I was happy to find an electrician who could come solve an issue with short notice during a stressful time for me. After quite a few hours of work to remedy the situation and a decent size bill, I was extremely disappointed that I had to call him back just a few days later after I realized the state my home was left in. All of the outlets in the room that was worked on would only function if the light switch was on, which was not how I wanted it, and was discussed (nor was it how the room was ever wired!)! I don't know why someone would leave my home in this unusable state and then charge me again to come back and fix it! After the second trip and payment, I tried to reach Jim MANY times via phone call and email to discuss my dissatisfaction to no avail. He will not return any of my correspondence after I've expressed concern over the work that was done and cost. Jim was responsive to my request for service and able to come out and fix the problem same day as he had parts he needed on his truck. He is highly knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things electrical and make recommendations on future work and balance that with cost effectiveness. In talking with him he does both big and small jobs. I've reviewed some of the other reviews. Keep in mind he is in demand and a sole proprietor so very busy in having to take phone calls while working. I set up an appointment with Jim for an estimate on some work in my basement. He didn't show up. I called and he said that he had accidentally written it down wrong. Ok, we all make mistakes, I can live with that. We agreed he would come out the next morning. Didn't show up. I don't have time to waste on someone like this. Really disappointed. Read the reviews and thought I would love to support a local electrician in my neighborhood. Talked to Jim once and then I called several times, sent messages and still haven't heard back. Jim- that is not true. I didn't see my email until two days later after I wrote the review. I tried contacting you for an entire week and a half. You could of told me the first day we talked that you were going to be out. But instead left me to believe you could help me. I ordered a fixture that is a couple hundred dollars and if it wasn't going to work then I need to return it. I am also a mother to twins and don't have the time to be sending you 5 text messages in a row and then emailing you. Jim came out the day after I called him, he would have come out the same day except for a screw up on my end. We had multiple problems that he was able to fix and get all our outlets and switches working. YAY!! He got here around 4:30 & I think our job ended up being way more than he thought it would be, he was here until 7. Poor guy still had one more job to get to. This was the second company I called. First one wanted to schedule a visit to bid replacing 5 smoke detectors that I already purchased. That didn't work for me. So I called Eastgate and Jim not only gave me a reasonable bid over phone but came out same day. That's awesome service. I didn't end up needing Jim after he gave me some tips over yelp message --- and for that he deserves 5 stars. We had blown out our bathroom outlet, could not get it to work again despite trying to reset the breaker. Wrote over a dozen places for quotes and everyone had costs of $150-300, and waits of 3+ weeks for something that was obviously a minor service that we just didn't know how to fix. Or they would ask where I lived before they could give me a quote (not sure why that matters unless you are trying to price people based on their presumed income.) Jim was different from the rest -- simply wrote back with recommended instructions on what to try and to contact him again if it didn't work. It did, at no cost and huge time savings for us. After being jerked around by various contractors, I can't say enough how much I appreciate Jim's kindness. Will be keeping him in mind for when we have a paying job read more

We had Eastgate do several jobs at our house: troubleshoot old wiring in our 100 year old basement and install lighting and switches down there; install a light in our upper stairwell where there was no wiring for one, but where 2-way switches suggested the house had a light there once (he got those working with it too and moved one to a better location); and wire a fan in our gas fireplace for which the connection had been cut during a remodel. Before hiring Jim, we also had another company come by for an estimate. The gentleman from that company doubted the last two jobs could be done due to tight or awkward access. Eastgate took care of it ALL just wonderfully and for a fair price. They are great problem solvers, very efficient, trustworthy, and just all-around nice people. read more

I called regarding an outlet that sparked when I plugged in my vacuum. Of course, every light and outlet on that line was no longer working. They answered right away and walked me through how to fix the problem then and there on the phone. Needless to say I was very pleased! My outlets and lights are all functioning as before. Jim was amazing to work with. I needed to have my electrical box inspected and repaired following a home inspection for a sale on the hurry. Jim came out the next day, on a Saturday afternoon to help me get the project done. He was able to fix all of the problems that the inspector had found no problem. He then showed me what was an even bigger safety concern, that two other electricians and two home inspectors didn't see. He fixed up and cleaned up our electrical box like I'm sure hadn't been done in forty years. He is a old fashioned, hard working tradesman, truly one of the last. Can I give 10 stars?? After a botched kitchen remodel left some scary-looking wiring in my wall and the stove kept tripping the breaker, I called several companies to get some help with the electrical. They were all several weeks out even just to take a look. When I called Eastgate Electric, I initially hung up when the voicemail gave a different phone number, but called again. John picked up, and asked if they could call me back. Jim called me within an hour, and said he'd stop by that same evening on his way home after work. And he did! It was a Monday. He discovered the issues, diagnosed everything and found the stove was wired up wrong. He promised to come back later in the week, and was super pleasant with loads of advice. He came back Friday afternoon and worked late on all the issues. Then came back and spent his Sunday afternoon finishing up. He is so nice, caring, personable, and our family considers him a personal friend now! If you need electrical done right, or just a diagnosis to confirm, call them, you will not regret it. We had a fire hazard or three, and Jim resolved them. So happy I called them!! read more
