Her math skills have grown significantly as well. My 1st grader loves the hands on approach to science and is doing very well. They offer many opportunities for extracurricular activities and I can't express how much I love this school. I pray for more enrollment it's worth it!!!

The school's activity is so slow that they have only 1 class per grade as there are not enough students who want to study there. Sometimes the teacher misses the classes, and instead of having 6 classes in row, once students had only 3, because the teacher was absent for 3 of them and weren't warned about it. The school provides paid lunch, the quality of which is very poor, thus students have to carry the lunch with them, as they refuse to eat it. The teachers allow themselves intolerant remarks about students' religion, my child had this unpleasant occasion and nobody has had taken any action to prevent it neither to explain that it's not right nor excused themselves. My child was in middle school for 2 years, because of the selective approach and discriminative attitude to my child I decided to change this school. I expressed all my concerns in written version to the school, and as a response, the head of school found it appropriate only to mention that it was unnecessary to write it to the Embassy of France in Washington and ignored the issues about religious discrimination and on unfair approach to my child in this school.

My wife and I love this school. My oldest spends all day learning there and loves it. My child is…read morein 1st grade and there's always a weekly allotment of homework in reading, language arts, arithmetic and science. Children are educated in traditional subjects but also on how to improve their learning techniques. My child not only learns the subject matter but how to incorporate it into an applied knowledge of the world. There is also a huge sense of community involving everyone: parents, students, and faculty to become part of the Corlears community. It's impossible for us as parents to not actively engage and become part of the learning experience for our children. My youngest will be starting at Corlears next year. Many activities involve the entire school at different skill sets. Older children become mentors and the example for younger children. Children work independently in addition to learning how to function as part of a team. Teachers build report cards that transcend a letter grade. My child's final report card was 28 individualized pages of in depth information about strengths and weaknesses for all subjects. Now in the off months we work on weaknesses and improve with our goals of maximizing our child's potential for a better life.

Now that they are in a school that is strong on compassion, character and competence (the motto), they are thriving. My son used to cry or play sick to try and get out of going to his public school. The happiness that I see in him now makes my heart feel so good and brings so much relief. My daughter loves having spanish everyday and swimming lessons at the Y. Both kids have probably learned more in the first 2 months at AOSJ than they learned at the public school in one year. They are very happy with the quick pace of learning and feel that they are finally being "seen" for who they are and the talents that they possess. There is tremendous room for academic and personal growth at AOSJ. It was a gem of a find!

I also love this league so much because I get to see these cool gyms sprinkled throughout NYC that you would otherwise have no idea existed. This one is in the basement and others have been on upper floors, but some of these elementary/middle schools are BALLIN. Like DAMN, these gyms be nice af! I know what you must be wondering, but no, we didn't win. I had an open look from half court to win the game, and it just barely hit rim. It was one of those where it felt great leaving my hand too. I'd way rather it have feel terrible leaving my hand, god was just playing with me on that one smh. It's been a tough season if I can be quite frank with you, my dear reader. They are happy and they are exceeding. The teachers are all talented, inspiring and warm. They truly care about our children's education and well being. Communication with parents is excellent. There is a strong sense of community, you'll feel it as soon as you walk in. There is something very special about this School!
