Asian fusion spots are always hit or miss for me, but I can confidently say that Golden Star does a good job of executing all of the different offerings on their menu. My husband and I have been ordering takeout from Golden Star for many years, and though we don't live locally anymore, Golden Star is our go-to spot when we can't decide between Chinese food or sushi. Love how we can get the best of both worlds. Our typical order usually includes - BBQ Spare Ribs - Jumbo Shrimp with Honey Walnuts - Shrimp Tempura Roll - Salmon Tempura Roll - Salmon Avocado Roll Sushi is usually made well. The rice to filling ratio is perfect in which the rolls are not overly rolled with rice. The tempura seafood inside of the rolls are always nicely crispy adding a good texture/crunch to each sushi piece. With respect to the kitchen items, they are also usually cooked well. The BBQ Spare Ribs are tender and flavorful and the Jumbo Shrimp with Honey Walnuts is always generously packed with lots of shrimp. Love the combination of pineapple and walnuts they also include in the mix of the dish. A nice combination of sweet and savory! Is Golden Star the best Asian, Chinese, Sushi I've ever had?...Definitely not. However they are a solid choice (and one of the better choices in terms of taste and quality) in the area. We typically order our food for pickup, so I cannot comment on the delivery service. We have not had any issues going into the restaurant to pick up. They are repeatedly ripping off consumers by charging 3.9% for credit card use even when you use a debit card. I believe this is illegal. New legislation is now underway in NY to no longer allow any business to charge the customer for a credit card fee unless their menu prices are the same prices they charge for using a credit card. When I brought this up to them at time of check out they were rude and indignant. Find another Asian restaurant to give your business to right down the road. read more

I came in years ago, and my experience was less than spectacular even though the food itself was pretty good; Today, I figured enough time has passed and they are still there, getting mixed reviews; I woke up after the long drinking weekend with a hankering and remembered they have everything under the sun, from Japanese and sushi rolls to Chinese food classics... time to break out the wallet and shell out for way too much food! I got a slew of various things for the three of us spending quite a lot of money at the same time. $50 later I had the delicious roast pork appetizer, the pretty decent general tsos and pineapple chicken dishes, veggie lo mein which I never order but was good, and some hot n sour soup; it was all very good but I'm not sure I felt okay spending like ten bucks too much for all of this... then again, it was hot n fresh and ready in 15 minutes. I'm very disappointed with this place as I had high hopes for their vegan menu. They started us with a complimentary appetizer that wasn't vegan and when we asked for something vegan instead they let us know they don't do that. This is pretty disappointing considering they have a whole vegan menu. Most places who offer vegan options have a complimentary appetizer option that is meat, egg, and dairy free. I don't understand why they didn't offer a cup of soup or something instead as they used to do this. Sadly, I will not be returning and will let all the other vegan posts know of my experience. Attend a birthday party on Sunday. Very disappointed in the service. The bartender could not handle the drinks. It was not her fault. She had no help. No Manager there. Our waitress was never around and when she was around she did not understand what we needed (no english). I have attended a party before at the same place, but it was well organized. I came here a lot with my family when I used to live around the area but I feel like the quality has gone down quite a bit. At a glance, the decor of the restaurant is rather extravagant. There's ample seating, including large booths and tables that could be put together for large groups. There is also a nice traditional touch when it comes to the decorations placed around the restaurant, which I really appreciated. The menu is very extensive with pages and pages of options, including Chinese, Japanese and even a multitude of vegetarian options. This time, I opted for the lunch special since I came on a weekday, which is accompanied by a soup and pork fried rice. The soup was littered with white pepper, it was unbearable. I'm not sure if it was accidental but it was impossible to finish. The main dish was decent. The portion for the sesame chicken was rather generous but seemed to be equal parts breading as it was chicken, which wasn't favorable. When I realized this I called the restaurant and the woman who answered went ballistic and would not acknowledge their error or refund the missing items. Overall a very enjoyable experience. The atmosphere was very calming, unlike some restaurants I know of. The lights were dim, the music wasn't very loud and the decor was very nice. Very friendly service overall and had my waitress checking on me constantly to see if I needed a refill or anything else. The pork fried rice had a large amount of pork which is uncommon for most Chinese places I've been to. The General Tso's chicken was not too spicy but was still flavorful. The only downside to this experience was the cheese wontons. The corners seemed dried out but after taking the corners off, the inside was good. I definitely will come here again and look forward to trying more items on their menu. I came here with a friend who didn't like sushi, but likes chinese food. This place was perfect for us because I was really in the mood for sushi, and it's right down the road from me. On the outside, this place looks dingy, but inside it's actually clean and nicely decorated. The service we received was fast and friendly, and we got quite a lot of food for not much money at all. The entrees were reasonably priced, and the appetizers and desserts were very cheap ($3 edamame and $3 banana tempura). Also, they give you a decent sized bowl of wonton crackers and dipping sauces to munch on. The sushi was good too; not the best I've ever had, but good quality, unique rolls with fresh ingredients. From the outside, this restaurant is seemingly dingy. When you walk in, you'll find that it's actually nicely decorated with a large dining area and many tables and booths. They have a vast menu that covers everything from standard take-out Chinese food, to entrees like Cantonese-style lobster, to pad thai, to various sushi rolls. The drink menu is vast as well... but seeing how I came here for lunch and had to return to work afterwards, I controlled myself (barely). I ordered the "Roll Combo" Sushi Lunch Special -- $7.95 for any 2 maki rolls and soup or salad. I had the Alaskan Roll and the Mango & Shrimp Roll. The lunch partner had the Philly Roll and the Crunchy Spicy Salmon Roll. Everything was good, no complaints! The egg rolls are good too! HOWEVER the sesame chicken (all white meat) was absolutely disgusting. I apologize for the use of such an intense word but it wasn't even chicken. When you open a piece up It's just this weird doughy-meat on the inside that resembles mash potatoes? Some pieces didn't even have chicken it was just all breading. Roaches!
