Eastlake Veterinary hospital did a great job examining my sweet, sensitive pup, "Sessi" or "Sesame". She is a gentle mix breed that was rehomed to me and love and light of my life. I was offered solutions to problems I couldn't handle on my own, including nail trims (on our primary visit - which they tried but couldn't complete), mental health evals and suggestions for meds if she wouldn't learn to take walks and a great visit that included her weight treatment plan, mental health plan, dental care (going forward). The Veterinarian who examined my dog was gentle, thorough and listened to all of my concerns with deep care for my best friend. I will continue to take Sessi/Sesame to Eastlake Veterinary Hospital. They are thorough, treat the animal with respect and the human being. Since our visit, Sessi has learned to relax in her new home, is closer with me (her owner) and is learning to enjoy walks without the help of meds - on her terms :). Her anxiety's dropped, she appears healthier, more content, confident and happy in her small place. Horrendous. Tl;DR: The new staff doesn't respect pet parents or the pets themselves as creatures who deserve a death with dignity. We were patients of Eastlake Vet Hospital for over a decade. Dr. D'Orazio was amazing and genuinely cared about the physical and emotional health and well-being of our pets. He was always frank and upfront about the possible outcomes of any given situation. He was there to cry with us when our cat had advanced cancer and needed to be put to rest. He paid tribute to our Newfoundland that he got from puppyhood to his last minutes--staying late to be with him during the pandemic. When we got a new puppy, he told him all about our old puppy. He truly loved our animals. With the vets shortage as it is, I made an appt with a feline practice to diagnose my 9 year old cat with advanced dental disease and a severe cardiomyopathy which would make surviving the surgery unlikely. That vet confirmed after blood work that it was probably the most humane thing to do to let him rest peacefully. I called Eastlake to see if they could get us in for the procedure because it's been where we lost all of our other pets and the staff had always been so kind. We showed up with test results and had already explained our plan--which we made with a vet who keeps the whole cat in mind, and doesn't focus on keeping them alive just to make people feel better. The vet-who I don't think even told us his name--came into the office and started examining our cat. He was asking about his eating patterns and what not. I was confused and tried to reiterate that we were there to say goodbye to our cat that we loved enough not to put through treatments that he likely wouldn't survive. It was then that he proceeded to try to talk us into surrendering our cat to the humane society because someone would treat him. No amount of explaining to this guy that this wasn't about the money--prior to his blood work up, we had scheduled a full dental removal surgery--made him just STOP with his preaching about how other people would do better by our pet that we didn't want to lose--but also didn't want him to suffer. When he realized how upset my husband, son, and I were he started talking about how he never meant for it to come across this way and he feels really bad and doesn't want to be put in this position... my son said, "This isn't about you or YOUR feelings." We all walked out at that point, all of us in tears, because this heartless guy seemed to believe that we just wanted to be rid of our cat and somehow putting him in a cage at a 'rescue' would be better for him than us stopping his pain while his whole family was next to him. Never, ever again! The few times we've taken our pets there since the staff changed, it's been cold, unfriendly, and nothing like it was before they took over. Having to lose a pet is incredibly awful. Having a vet staff who wants to drag your pet through treatments just for him to feel better should be a huge red flag. I truly hope this is a lesson for him about how to handle the fact that sometimes it's just time to let pets go. He may see pets die every day... but our family didn't deserve having to justify the loss we were already grieving when he decided his feeling and his animal welfare agenda was more important than the cat and people in front of him. read more

I have taken my adopted cat here for three years now, and also took my foster dog here once. The staff here are kind, professional and truly care about animals. They are upfront with pricing- a whole body check up/wellness visit for my cat costs around $73 I believe, a visit for a dog is a little more. Due to covid they will now bring your animal in while you wait outside, and the Dr will call you with any results or suggestions. I recently brought my cat in for sneezing and congestion and they checked her over, diagnosed her with a URI and called me to offer either a one time antibiotic shot or about two weeks of oral antibiotics (a cheaper option). I opted for the second. Not even a full day later I haven't heard my cat sneeze once and she loves the meds taste so much she actually eats it voluntarily, despite being a rather picky eater. Honestly I don't have any complaints, I find the price is fair for the quality of treatment your pet receives. Even though I don't live near eastlake anymore I will continue to happily drive my cat here for her future vet visits. read more

I took my two dogs in today for a 9:15appt. I was a bit frazzled by the time I arrived because there was a lot of traffic and I had my toddler with me. I walked in without a mask and was immediately met with attitude from the front desk about not wearing a mask. I felt like there was this instant assumption that I am an anti-masker, which is not the case. I quickly put on a mask. No big deal. After about five minutes I was told that my daughter needed to wear a mask as well because "all people in healthcare facilities must wear masks." There was no one else in the reception area besides us and the two women working at the front desk. I didn't respond and put a mask on the toddler. The DOH does not require masks for anyone under the age of 5. The Order from the Secretary of Health explicitly states that children under 5 are exempt. This exemption applies to healthcare facilities as well. Even though masks are required in healthcare facilities, it's a stretch to consider the veterinary clinic a healthcare facility as defined in the Order from the Secretary of Health. Just a tip - put a sign on your door for people to see before they enter indicating that you're a business that is requiring masking. Problem solved. No need to lie about the Order. Finally, at 945 we were taken to a room. At 955, I opened the door and asked if the veterinarian was coming. Again, our appt was at 915 and no one else was there. The vet was walking to the door at that moment and then shortly thereafter began the exam. She was fine and provided an adequate level of care. My instinct was to walk out after interacting with the front desk staff, and I wish I would have. It appears that quality of service has definitely declined since Dr. Anderson retired, and I do not think that we will be returning. read more

Awe hey!!! I got my first pet ever! And it's a 7 weeks old goldendoodle pupper!! Naturally I brought him to the vet within a few days of getting him!! Even tho the breeder told me to wait a few weeks! This place is nice. Nice to my pup! Free parking! Free treats for baby! My pup was quite happy here. So happy he napped on the exam table :D And we also happened to saw an Italian vet!! Dr D'Orazio! He gave us shots!! Meds! So on! And nurse Katie: we like her since she gave my pup so many milk bones :) Overall, we like this place! It's also down the street from where I live!! The staff is wonderful (which is why I gave two stars) however, I am disenchanted with the Vet. My dog was scheduled to have several skin tags and minor lumps removed. It was requested, after I scheduled this surgery, that she have blood work done despite having it done a few months prior. I agreed but asked what would be done differently with the new information. I was not given an answer. I was unexpectedly forced to go out of town the morning that the blood draw was scheduled. I left a message 2 days prior to the appointment that I had an emergency and that I would have to reschedule the blood draw. I called back the following Wednesday to sort out the blood work and was fully prepared that the surgery might have to be pushed. Instead, I was notified my dog was removed from the surgery calendar and a new requirement of a cardiologist checkup was given to me. None of this was communicated to me, either via email or phone. I only found out because I followed up. If the vet would have voiced this requirement at the onset I would not have blinked an eye, but it came in the 11th hour and it wasn't even conveyed to me until I called the office. In other words, the vet canceled my dog's surgery, added a new requirement (cardiologists take a long time to see) all without any type of communication. Further, my dog was admitted to the ER in May (she got ahold of one of my inhalers), so the previous records were extensive and recent. Vet is non-communicative and is incapable of articulating any justification for his requests, all while adding new requirements at the last minute. Further, I detailed an email of all 9 spots I wanted him to examine during the initial visit. He didn't bother to read the email and called me to ask what I wanted him to examine. He doesn't seem to value communication or patient education. He feels entitled to undo agreed-to plans without reason or notification. We had just moved to the area so the relationship was new. I am looking for a new vet as we speak. read more

They are truly awful humans - we've been to a handful of vets as we've moved a fair bit and never once have we encountered staff that treats people and their animals as poorly as we were treated. We (and our Maine Coon Henry) love our Vet Dr. Alex Shearer. He and the entire office staff were clear with their communication, spent time with us discussing Henrys current and ongoing health, and I can just tell they are all wonderful people who care deeply about animals. It's a great sign how calm Henry was during and after his appointment (even during his vaccinations). I will be trusting in Dr. Shearer's judgement, recommendations, and care for Henry for years to come. Additionally, their COVID precautions were wonderful. I felt safe during the entire process. This clinic charges top dollar, But our combined experiences here were below subpar. The first visit was underwhelming, we had an appointment at 4 and we weren't helped until 4:35. We were not updated or on the now late status of our appointment by the hardly apologetic receptionist until 20 minutes past. They said they were having a really busy day but that still doesn't make it a better experience. Dr. Orazio is obviously very knowledgeable and experienced, however, his laid-back attitude, language (including the F word), and general disinterest and dismissal of my ernest questions was anything but professional and made for an all together uncomfortable experience. The girl who helped me before I saw the doctor will make a much better veterinarian. She had dark hair and glasses and also owned an orange tabby. read more

We've been bringing our pups (now 8 and 12-years-old) to Eastlake Vet for the past five years. We we moved to the area, we initially started going to another nearby vet, but their pricing seemed high and getting in for an appointment was always hit and miss. We decided to try Eastlake Vet and haven't looked back. They're excellent when it comes to service and care. Our Shiba hates going to the vet more than anything, but he seems to do well here. I appreciate that it's always easy to get in for an appointment. The vets are all fantastic - extremely knowledgeable, generous with their time, and always very sweet with our dogs. The staff is great as well. I should add that we recently had a scare with symptoms our older dog was showing. It had the potential for being much more serious, but thankfully it wasn't. I appreciated that the doctor called us the next morning (on a weekend) from home to give us an update. He knew I was worried and wanted to help reassure me soon as possible. I have a few more examples of how they have gone out of their way like this, but you get the idea. I highly recommend. read more

Very poor experience as the veterinarian spent more time selling me on their dog food instead of focusing on my sick dog. I could care less about her promoting items she probably gets a percentage of the sale. I could deal with that but what I really didn't appreciate is the way she extended her rough ways to the manner in which she treated my animal. Even though it meant a further commute south for us, we were undeterred because we felt he was such an exceptional vet. I'm a nurse but have never been a pet owner, so I'm a very anxious new cat mom.. I adopted a beautiful two year old calico and made her appointment two weeks before I even knew if I would get her for sure. Throughout the multiple phone calls I had with the the clinic staff prior to the appointment, I felt very listened to. They were so patient and kind in answering all of my questions, and they probably didn't have the time to do it. Dr. Shearer was great! Very personable and helpful in addressing my concerns about my cat. It's nice to feel like someone else cares about your loved one as much as you do! I was mostly impressed with the overall experience. The tech who came out to get my cat made me feel comfortable (I couldn't go in because of Covid restrictions) and when she brought her back she told me the office was fawning over her! The clinic also honored my "Free first vet exam" certificate from my adoption site even though they weren't on the list provided, and I am so grateful! read more

I took my English bulldog, Rex, to Eastlake Veterinary Hospital for an emergency appointment last week. The staff was very accommodating in fitting Rex into their schedule. Before we arrived, Rex was in so much pain from a hot spot that had gotten infected. He could not sit still without scratching and continued to bleed no matter how many times I tried to clean it. I will admit that I was close to tears when I walked into the hospital. With the help of 2 vet techs and Dr. D'Orazio, Rex's hot spot was cleaned out and his hair was shaved. I was amazed at how willing the vet techs were to step up and help me hold my 75 pound bulldog on the surgery table during the process. If it were not for this hospital, I would've ended up at an emergency veterinarian spending probably seven times the amount to sedate Rex in order to clean out his wound. Dr. D'Orazio was very personable and had a great amount of knowledge on Rex's breed (which is uncommon for the vets that I've seen). The vet techs were friendly and professional. Almost a week later, Rex's wound is almost completely healed and he is back to his normal self. I cannot thank this hospital enough for their help. read more

Eastlake has been my vet for maybe ten years. I was skeptical about dental care for animals as, growing up, we never treated our dogs and cats to preventative dental work. Now with my older and beloved pets, I do dental care. To know that my 11yo dog had a baby tooth that was causing him distress - it's heartbreaking to know that he suffered for a long time - maybe years - without being able to let me know. He not only is a knowledgeable doctor, but he makes me feel like he really cares about my kitten. I even got a follow-up from him a week after her visit. Not from the nurses, but directly from him.
