We had to get electrical service run to a new hot tub on our patio, and NXNW sent Todd and Wyatt to do the work. The job was probably not the most pleasant, due to some of what we were looking for, but those guys dug in and crushed it! A large part of the job was to get into the crawlspace beneath my 30 year old house, and I didn't envy them for it, but Todd knocked it out with a smile and a great attitude! The work the guys did was technically and aesthetically superb, and they did it all while remaining friendly, upbeat, and very polite. Wyatt is still new to the trade, but I could see that he was competent and energetic, and even had to customize a piece for a section of cable. If I ever need any further electrical, I intend to call NXNW, and I intend to request Todd and Wyatt! Highly recommended! read more

1 evening 2 weeks ago, sweetie and I were relaxing watching TV, when all of a sudden the lights started flickering getting dim going up getting dim going up flickering. And it wasn't even Halloween! So we went to bed early, the next morning I called an electric company I won't mention their name. They said it wouldn't be until October 7 before they could get out here. Well, who wants to wait that long for to get their lights turned back on. So I called North by Northwest. The electrician was there within 15 minutes. I had also called CRPUD, and they arrived about the same time. The electrician went to the house and didn't really find anything. He did find that maybe one of our breakers have been that my husband said one of their breakers had been replaced, which was wonderful. But the problem ended up being CRPUD problem. Hallelujah! Anyway, I really appreciated them coming out so quickly the response so quickly. I've never had anybody be that responsive. And excellent customer service Troy was wonderful. And I think them very much for that. It was a great experience and I would recommend them highly. read more

We used Yelp's service provider search service to find someone in Portland to help us correctly replace 2 sets of 3-way light switches. I spoke to a couple of electricians through the service and ultimately selected Troy from North by Northwest since they had a better website. The quote we were given was $425 which felt steep but we needed someone out there ASAP since our tenant was without lights in the upstairs or downstairs hallways. Troy came out to meet us 2 days later, which felt relatively fast. He showed up late, not terribly so, but surprising since he said he was free and on his way. When he showed up he only had a flat screwdriver, no toolbox, no wire cutters or extra wire, or any sort of tools for the job. He started to poke around the light switches and immediately said "well I won't be able to do it because I didn't bring extra wire or a multimeter". At that point our tenant looked immediately annoyed that I had brought an electrician that wasn't prepared and that he would clearly not be getting light in the hallways as expected. Troy nonchalantly called someone named Chris and asked him if he could come later in the day to replace the light switches. Chris agreed to come later that afternoon and our tenant agreed to be home and receive Chris. I wasn't there to meet Chris but it sounds like he was far more professional and quickly replaced the light switches and tested them in multiple ways. Our tenant is happy as the light switches are working correctly and he has hallway lights again! Would like to add that Troy has let me know he is the owner and was not prepared because he doesn't drive the utility vans like his employees, including Chris, do. Their price was reasonable, so I went with them and the next day an electrician came, diagnosed & repaired the problem. We got multiple estimates from a few different services via Yelp's project functionality for some 240v outlets after we had a hard time getting hold of the neighborhood favorite. North by Northwest had the best estimate, but was also the only company where the electrician who did the estimate bothered to actually do more than a cursory examination of our very old, very full (and very messy) electrical panel. We ended up having them replace the whole thing on top of adding the outlets and they did a great job at a very reasonable price compared to the other estimates we received for the outlets alone. read more
