Big Fish restaurant was the best food we had on our 12 day journey. Everything was excellent and presentation was beautiful. Staff was very helpful, welcoming and positive. Atmosphere also a plus. But the biggest plus is the food. One of those meals you think about later. Will go back if we are ever in town again. read more

Housed in the former Brigantine steakhouse, this is a restaurant that's certainly more known for its steak than its fish; don't let the name fool you! It's a lounge-style bar that's just like something you'd find in a big city, and it's got the big city prices, to match. But the food is delicious, so it's worth it! Tried the Chicken Spaghettini and the Saganaki-- both were great! The Chicken Spaghettini was deliciously creamy, and I ordered it with a side Caesar salad that was just loaded with cheese. And the Saganaki-- the flaming Greek cheese-- is certainly a crowd-pleaser. read more

This place was organically sexy. The staff was well tailored and elevated each experience with a touch of customer service in class. The world famous clam chowder was everything and then some including world famous indeed. We had a phenomenal time at the big Fish in Sarnia and dined there several times during our stay. I would highly recommend the surf and turf platter, however I would steer away from the apple crisp oatmeal delight. Good wine choices and fair prices for the offered selection. We came in as a group of six, I had reserved one of the half round booth in the back of the restaurant. Unfortunately they had given it away to the wrong reservation or just misunderstood our reservation request..Disappointing but not a big deal. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She was busy and we did wait a little bit to hear the specials and get our drinks, but when she was at our table we had her undivided attention and she never once was annoyed at the slowness in ordering of one of our parties. (He's notoriously a slow ordered and likes to hmmm and haaaa while making jokes before ordered) The food was really good, they did bring me the wrong order, but quickly fix it and let me keep the mistake in the mean time. Dined here as a couple the evening of December 27. Steak was tough (both the filet mignon and the new york strip - left half on my plate), potatoes and vegetables were good but ordinary. Servers were run off their feet so couldn't be attentive. To top it off, there was urine all over the floor in the men's room. We had 2 glasses of wine and the bill with gratuity was $170. Three couples went out to the Big Fish last night and wow what a great time we had. The atmosphere was nice and all our meals were fantastic from the drinks ,appetizers to the main entree's. Our waitress (Ashley) was very attentive the whole evening. The owner was around to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We definitely will be back again sometime soon. read more

More people need to check out this great little restaurant apparently by the lack of yelp reviews. We stumbled onto this on the way through and found exceptional service and very good food. It's a really beautiful place inside as well. Even with the lack of reviews, they have no problem filling the joint as it was very busy on a weekday night. We didn't need much so just sampled the muscles and seared tuna salad. Both were excellent and highly recommended. Loved the sauce/dressing with the tuna salad. Hope to be back soon. read more

A great spot in Sarnia for dinner. I love the decor and modern look of big fish very atypical for sarnia. The food is decent and I can understand the perception people have about the big fish being overpriced - for the prices the food is not great. However, if you would like to enjoy a good dinner in a beautiful atmosphere Big Fish is one of the only nice spots to eat in Sarnia. read more

Have been here 3 times over the past 2 years or so. It seems hit or miss. Dont know if they have different chefs on at different times of the week or if its all about the interaction with staff and ambiance, but the first time we went, it was one of the best dining experiences I had in the past few years, and we raved about it, right up until the next time we went, which was our anniversary, and it was sooooo disappointing!! Nothing like our first time, and probably rated a 2/10. We finally decided (after a long break) to go back and give it another try, and again it was a really good experience, not as great as the first time, but a solid 7-8/10! The prices are in line with other finer dining in the area, and if you hit it on a good night (When the right chef or staff is on). You wont be disappointed. read more

The spinach dip is mostly cheese with tiny flecks of spinach. It's really a cheese dip. It's tasty, though. The pita chips that come with it are fried, but they taste okay too. I had the Greek salad as an entree and couldn't even eat it because it was so salty. Olives and feta cheese are already salty, you do not need to add salt to a Greek salad. I also had a bite of my boyfriend's cheesecake for dessert. I promise you that I'm not exaggerating by saying that it was the worst cheesecake I have ever tasted. It was strangely bland, and the best way I can describe it is that it tasted like play-doh. I am willing to bet that there are other items on the menu that are hits, but the things I got were not great. The service was pretty good, although the waitress didn't ask me how any of my meals were so I didn't have a chance to complain. She asked me if I wanted my uneaten salad boxed to-go and I said no, but then she sort of just left and I didn't get to say that it was because it was so salty. Restaurants should be open to feedback so they can improve. But this one doesn't seem to care what people think. :/ 2 stars because the environment is okay, service was okay, and the spinach dip tasted good. I won't be coming back, though. read more

One of the few Sarnia restaurants that gets it right. Service is clearly a priority as staff is frequently around to ensure you enjoy your experience. Portions are a little too large for lunch, accordingly the price might be a smidge high. That said, the atmosphere, service and quality of food make things right. The name will likely encourage many to believe this is a seafood restaurant which it isn't: this is probably going to be a larger issue with tourists as many locals know the owner by name. read more

I literally just ate at Big Fish and I had such a good meal there that I had to write a review. Me, my Aunt and my Grandfather had the prime rib with garlic mashed and veggies and it was honestly amazing. The prime rib was so succulent and the garlic mashed rivalled the kegs. My fiancée, and grandmother bother got the rainbow trout and they said it was "amazing" my fiancé said it had coconut on top that gave it a wonderful sweetness. My uncle, who has eaten at Big Fish more than five times, ordered the salmon. He loves salmon and he can't shy away from ordering theirs because he says it's the best. The service is great, the atmosphere is perfect for dinner or a nice lunch, and I don't see how anyone would not have a good time at Big Fish. Amazing!!! read more

This place is nicely finished inside, with a modern look. It looks and feels promising, but falls short of the upscale experience you might expect. The staff was prompt and efficient, but the food was nothing I couldn't get at a local pub, for a lot less money. I expect more creativity and quality for the price. I had the Prairie BBQ Pork, which reminded me of store bought BBQ pork on a rather normal bun. Nothing terrible, but not great, for $14. Sweet Potato fries were a $4 upgrade (!) My wife had the salmon, which was adequate, but not special, considering the $24 price tag. A minor issue was our table...the section we sat at must have had tables and chairs from 2 different suppliers...the height of the table was too low for the chairs...made you feel like you were slumping over your meal. These details keep Big Fish from living up to it's promising visage. It's close to competing with Sarnia's high end venues, but misses the mark on some key aspects. Perhaps I'll try again, but it will take some convincing. read more

We visited Big Fish to celebrate a family member's birthday on Sunday August 5. The interior was lovely as was the manner of our server. The entrées were well presented and generous. An issue arose however when the birthday guest bit into a hard bit of what appeared to be plastic in her mashed potatoes. This was brought to the server's attention and she brought the item to the kitchen for further examination - and returned with another serving of mashed potatoes. She was apologetic, but proceeded to inform our table that the item was likely a bit of potato or an onion. Neither I or any of the guests at our table have ever encountered an onion or a potato with a hard plastic texture with a bit of string attached to it. While irritated, we continued to enjoy our meal when a gentleman (apparently the owner) approached our table to inquire about our experience. We advised him of the concern and he thought perhaps a bit of saran wrap had fallen into the potatoes as they are 'covered with plastic wrap when they are prepared'. We indicated that the item was not plastic wrap, but rather a hard bit that appeared to be plastic. He said he would investigate and left our table. Our bill came and upon review noticed that even a minor gesture of removing a drink or dessert, let alone the offending entrée had not been made. We inquired and our server and she indicated she would see what she could do. The owner theJn returned to the table and was reminded of the issue and asked if any sort of discount would be granted due to the less-than-palatable addition to the meal in question. He replied that 'no there will be no deduction as it was likely a piece of potato or onion'. His manner was unapologetic and frankly arrogant. Even when visiting a fast-food chain employees are trained to address situations related to foreign objects in food. When entering the 'higher-end' spectrum of the dining world, one needs to provide impeccable guest service and accommodate errors with courtesy and humility. An establishment is only as strong as its satisfied customers. We will certainly not return to this restaurant. The experience left an unpleasant taste(and object) in our mouths and put a damper on an otherwise lovely birthday celebration. read more

We were here with 8 people. We were given a tiny table for the 8 of us. The menu was very limited for New Years, so you didn't have much to choose from. I ordered the French onion soup and it was so salty I spent most of my time drinking water. My boyfriend got the surf and turf. The steak was cooked just the way he asked it was good, the lobster tail on the other hand tasted terrible. It barely had any flavour, and we had to specifically ask for melted butter, they tried to play off oil as melted butter when it clearly was not. I'm not sure if this was just because they were so busy on New Years, but never the less it does not make up for the lack of quality in their food. You will not leave this place hungry! I had my first blue rare steak given the steak is aged and dried for flavour and tenderness and it was the best decision of the night. Phenomenal meat, it cut like slicing through butter. Great place to dine, food is of top quality and portioned right on a clean plate with a beautiful display of seasoned vegetables that all come together tastefully. Wait staff never let my glass of water go empty which is where other restaurants fail. As for the price I would say that it is priced well for an upperclass restaurant simply because of quality of food ,Excellent wait staff, menu variety is not to bulky and simple to choose from, and the importance of feeling important the minute you walk in the front door with a hello greating and a welcome to the big fish . Another great place suffering from bad location. If it were on the waterfront it would be a five. Everything was delicious on everyone's plate. Fantastic seafood, the tuna in particular was outstanding. Specialty coffees made old school beside your table with a bit of a fire show. Service and attention to detail are top notch. I have been to the Big Fish twice. Food has always been excellent. The first time I went it was not that busy. Service was not the greatest. Second time the place was packed solid however the waitress was excellent. She made sure our drinks were always topped up and checked up on us often to see if we needed anything. I recently took my girlfriend here for our second anniversary and must say I have never had a worse experience at a restaurant. Just because me and my girlfriend were not purchasing drinks and are younger is no reason for us to be so disrespected. After ordering our meals our waitress forgot to bring us our salads at all . Both of the tables beside us (no doubt spending a lot more money) received copious amounts of attention during this time, and we were all but ignored by the staff. When our meals finally arrived my girlfriend's steak was hardly cooked being a deep red all throughout. At one point a waitress asked me a question and did not even wait for me to finish my answer and walked away. The waitress did attempt to make up for the salads by bringing us one small piece of cheesecake to share, but by then my girlfriend's appetite had been ruined by the steak. Eating at this restaurant is a lot of money for people my age, and the least we should expect is to be treated fairly. I was offended and highly disappointed with this dining experience. Better service, food and portions can be had for far lower prices in the surrounding area. read more
