My wife and I ate at the Eastern Pearl in Webster, MA and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We have tried several Chinese restaurants in the area and find that the Eastern Pearl in Webster, MA to be one of the best. The food is very good and they don't skimp on the portion size. The Lo Mein noodles and egg rolls are the best we've had. Just a fair warning to anyone with a walking impairment or who uses a wheelchair: The cement at the beginning of the ramp for disabled or handicapped is crumbling somewhat. I will say that is is a beautiful place, very well preserved old building that was well decorated. Aside from that the food was disappointing. I came because of the 4.5 star rating. I found the food unfairly priced, I paid the same for an avocado roll and a cucumber roll and terrible salad as my friend paid for a spicy tuna roll and volcano roll again with the terrible salad. My rolls were good but for $9 for lunch, I left hungry and unsatisfied feeling overcharged. The bento box lunches looked good but no substitutions were allowed without paying more, even subbing a cucumber roll for a California roll. read more

One star because I can't give zero. I cannot believe the way that I was treated last night. I've worked in the industry for over 7 years as a server bartender and this is my first complaint I've ever had to make. Bartender was extremely rude. Gave me a drink when I didn't ask for one and then argues with me about it (so I just took it). Then we finally get the food and half of it was hot and the other half was ice cold. I explained the temperature differences and how I know that it wasn't his fault. His response was to laugh at me, telling me the food was exactly 200 degrees l. So I asked for a manager, he leans in and tells me he IS the manager. Then he continued to argue with me, talked over me and "shooed" me away and told me to stop making a scene (in front of customers). I OBVIOUSLY don't go here for the service (usually someone vacuuming under our table or other unacceptable behaviors) or the food because it's kinda gross and the wait for it is long.. I go there because it is convenient but now I definitely won't be. You've lost repeat customers because of who you've employed as your manager. I don't expect much.. I eat here every year when I visit MA, it is consistently good, and I especially like their teriyaki chicken skewers and crag rangoons. I had shrimp with lobster sauce this time, and my mom had shrimp with broccoli. Both were good but just a bit salty. I think they could cut back a bit on the salt or soy sauce and it would be really good, but other then that I don't have any other complaints. Our waitress was very polite, attentive, and efficient. So excited to see that this space, which used to house a bank, has been upcycled into a great new Asian restaurant. Far as I'm concerned, this is the only place you should consider getting sushi in the Webster area. Super nice inside, spacious bar. When you walk into the Eastern Pearl you would think you're not in Webster. With its hanging chandelier, wood trim and pleasant ambiance everything about being downtown Webster seems to pass once you pass through those doors. The staff is friendly and attentive (mostly) and when I have gone it has been pleasantly quiet. The interior is fairly well lit which is nice. Not overly bright where you're instantly blinded from the lights nor too dark where you need a flashlight to navigate where you're going. They have booth seating and standard table seating. The bar area is not bad holds about 15 people or so but never sat there so I don't know if they have the whole menu there or not. Every time I have gone the place is sparkling and very clean. I've seen once somebody leaves the staff immediately jump up and start cleaning the table and setting it for the next group of guests. Their interior is a bit open so sound can travel especially when it gets busier and forget it when a little kid or baby is brought in and starts to cry. Its not a fault of the restaurant though, more the parents not being able to keep their kids under control. If that happens shoot an angry look at the parents and they will usually try to quiet their kids. Their food, oh man their food. Everything I've gotten was amazing. Their sushi rolls are made very well and don't fall apart or are flimsy and very well packed. Their Crazy roll is to die for. First time I went the server we had was very helpful and attentive. Asked if we had any questions or if we knew what some of the things were on the menu and if we didn't she explained what it was and what it contained which is nice for new adventurers of the Asian cuisine. I also went for their special lunch bentos and was utterly blown away. I ordered the beef teriyaki and it was so tender and moist it almost melted once I bit into it. Be aware though, the orange you get with it is only about 1/4 of a full orange. I thought I was going to get a half but it was still good, a nice little serving of fruit for a bento. Their soups are always amazing and the seafood soup is packed with flavorful broth and goodies, granted its hard to screw up a soup, still makes me want to go back. One time though I did see somebody eating a sushi roll with a fork and knife. Yes a butter-knife. So if you go please don't butcher the rolls with fork and knife, use the chopsticks and the staff is more than happy to make you the starter chopsticks. Other than that everything about the Pearl really is amazing. I expect I will be going back very soon if not later today. XD read more

I couldn't agree with Jack F. more-- east coast Asian seems to be an infusion of the entire continent under one menu. The sushi was fresh, the chinese food looked like your standard American-Chinese/Mandarin/Cantonese variety and for the Japanese I had the Hibachi Chicken which I suspect is very much like the Teriyaki Chicken. Real Hibachi gets its flavor from the smoke of the grill as I've had it in Tokyo. The salad had WAY too much dressing on it, but the salad itself was fresh and the Onion Soup was good too. The restaurant is a converted old time bank-- Webster downtown itself looks a bit like an old Hollywood Western town with a lot of low scale businesses. My fellow diners impressed me with their overgrown beards, a huge variety of dress T-Shirts proclaiming the various Monster Truck Ralley's they've attended and even a wife beater shirt or two. Really? Is this how you go out to a nice restaurant? And I'm not kidding it was EVERYONE in the restaurant. My wife asked why they didn't have a dress code, and the host replied because they wouldn't have any customers if they did. Scary. read more

After a 5 1/2 hour road trip to my home from Atlantic City, I was in the mood for some Asian food. My sister recommended Eastern Pearl, located in downtown Webster. It is located in a former Webster Five Savings Bank. The place is full of character, and is BIG! Lots of tables and giant bar full of liquor. I would definitely come back here for a drink. I was originally in the mood for some Pad Thai (located on the menu under noodles, i think mistakenly), but once I saw crab rangoons, boneless ribs, and chicken wings, I changed my mind and wanted comforting Chinese food. All was good-- the boneless ribs were really good. The rangoons good and the chicken wings good. A little bit greasy but that is to be expected. The price was good for 2, under $22. I went here based on the reviews, and tried both the sushi, sake and combination dinner. I had also ordered soup, but that ultimately never showed up. - The service was slow and unimpressive. The soup we ordered never showed up, and even after making eye contact with the waiter to try to flag him down, he still just walked away. Unimpressive. - Having spent the last 12+ years in the Seattle area, I am always baffled as to why Asian restaurants here in Massachusetts (where I grew up) can't seem to pick a single country of origin and run with it - the sushi (tuna and mango roll) was less than stellar with not much flavor and lackluster presentation. - The combination dinner was good - portions were generous, food was hot, but it was your usual Americanized fake Chinese food where somehow the boneless spare ribs are electric red (which is obviously nothing more than tons of food coloring). - I would bet money that the lychee sake I ordered was watered down No restaurant serving run-of-the-mill deep-fried pre-made Chinese food is worthy of 5 stars. Stopped in for a quick drink at the bar before an appointment and was appalled at what I saw behind the bar! The bartender took customers empty glasses and put them in a sink of water (no soap) that she had just dumped ice from someone's drink in. She then proceeded to take the glasses out of the water and wipe them with a towel and place them on the shelf!!!!! Never washed/disinfected them! She then proceeded to soak a cloth into that water and wash down the counter and sink with it and never changed the water yet put more glasses into it! read more

After spending years in Los Angeles, I was very surprised to find a place like this in Webster MA. I ordered a couple sushi rolls, the food was good, not the best I have had, but definitely good and not something I expected to find in good old Webster Massachusetts. There are a lot of menu options ranging from sushi to yakisoba to mongolian BBQ. The interior is pretty fancy, it kind of reminds me of a bar scene. Prices are fair. read more

This seems to be a popular stop in town but every time I've ordered from here I've been more and more dissatisfied. Food is poor quality so they drench it in sauce to cover it up. First year the food was quite good and service was good. Then the service got lousy and the food got lousier. Attitude of management is that you are doing them a favor by eating there, WRONG... that isn't how it works. Before I stopped going altogether I found foreign objects in my food on more than one occasion and owner thought it was funny. No apology. I should have just gone to the board of health. Additionally every time I went with a party of four or more at least two people didn't get their food until everyone else was done and ready to leave. We have been eating here and getting take out since they opened. I especially enjoyed their sushi HOWEVER the last two times we got take out from there were COMPLETE disasters. Last week they forgot to put on of our items in the bag and when we called them and took it back they argued with my husband and asked us if we were sure that WE didn't make the mistake. This week my husband checked to make sure the right number of containers were in the bag, and the woman got annoyed that he was checking. When he got it all home my meal was wrong and the food that I did get was awful! I'm done, never going back again. It used to be great but not anymore. This is my favorite restaurant for food from the Far East. Always fresh, tasty and unique items not found anywhere in town or nearby towns as far as that's concerned. My only disappointment is that the hot mustard seems to be lacking the hotness. Almost tastes like they water it down. I always try something different when I go. Webster mysteriously has tons of Chinese food restaurants, and this is the one I go to all the time even though it is the longest drive. The food is always good, reasonably prices, and best of all, always cooked quickly and is ready on time. Not sure what is happening to eastern pearl but man have they gone downhill. Used to be THE best around, but the past 2 times we have gone within 3 months have not been good. They have gotten very skimpy in their serving sizes from what used to be the norm. They also keep making mistakes on WHAT we order. I do believe it is from the lack of understanding English. The staff also needs to step it up. Last 2 times we were there, a staff member was sleeping in the boothe!!! Sadly will not be going back. Chinese food in Webster always meant the Windtiki or takeout from some sketchy hole in the wall (which can be great, but still). Eastern Pearl is not only a new alternative for both takeout and dine-in, but has quickly become the best Chinese food in town. The combination plates in particular are outstanding -- your main item, fried or white rice, and two generous sides for under ten bucks. Lo mein, chow mein, and sushi have also gotten good reviews from friends and family. The restaurant space is not huge but there's plenty of room, and the renovated bank makes for an interesting style. All in all Eastern Pearl is a great new arrival to the area and will hopefully become a fixture. read more

After being told how great they were by someone, I was excited to give this place a try. We waited almost ten minutes for our drinks, which did not arrive together. The cocktail arrived before a soda, which I had to remind our waiter to bring. When my sushi arrived I was impressed by how good the tuna looked. The problem was that I didnt order tuna. Someone must have clued the waiter in, because a minute later he came back and told me it was the wrong dish, as he unceremoniously pulled it away from me. I went in about an hour before closing and was instantly looked at like I was an inconvenience. While taking my order I felt like my waitress forced me into making a decision. The food came out quick but was subpar. While some people on our party were still eating, the waitress brought us our our bill and continually asked us if we done paying. On our way outside the waitress ran up to us, informed me that I had signed the customer copy and proceeded to ask me if I wanted another drink, might I add I was drinking water the entire time I was there. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone being this was the only time I went there and was extremely dissatisfied with the quality of customer service. I enjoy this restaurant very much. The sushi is very good and the other menu items I've tried were all exceptionally good. I do however disagree with them charging $1.95 for fountain soda and re-charging you for a refill. When you have dinner for two and the bill comes to $50 and you find $8 of that bill was because you each got a refill, that's borderline greed in my opinion. This policy was recently put in place and I don't care for it at all. So beware as they don't tell you you'll be paying for it when they offer you a refill. read more
