I love the office .I'm upset that Dr Nagel is no longer there.She has retired. trying to get used to new Dr that took over her patients

This office has the most unprofessional front desk service I have ever encounteredin a Dr's office of all places!!! My calendar alerted me that I had an appointment yesterday with Dr. Nagil but I wasnt sure I that I had made an appointment since I normally get a confirmation call or email about a week or a couple days before my appointment from doctors offices. I have been getting my eyes checked annually here in the last few years since I live and work nearby. I called the office to inquire since the alleged appointment was for 4:30 and I figured if so I would go. A woman with a Spanish accent answered and after we both exchanged the obligatory greetings I started explaining the reason I was calling and as I'm talking she suddenly puts me on hold without a word of notice. I hadn't even said my name. I was shocked and taken a back. I wait for her to return and after a few minutes and no response I hung up and called the office back. She answered again and I asked if she was the person who answered the first time I called, and put me on hold while I was in the middle of talking. She had the gall to say to me she doesn't know because there are other people answering the phones. I asked to speak to the manager and then she said the manager wasn't there (it was 3:45pm and according to google the office is open until 5pm) but what could she help me with. I again said I wanted to speak to the manager and she again says the manager isn't there. I then asked her whom I was speaking to and she said Lizzet, I believe. Then I asked her for the name of the manager and I belive she said Connie or Collene? I told her I was coming over to speak with a manager and she had the nerve to lie and tell me they were about to close! It was 3:48pm! I almost went over there to speak to anybody with authority at that point but decided not to give this individual the pleasure of wasting more of my time and getting more riled up in anger so I decided to write this review instead. This is not the first time the receptionists at this establishment have been rude when I have interacted with them. But it will be the last time! It's not cheap to visit this Dr's office. If Eastside eye associates chooses to hire classless uncivil people like I have encountered at their front desk I'm sure business will suffer. I know they will NEVER get mine again because I will NOTpatronize this business EVER again! read more

Should have read the spate of poor reviews before I tried this practice. Made a new patient appointment over the phone and discussed insurance. I should I suspected a problem when I received no appointment confirmation email or text. I took time off work and busy schedule, and traveled to office. While I was in the office filling to the new patient paperwork, I was told the doctor with whom I'd made the appointment didn't, in fact, take my insurance and I would need to reschedule with a different doctor at a future date. This practice obviously doesn't care about wasting someone's time and effort. Too many other options in Manhattan to endure such inexcusable mistreatment. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Nagel at this office for the last 4-5 years or so, and find it to be a reasonable place overall. The scribes, techs, and doctors - in my experience- are more welcoming/pleasant than the front desk, but it's not a huge deal. I always make a phone appointment, which is easy enough - but keep in mind of their hours. They close at 2pm on Friday and are closed Saturdays. I believe there are Sunday hours though. I always end up waiting a while to be seen by the doctor (at least an hour from my appointment time). There was one time a few years ago where I had been waiting over 2 hours - I think they forgot about me - but Dr Nagel took noticed and apologized profusely. Point is- the place can get busy so don't plan on being anywhere within the next few hours. My most recent appointment was last week at 9am on a weekday. I waited about 10 minutes or so and was taken care of by Millie (I hope I got her name right!) and she was fantastic. She was really nice, patient, and calming. She explained everything thoroughly and had an excellent bedside manner. She did a few tests on my eyes and elaborated on whether or not I needed an exam for contacts fitting or new glasses (extra charge not covered by insurance. $75 for glasses and a bit more for contacts). She gave me a few dilating eye drops and sent me back to the waiting room. I saw Dr Nagel at about 1015am. Although she did not spend a long time with me, she was kind, patient, and gave ample opportunity for me to address any concerns I had. All of my appointments with Dr Nagel were positive throughout the years - she always makes me feel comfortable. She has a calming manner and did not make the appointment feel rushed (which is an accomplishment since face time with the doctor was maybe 10 minutes) A note on contacts - I order my contacts through the office. You call the office and there's a secured voicemail where you leave your order, address, credit card info and whether or not you want expedited shipping. At first I was a little apprehensive about leaving my credit card information on a voicemail, but I haven't had any issues. I ask for expedited shipping (additional $25) and my contacts usually show up within 24-48 hours. Super quick!) They also have a selection of designer glasses. The office could be more efficient, but I guess it's fine for my annual appointment. Then again I have not been to any other Opthamologist in the city. read more

Doctors and staff who are hungry for cash and do not want to accept insurance. They do everything to refuse to accept insurance - please, stay away. When I try them to provide my insurance they hang up on me and even after I showed up for my appointment - they canceled without notification and lied that they send an email. I need this information for a medical check. The person I spoke to on the phone ensured me that they will check my insurance and notify me if there were any issues. They called me right before the appointment and said they can not find my insurance. I called back and the person I spoke to hung up on me when I told her that I already provided my email 3 times. When I showed up in person and showed my card - Caprice told me that I should cancel my appointment. They refused to provide medical assistance and said I should file a compline if I have any issues with that. She provided me with the email of Nikoletta R., the practice administrator. Caprice told me that they have no manager I can speak with and the only thing I can do is email Nikoletta R. I did email Nikoletta R., and she never replied back. I also checked with my insurance, and make sure I was covered. My insurance confirmed that I can be covered. When I showed up for my appointment Lili informed me that they canceled my appointment without notification. Lili said that Nikoletta R. told them not to take me. I think it is because they want to be paid cash, and refuse medical services for people who want to be covered by insurance. I asked Lili to speak with the manager again - but she said there are no managers I can speak with. Lili notified me that they were no manager in the hospital I can speak with for 2 days. Lilian also encourage me to file a complaint if I am not happy that they canceled my appointment without notification. In brief, they try to make you pay CASH ONLY, and if you try to check if your insurance will be accepted - they cancel the appointment without notification. People like that should not work in the medical field since they prioritize money over a patient's health. read more

Dr. Nagel herself is a good and caring ophthalmologist who is medically quite skilled, but to arrive at the quick 6-10 minutes tops with her at the end of an appointment, one must endure less than pleasant hoops along the way. And, it is best to spit out ANY questions you have for Dr. Nagel immediately regardless of what she is asking you because you might not get a second chance. Making the appointment on the phone it is likely you will deal with a less than concerned and less than helpful individual who merely wants to get you booked and off the phone even if you have questions about insurance, etc. For that matter, the last time, the individual on the other end said that my insurance was no longer taken, when in fact it was. The desk staff have little sense or concern about friendly customer service. Some can be downright nasty. Then, when it is time for the bulk of the eye examination, that task is in the hands of a "technician" -- a "technician" often of dubious credentials, skills, training or ability. (And as indicated in another review, Dr. Nagel does not recheck this part.) Sometimes you might get lucky and get one that is more competent and friendly, but there is high turnover in this job and the good ones don't seem to stay. My last visit involved a hefty one with a name something like Jacquilyn (name on uniform, did not introduce herself) who could barely put down her soda can long enough to work, waved and shook a card to measure near vision in front of my face at various positions and angles instead of a set placement, and had a nasty condescending attitude to boot. As stated, Dr. Nagel is quite medically competent, but riding the conveyor belt in the office to get to her is not at all pleasant. And when Dr. Nagel is finished with you, you will be dismissed in a pleasant but firm way - possibly assigned to her ubiquitous 'assistant du jour' to escort you back to the less than helpful desk. That assistant will dutifully pass on whatever message Dr. Nagel instructed to desk personnel, but likely it will be met with blank, unknowing and/or uncaring stares. read more

Although Dr Nagel is a very good opthamologist her office staff is lacking and needs better training. I was able to get an emergency appointment on the same day that I called which was wonderful. Her assistant performed some testing prior to the actual visit and then questioned me about a pneumonia vaccine which I thought was inappropriate and had no bearing on the issue at hand. I was then asked to have a seat in the waiting area where I sat for over an hour. Apparently, they forgot about me. Inexcusable! Unfortunately, this overshadoed my entire experience. Patients should not be made to feel like they are part of an assembly line. Having stated my grievances I would still recommend Dr Nagel for her knowledge and care. read more

Eastside Eye Associates is a den of liars, knaves, and con artists. Don't bother checking and double checking, in regards to whether or not they take your insurance, because if they don't, they'll simply lie and say that they do, so they can bill you later. I also agree with another reviewer here, who writes that the technicians do the overwhelming majority of the testing. Indeed, 99.9% of the time you spend at this place, is either in the waiting room, or with youths of dubious education, who rush through the tests as quickly as possible, so they can get on to the next patient, and keep the gravy train moving. read more

I have visited the Eastside Office and seen Dr Nagel. I must say that the office staff is professional and efficent. Dr Nagel, was professional and respectful. I found her answers to my questions understandable. I work in the health insurance industry and have been in doctor's offices many times. I know how tough their jobs are and how much harder they will become in coming years with PPACA. 2 thumbs up form me! read more

Dr Nagel is one of the most thorough and meticulous eye doctors. All of my concerns were addressed and explained in a very clear manner. I was also seen within minutes of my arrival. I would most definitely recommend Dr Nagel. read more
