I have been eating here since it was little Mandarin. Now it is very classy with linen table cloths and napkins which is a delight. It now has both Chinese and Japanese food, which are done equally well (at least to a non-Asian palette). They have a full bar and EXCELLENT food, whether it is sushi or eggplant and garlic sauce. The dishes are all exceptional and I've never eaten anything less than top notch here and frequently bring friends to eat here or pick up for take out. The people who work here are lovely and it's a pleasant dining experience. Even their hot and sour chicken is not overly greasy for fried food and the sauce has pineapple and veggies in it not just cheap overly sweet red sugar sauce. This is an excellent place to eat and have a meal with friends or family. It's also quiet enough to enjoy eating as well! There's also a room upstairs where you can have events and parties. Eastern pavilion is a very nice Chinese food sit down. We did go on Valentine's Day which I had a feeling was going to be a bad idea. I do love this place. I come here for lunch very often because their prices are really great for lunch special however I think that having one server, I think it is the owner she was very overwhelmed since every table was filled for Valentine's Day so we were there probably about two hours. She did forget a few things that we had to ask several times, including our drinks, which wasn't wonderful, but we still had a nice night we weren't in a rush to go anywhere so I will give them that since they remodeled it's really beautiful in there so we weren't really like bothered by it. We get it but on holidays I think that they should hire more help. read more

Came here for dinner with some friends. Service was okay but it seemed like everytime i was looking for a waiter there was none to be found. The food is always good. My one complaint during this meal was that i ordered a seafood with taro nest dish and it did not come with the taro nest! The waiters excuse was that they dont make it anymore. My problem with this is that we paid for a dish thats suppose to have it and if they didnt make it anymore they should have said something when we ordered. When i said something to the waiter he just blew me off. Had I known we werent going to get it i would have order a different dish! That dish was not cheap and we could have ordered a similar seafood dish for probably cheaper! read more

Let's set the dial back to 12 years ago. I'd catch the 4:49 out of Penn and my wife & kids would meet me at the Stonybrook train station. Every Friday we'd head over to Eastern Pavilion for dinner. Sometimes we'd dine in, sometimes we'd take out. We would see our neighbors at the restaurant, it was just a nice neighborhood spot. Chefs change, different owners took over and then the place slid into the trash. Read my last review, the place changed over time and the food was pretty bad that I pinkie swore off this place. I drive by the restaurant daily. I saw construction happening, praying it wouldn't change to something other than Eastern Pavilion. Sure enough, I saw the restaurant stayed Eastern Pavilion and it has reopened! I swung by for lunch today and ordered my standard: Tsingtao beer with General Taos chicken and hot&sour soup. Everything was spot on perfect. The chicken was cooked just right with not too much batter. I loved the side of edamame! The egg, it's throwing me but was still welcomed. The soup? The chef knows what I like, this too was a perfectly executed and well balanced hot & sour soup soup. I have to point out, this isn't a take out Chinese food joint. The tables are covered with crisp white tablecloths. There is a separate Sushi bar where you can sit and enjoy a tuna roll. Upstairs (I think they're still working on it) in the past we'd order a full duck dinner. Over the years we had parties upstairs, there are lots of memories at this location. Now, the kids are grown so it's just me & the Mrs. I can't wait to return and try the new sophisticated menu. Welcome back. read more

The food here is always fantastic. The portions are large and it always tastes fresh. My favorite is the tangerine beef. I've gotten this dish multiple times, it's crispy and has great flavor. I've gotten food delivered as well as sat down and it's always on point! Ambiance is lovely, very modern and clean. Service is pretty good, although our waiter kept commenting on how much meat we ordered? He bought it up about 3 separate times stating "wow that is a lot of meat." That was a little odd. Doesn't look like much when you drive past, but looks can be deceiving! You walk in and its very nicely done inside, modern layout, Christmas decorations strewn about. My friend and I were sat by a very nice waiter and he was very accommodating. Answered our questions and was willing to modify our order for the evening. We ended up settling on vegetable tempura, steamed vegetables (with some choice vegetables omitted) and the Three Delicacy delight. The tempura was nicely crisp and came with a tasty dipping sauce. My friend enjoyed her vegetables. The Three Delicacy delight came with plenty of shrimp, scallops and vegetables. Wonderfully savory and filling! Huge fan of this place! They recently did renovations for both the interior and exterior of the building. I've only been in it once or twice in the past but it looks a lot better. The food also seemed to have improved a lot and the ambiance is much nicer. I'm usually skeptical about ordering sushi at Chinese restaurants but this place did it really well! For our appetizer, Nicole and I ordered Miso Soup and Dragon roll. We then ordered a General Tso's chicken, Mau po tofu, and Chicken and Brocolli. The food tastes like a more upscaled and authentic version of Chinese food in the area. I would definitely come again and try out the different sushi options! read more

Bon and I have passed this venue numerous times but never visited. It was a slow weekend, Saturday nite, and we were hankering for something new. Having tried most of the other Chinese, Sezchuan and Thai restaurants we decided to try something new... Eastern Pavillion's menu covers all of the aforementioned ethnaticities so the choices were vast. Firstly, the place is on 25A, right off of Nicolls Rd...easy to find. Its a nice design and comfortable to dine in. We were welcomed immediately and our rezzy was honored. The servers were friendly, although harried, during our stay. The food...the most important aspect...was delightful. For appys we started with Pork Soup Dumplings..8/10.. nice flavor although not much soup. We tried the Pork Egg Roll which was 7/10...needed more pork filling although it was crisp and pleasant. Next and most impressive was the Dan Dan Noodles; situated in a hot red chili sauce with toothy noodles, this dish was satisfying and hot 9/10. Our mains were terrific! Mapo Tofu was perfect 10/10. ordered hot and mala and it was hot and numbing as requested. Lamb w/cumin 10/10 was the BEST! Tender lamb melted in your mouth and had a wonderful spicy cumin flavor. Last but not least, we went conventional chinese with General's Chicken 10/10, large juicy tender pieces of white meat chicken in a wonderful sauce! The Sezchuan dishes were excellent and brought with them the flavors and memories of our dining in Flushing. Its the real deal! Cant wait to return! read more

This place was a pleasant surprise... not much from the outside but very very nice interior.. looks like it's newly renovated.. clean and bright.. restroom is clean is well...a little pricey.. not crowded.. ample parking... they have chinese and Japanese cuisine which is great! Ordered steamed edamame although I didn't see it in the menu.. our waitress was good, followed instructions and no language barrier whatsoever... my husband ordered steamed dumpling however they topped it with chili oil so let them know ahead if u don't want any chili oil.. he also got steamed flounder.. our meals came with white rice.. Wow! Our family went after not being there for years when the food started going downhill. What a welcome surprise! The food and service were top-notch. We certainly don't have a shortage of good Asian cuisine in our area, but this was hands down the best experience we've had in a long time since Jhuang Ho closed. The new decor is very upscale and the new additions to the menu are fun and exciting. We especially enjoyed the Dry Pot--but beware, we asked for medium hot and it was spicy! It was also delicious and exotic. Cold noodles were very good too. I would say the only thing that wasn't exceptional was the scallion pancakes. Flavor was good, but they were a little heavy and thicker than that light crispy delight I'm used to. Overall, a fantastic experience--and yes, our servers were masked and they seated us every other table which was comforting. My husband and I had an early dinner here last Friday night and had a great experience. We were impressed by the updated, clean decor of the dining room. We tried the yuzu lemonade cocktails which were refreshing, but strong! We had a difficult time deciding whether we wanted to try their Chinese or Japanese options for dinner so we ordered a little of both. The boneless spare ribs were cooked perfectly and had a delicious glaze over them. The fried rice was extremely flavorful and obviously very fresh. We tried the Manhattan and James sushi rolls which were some of the best we have ever had. Our favorite dish of the meal was the General Tso's chicken which had perfectly crispy fried pieces of white meat chicken tossed in a delicious spicy sweet sauce. Since it was an early meal and we were the only ones in the dining room, we experienced immediate, personalized service. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly throughout our entire visit. Delicious food, good price, beautiful decor, great service and cleanliness. Came here for lunch with my friends and we were stunned by the classy decor. This a good spot for a nice luncheon or dinner. I ordered the EP signature Szechuan fish, spider roll, and unsweetened ice tea. I got the spider roll and the fried crab inside was freshly fried and deliciously crunchy. But the biggest stunner was definitely the EP signature Szechuan fish. Came out hot on the plate sprinkled with cilantro, peanuts, and crisp chili. The whole fried fish submerged in that flavorful sauce 10/10. The veggies included were delicious too. My friends and I demolished that fish; nothing was left. The tea was a good match with the spicy fish. I had stopped going to because the quality of the food had dropped and the decor had become a bit tacky. While I loved the original design of Pavilion and will miss it, the new design for the moment looks nice, updated and the paper decorations are gone. The menu is quite different and I miss the lunch box but the food is back to being very tasty. It needs more business before it can get the waiter staff that people were once use to but I think that will happen. Please give it a try. I was reintroduced to Eastern Pavilion by my daughter and son in law. I was so impressed with their renovation, food and service that I hosted her bridal shower in April and wedding rehearsal dinner in May there. Yes, it was that awesome! Daisy, the now-retired hostess/front end, was the dynamo who made coming here a joy. Fast forward to now, I've gone from impressed to annoyed and downright disappointed. After a long week of work, I was looking forward to dinner at what I once considered a local go to Chinese food place. Once there, I checked in on Yelp. A 10% coupon surprisingly popped up. I was thrilled! When I showed the unfriendly woman at the register, she said that what I was showing her was not this restaurant. I proved to her that it was. She then responded that I could only use the 10% coupon IF I paid in cash. Needless to say, I did get to use the coupon, which would have been a whole whopping $3.40 off. Already with a bad taste in my mouth after this experience, I got home to dig into just okay Chinese food that I can get anywhere. Good but not the great I had come to love. We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for my birthday dinner. It took them a half hour to even seat us. Once seated no-one ever came over to give us menus or take drink orders. The only person that ever came over was the bus boy. And thank goodness because at least we had water to drink. We finally had to get up to hunt someone down to give us menus. We ordered after having to flag someone down. When our one appetizer out of the few we had ordered actually arrived the egg rolls were ice cold. When we got our dinners not all of them arrived so we just ate what came so that we could finally leave. We were there for a total of 3 hours, and in that time saw others be seated and leave, we should have done the same. All in all it was a memorable birthday but for all the wrong reasons. read more

Wow.... what a disappointment. Let's start with the drinks. Anything you order from the menu is not available, only the mai tai which they push onto every single guest. Not only did the drinks take 20 minutes to come, but our food took over 1.5 hours to arrive. We had to ask for tea and chips. Still waiting on the chips. Water glasses were never filled and the wait staff seemed like they were on the verge of a breakdown. Our server kept hitting his head on the light fixture and seemed very distressed. We were also very uncomfortable. Oh and our food was placed on another table and strangers breathed on it. Our waiter also ignored us. NOT TO MENTION my shrimp tempura was NOT de-veined, so everyone is eating shit literally. Thanks to Alyssa Guidice suggestion!! Made it to David Lin's Eastern Pavilion (EP) Asian Restaurant in setauket this evening for their soft opening. Opens full swing tomorrow!! What a delight! I had a coconut sakitini which was soo delicious! Starters: wonton soup, egg drop, huge egg roll, yummy spring roll, friend pork dumplings (omg!!! Yumm) and the boneless spareribs ribs were beyond delicious! Everything was so fresh. Dinner: sesame chicken, pepper steak and onions, seafood lovers nest nestled in a crispy wonton nest, seafood deluxe in a sizzling platter!! Along side orders of pork & shrimp fried rice. Yummmm! I tasted everything and was not disappointed. Sooo much food we all left stuffed to the brim and large portions all around. Fresh authentic Chinese fare for the win!!! The atmosphere was beautiful and outdoor waterfall was just beautiful. Next trip... will try the sushi side of the house!! I decided to try Eastern Pavilion when my friend suggested that this place recently renovated, and I was astonished by how beautiful this place looks. Aside from the aesthetic aspect of the restaurant, the service was perfect! 10/10!! Chef Ryan and co chef Joe prepared me a roll which was spectacular!! Never had a sushi roll without rice and seaweed but it was fantastic and super healthy. They provide a wide variety of Asian cuisine, and I think everyone should try this place at least once. This place will be now my go to for all Japanese and Chinese needs. The ambiance and environment really speaks for itself..! read more

Best place to get Chinese food on the north shore. There are not too many sit down Chinese restaurants anymore but this place is good.

UPDATE: The owner, David Lin, graciously reached out to me to personally apologize. I appreciate that he did that. I understand Christmas was the perfect storm and they were not able to provide the service they normally would. I hope to go back and enjoy another meal in the future. As I said, the food was not the issue. I am adding a star for now, but will post a new review once we have a new experience to share. read more

This place really hit the spot for my Chinese food/chicken with broccoli craving. The service was efficient and the manager was exceptional! I ordered to go with my coworker so we could eat before our shift. I checked in with Yelp and got my 10% discount which was awesome. The chicken with broccoli came with a small container of white rice but it was a good size for the amount of food I got. There was a very good balance of chicken and broccoli, not too much of either ingredient. The sauce was the traditional chicken with broccoli sauce and it was not too overwhelming. A little touch which pleasantly surprised me was that they included 2 bags of oolong tea with the other sauces that normally come with the meal. This impressed me and definitely made me a returning customer. Taken as a whole I really enjoyed the food here and look forward to my next visit. read more
