically of low quality chain restaurants). I honestly can't believe that people can eat this trash and claim that it is good. If you think East Side Mario's is good, then you need to give your head a shake and stop eating low quality crap, because that is what this is. Go to a real restaurant that serves real food. All of this food here is very low quality. Just more chain food crap that, for some strange reason, people seem to put up with and eat. Everything on their menu is so unhealthy, the portions are unhealthily and unnecessarily big (American gluttony style), and I literally make food 50x better than this at home by Googling a recipe. VERY VERY difficult to eat here if you have a parsley/cilantro allergy but Michelle our server worked her butt off to make sure that there was something I could actually eat. My only complaint was their total lack of ice removal on a snowy night ... I am bruised from head to toe and sporting splints on both hands over top of the stitches I had to get. We were seated at a booth from on the bar side, the servers were on top of anything we needed before we even looked for them. The food, especially for the price is mediocre at best. I used to really love the salad and bread, but this last time I found the flavors to be bland. We also ordered triple cheese & roasted garlic dip as an appetizer, we found it to be disappointing, it was runny and overly salty. Our server noticed our lack of interest and offered to take it back and change our order, because of all the other food we had ordered, we opted not to try something else. I would go again if I had a discount or was really craving pasta, however I think we will be skipping East Side Mario's, the price just isn't matching what the quality and taste should be. I hadn't been to this place in years, maybe as long as 10 or 12 years. I went there on a date with a new guy and couldn't believe how horrible it was! First of all, the restaurant was completely packed. We were seated near the front door, right by the hostess station. We had constant cold air from the door. I was bumped into by people coming and going. It was so incredibly loud in the restaurant that we couldn't even hear each other. I understand the restaurant has absolutely no control over that but the food? They sure do. I ordered a simple pepperoni pizza. How hard is it to make a pepperoni pizza? Apparently really hard! It came out on a board and it was totally misshapen. The waitress even commented on it as she put it down on the table. I figured it didn't matter as long as it tasted okay but it was honestly the worst pizza I've ever had. It was so thin that it was falling apart and it was completely soaked in grease. When you lifted a piece up off the board it dripped grease down. I had to cut it up with a knife and fork just to eat it because of how flimsy it was. I ate 2 pieces and got a takeout box for the rest. I probably should have complained but I'm not that type of person. I learned a lesson that night and won't ever be back to East Side's. We used to eat here 1-2x a month, but as food prices continue to increase and service declines, we don't bother. Their food quality and customer service isn't worth the price. My daughter and her friend went last week, and they were treated very poorly. They were not allowed to bring their salad home. They were refused additional bread, too. They both came home upset that they were treated so rudely. We are taking a break from this place. East Side Mario's... where do I start. I haven't been to this place since 2001, but frequented it from 99-01. Favorite memories include pre-drinking before heading over to Campbell Street aka Statutory Station; spending my lunch breaks from SC4 here, trying to figure out the exchange for a tip while drunk, taking a shot for the ride back over the bridge, our fave waiter Dave who reminded me of a tall oompa loompa, etc etc. The food? We hadn't been to East Side Marios for about 5 years and probably won't go again for 5 years. We ordered a medium fritta pizza to share. The waitress came back and said they didn't have any medium size dough would it be alright if they gave us two smalls. We agreed and then waited and waited. Finally the pizzas came and weren't what we ordered. They said they would redo them right away. Again we waited and waited. They finally came and they were so soggy you could hardly pick a piece up. Everything was wet. We each tried eating one piece and asked for the bill. The waitress sent the manager over who said she was sorry they weren't cooked to "our" liking. My husband asked her if that is how they cook them? She said no so it obviously wasn't to East Sides liking also. She said she would take them off our bill. It turns out even though they didn't have medium size dough they were charging us $14.99 for each pizza instead of $19.99 for one medium. Pizza also does not come with soup or salad. The only other thing we had was two cups of coffee and that was $6.10. They need to remove a couple tables to give people a little more space. Far too crowded. read more

I've been going here since it first opened, which I would guess is about 20 years ago... There was a time when I would frequent it about 4x a week... Because of the quality in food in the past few years, I've only been going a few times a year. I just had lunch here and it was basically empty. I ordered spaghetti with italian sausage... It was just about the most disgusting thing I've ever seen let alone tasted! The sauce ("Bolognese") Was BROWN... I think they boiled the whole thing with the italian sausage as it was kind of slimy and wet and not like it'd been cooked in a pan at all. The waitress never came back to ask how it was... how could she - it LOOKED and SMELLED disgusting, I'm sure she knew how it was. Always loved coming here when I was a kid since we were frequently crossing the border for hockey. I usually stuck with the pizzas and they were always incredibly fresh tasting - perhaps more than anywhere else I've ever been. Though I still love the cheese capaletti, east side has been going downhill for a long time. The prices continue to rise substantially while the portions seem to shrink at the same rate. I can't complain about the service as I have never had bad service there, my only qualm is the corporate big wigs raising pricing and costs to the consumer. The staff are great but the facilities are poor for accessibility. The doors are not automatic push button. The booths are smaller than other restaurants. This is an aging population and as you get older you put on weight. They crammed too many booths in instead of giving each one ample room so you don't sit squished up against the table. My partner and I decided to go to East Sides for lunch because we heard that they had "good" lunch deals. Well after receiving a 50 dollar bill at the end of our meal, it's easy to say they are way overpriced scam artists. The server asked us what salad we would like with our 9.99 pastas, never incinuating that it was 3.99 each additional charge. The pops were almost 3 dollars each as well. Pasta not worth that money. We will not be returning. After looking at the menu online, we would have been better off to pay the dinner price and get a free salad and drink, which would have come out way less. The server refused. We will not be going back. The food is not up to the standard that it should be for the price you end up paying. In my pasta dish of cheese capaletti, there was probably 4 and the reast sauce and cheese. Ridiculous experience. There are way better lunch options out there in Sarnia that dont want to short hand their customers. read more
